Translation Thoughts
These are some choices I made when setting up this wiki that I felt like commenting on, either because I'm not totally sure of them or just because others might wonder why I made them.

* Ludvico: Official promo images fairly often spell this "Ludvico", and it's not clear that it's a reference to anything (maybe A Clockwork Orange, but I don't feel comfortable assuming that.)
* Heaven's Measure: "Scales of Heaven" is the more common translation for this and I have defaulted to it in the past.
秤 itself typically means "weighing scales", and 秤目 can mean both "the marks on a ruler" or "the weight of an object, as measured."
I'm not sure whether the word "Scales" was chosen in the looser English-language sense of "something that measures", or with the weight meaning in mind. Regardless, I think "Scales" implies weight measurement in English and "Heaven's Measure" is better on account of not doing that.
* Übersein: This has often been translated as 'Ubersign' but that doesn't mean anything unless it's just mixing German and English. (Not that it's very clear how Übersein's German meaning of "above existence" would relate to what this RS does, but several RS names are enigmatic like that.)

Open questions:

* GEHENA: I usually prefer G.E.H.E.N.A. but I had the thought it makes more sense to go with "GEHENA" like how it's written on their logo. Not sure about this, though.
* "Reserve members" in legions: In Japanese, or at least on the Assault Lily atwiki, these are usually called サブメンバー (submembers) or スーパーサブ (super-subs.) The letter is a sports term, referring to substitute players that are swapped in strategically and not just because a headliner was unable to keep playing (e.g. pinch hitters in baseball.)
Since I'm pretty sure both "headliners" and these terms are taken from sports, I'm considering switching to the English term used in soccer, "substitutes".
Could also just go with "submembers".
* The Way of the World: Is there a better way to translate this? It would be nice to preserve 理's implication of physical laws more strongly.

I may add more here later if I think of anything. Letheka (talk) 05:17, 3 June 2022 (UTC)
Garden Name Translations
Specifically, the part of the Garden name that gets translated as things like School, Academy, etc.

I've been going with what was used on the discord, because the official translations are just weird, but I wonder if there's a better way to handle these that makes the different terms used clearer and more consistent in English without getting super literal for everything... That said, the different terms rarely convey much in terms of actual meaning for the most part, so maybe I'm overthinking the importance of it.

:Decided to go with this for now:
:* Ignore the distinction between 女 and 女子
:* 'Academy' for 学院, 学館 and 学園
:* 'School' for 学校
:* 'Conservatory' for 学薗 (arguably this should be consistent with 学園, but it just sounds weird calling Herensuge this) (also, conservatory can also mean greenhouse and I like that)
:* 'High School' for 高等学校 and 高校, otherwise ignore 高等 and 高
:* Other translations unchanged
:I put these on the standard translation list.
:This results in the following changes-
:* Alchemilla Girls' School → Alchemilla Girls' Academy
:* Ryuto Girls' School → Ryuto Girls' Academy
:* Sagami Girls' Senior High School → Sagami Girls' Academy
:* Sakuranomori Kamakura Prefectural Girls' Institute → Sakuranomori Kamakura Prefectural Girls' High School
:* Sielulintu Girls' School → Sielulintu Girls' Conservatory
:I'm open to discussing this further if anyone has opinions. Letheka (talk) 18:30, 5 July 2022 (UTC)
Hello! Just wanted to say that Special:Statistics appears broken. Perhaps related to the recent upgrade to MW 1.41. Thanks, ~SuperHamster Talk Contribs 09:20, 5 February 2024 (UTC)
