Assault Lily: White Resistance ~The Blade of Truth~
Assault Lily x Ludvico Private Girls Academy vol.5 "White Resistance ~The Blade of Truth~" (アサルトリリィ × 私立ルドビコ女学院vol.5『白きレジスタンス〜真実の刃〜』) is a stage play created by AZONE International and acus in collaboration with the theatre troupe Ludvico Private Girls' Academy. It is the sequel to White Resistance ~The Promise's Path~ and the fourth and final instalment of the stage play series centered around the Garden of Ludvico Private Girls' Academy. The original performance ran from November 29 to December 3, 2019, at the Shinjuku-mura Live Hall in Shinjuku, Tokyo.
The play's revival was originally set to run from September 8 to September 18, 2022, however, due to a postponement, it instead ran from August 19 to August 23, 2023 at the Otemachi Mitsui Hall in Chiyoda, Tokyo, as the ninth volume of the collaboration between Assault Lily and Ludvico Private Girls' Academy. The revival version features several changes to the screenplay such as additional scenes and different dialogue.
The events portrayed in the final act of the play are continued in Assault Lily: The Fateful Gift, and would later be further expanded upon in Assault Lily: The Bond with the White Rose.
Plot[edit | edit source]
Prelude[edit | edit source]
Immediately following the announcement of Kaido Beatrice Chiharu's murder, Izumi Rosa Rina is placed on the national most wanted list, with Ludvico remaining on high alert for her possible reappearance. Some time later, a Gigant-class Huge suddenly appears in Shinjuku, and though the Temple Legion is deployed to neutralize it, they now total only eight members, leaving them unable to perform the Neunwelt Tactic. They are joined by Instructor Makabe Melania Sayoko, who aids them in defeating the Gigant-class by performing the Neunwelt with the Lilies. Legion Ironside also arrives at the battlefield, but as they are short of nine members themselves, they instead take to keeping the surrounding Huge at bay. After the battle, Sayoko advises Ichinomiya Michaela Himari to earnestly consider the current position the Temple Legion is faced with if she wishes to remain their captain.
Prologue[edit | edit source]
Kishimoto Lucia Raimu learns that her Schwester, Fukuyama Jeanne Sachie, has been blacklisted from their usual joint training sessions as punishment for rebelling against the Garden's orders. Raimu, as well as Amamiya Sophia Seren, protest this decision, which causes them to also be removed from the first years' training session, as they also took part in her Legion. Saeki Julia Karen is bothered that Instructors did not acknowledge her in the same way despite also being a member of Ironside, and her training partner, Tachibana Theresia Nagisa, advises her to work hard and become stronger if she wants that to change. Meanwhile, Sache tests a uniquely built Charlemagne, made for her by Seto Veronica Ichika, before being joined by Raimu and Seren, who were brought to her in secret by Instructor Kosaka Anastasia Ryoko, so they can train together as a Legion.
Later that day, Nagisa finds Karen still training by herself, and while admiring her junior’s determination, she tells her that she has trained enough, noting how Karen's CHARM has begun to overheat. Nagisa tells her of what Ichika came to learn from her late Schwester, Nosaka Jacqueline Kazane, of how a Lily should always listen to her CHARM, so they can have a mutually beneficial relationship with each other.
Hojo Monica Asahi watches on as Narumi Clara Yuko and Hanaoka Angela Moe continue to train together. She is approached by Nagisa, and tearfully tells her senior that she now no longer has a spot by Clara's side. Nagisa comforts Asahi, revealing to her how during junior high, she admired Kazane in much the same way, and the reason why she transferred away to Heimskringla was so she could surpass Ichika after Kazane chose her to be her Schwester, just like Asahi had always wished to surpass Clara to earn her approval. Encouraging her to find her own path to walk on from hereafter, Nagisa offers Asahi her Medalha, and the two take the Schwester’s Oath.
Raimu and Seren approach Sano Matilda Kokoro and Haneda Catalina Mei, briefing them on what Sayoko had told them about the fate of Seren’s mother, as well as her information on Professor Kishimoto. Seren requests Kokoro's help with investigating the matter further, in order to ascertain if what she was told was the truth. Kokoro asks Raimu about the whereabouts of her own parents, leading Raimu to suffer a sudden and severe headache when attempting to remember her mother. With Sachie and Kuroki Francisca Yuria’s approval, Kokoro and Mei, together with Matsunaga Brigitta Kayo, set off to look for more information within the Garden, while Raimu decides to return to her family's house with Seren, hoping to find more information in her father’s old room.
Entering one of the Garden’s secret rooms. Kokoro, Mei and Kayo learn that Raimu’s mother did in fact undergo a Boosting procedure while pregnant, but before they can learn any further, they are ambushed by Sayoko, who immediately attacks the Lilies. The Instructor effortlessly overpowers the trio, but as she attempts to lethally strike a wounded Kokoro, she is stopped by Mei, who, determined to protect her Schwester, awakens to the Rare Skill Zenon Paradoxa. Despite this, she is still unable to push back against Sayoko, and the trio are saved by Ryoko, who, after forcing Sayoko to retreat, orders them to stop prying into the Garden’s affairs at once.
First Battle[edit | edit source]
Sayoko meets with Toride Suzanne Reika, who tells her that they’ve been ordered to target the now isolated Raimu and Seren with a Cave. While Sayoko is concerned that Raimu might die in the ensuing battle, Reika does not waver, citing that GEHENA must have a plan in mind. The Cave alarm blares, and all Lilies deploy for combat. Reuniting with Hasegawa Gabriella Tsugumi, Kayo tells her that she no longer wishes to be a part of the Temple Legion after being directly attacked by one of the Garden’s Instructors. Joined by Asahi and Nagisa, Kayo, Tsugumi, Kokoro and Mei move to search for Sachie’s group, who are unable to break through the outpour of Huge in order to reach Seren and Raimu, noticing the oddity of the sheer number of Small and Mid-class Huge they are encountering. They converge with Himari, Clara and Moe, and Sachie asks that they hold the Huge down while Ironside searches for Raimu and Seren.
Meanwhile, Raimu and Seren struggle as they face off against three Large-class Huge at once. They’re joined by Yuria, who goes on to fight two of the Large-classes by herself. However, after Seren is knocked down, Yuria immediately moves to protect her Schwester from an incoming attack, causing her to be heavily injured. Legion Ironside arrives, and together with Kayo's group, they successfully repel the Huge. Holding the injured Yuria in her arms, Sachie tearfully thanks her for protecting Raimu and Seren.
Interlude[edit | edit source]
Reuniting the next day, Karen and Nagase Marta Nonoka lament that they’re now the only ones yet to awaken their Rare Skill, with Karen particularly frustrated for not being useful at all to the other members of Ironside. Not seeing any of her efforts pay off, Karen wonders if it’d be better for her to retire from being a Lily and become an Arsenal instead, but this greatly upsets Tsugumi, as they've always been together as Lilies since junior high. Tsugumi leaves in tears, and Clara tries to persuade Karen to keep on working hard, as even if she does awaken to a powerful Rare Skill, she’ll still need to put in the effort into learning how to properly use it. Saddened, Karen leaves, remarking that no matter how hard she works, she just doesn’t have the talent that her peers do.
Later, Sachie once again thanks Yuria for protecting Raimu and Seren, and Yuria tells her that she noticed the Huge were clearly targeting Seren. Sachie worries that GEHENA have begun to target Seren for their Boosting experiments, and Yuria vows that she'll keep Seren safe, urging Sachie to do the same for Raimu.
Raimu and Seren bring Kokoro and Kayo a notebook they’ve found in Professor Kishimoto’s room, containing a detailed observation journal of the first fourteen years of Raimu’s life, with Kayo noticing that the very last page had been torn out. Seren points out that according to the journal, Professor Kishimoto was only assigned to GEHENA’s Ludvico Labs after her mother had already passed. As such, he couldn’t have been involved in the experiments on unborn fetuses they conducted, and consequently, couldn't have been the one to kill her mother. Further reading into the journal, Kayo finds a passage mentioning that Raimu awakened to her Rare Skill at only 6 years old, and surmises that she must have been triggered by a particularly shocking event for such an unlikely occurrence to happen. Raimu, however, says that she doesn’t remember any of it, only feeling a painful headache whenever she tries to recall it. The group is approached by Ryoko, who tells them she is willing to help their investigation, as she wishes to prove that Rina is innocent.
At Maria’s Hill, Himari laments the turn of events they’ve experienced, as for so long she wished to achieve her ideal fighting style together with Sachie, yet now they’ve gone their separate ways. She is met by Nagisa, who urges her to stop chasing after Sachie and trust the Legion members she still has by her side. Meanwhile, Sachie tells Ichika that she is no longer sure of her decision, seeing how it only served to put Raimu, Seren and all the others in more danger, but Ichika reassures that the members of Ironside were always aware of what they’d be getting into, yet they still chose to place their trust on Sachie nonetheless.
Second Battle[edit | edit source]
The Cave alarm goes off, and as the Temple Legion members are selected, Tsugumi tells Himari she can’t find Kayo, and they set off to search for her. Meanwhile, Ichika rebuffs Karen’s idea of becoming an Arsenal, urging her to keep believing in herself. Karen concedes, but asks Ichika that, if she does eventually awaken her Rare Skill, Ichika becomes her Schwester, to which Ichika agrees. Meanwhile, Kayo, Kokoro, and Mei make their way to Rina’s room, followed by Raimu and Seren, where they once again run into Sayoko. Kokoro, Mei and Kayo are appointed to join the Temple Legion, and Sayoko allows them to leave, but Kayo insists on staying behind as she, Raimu and Seren engage Sayoko in combat.
The Temple Legion and Ironside assemble as yet another Gigant-class appears. Learning of Raimu and Seren’s situation, Himari orders Sachie, Yuria, Tsugumi and Karen to go to their aid, while the remaining Lilies deal with the Gigant-class as a single group. The mixed Legion team begins their Neunwelt Tactic, however, before they’re able to take the finishing shot, they notice a person riding atop the Gigant Huge. As Moe attempts to hand the Magisphere to Himari, she is attacked by the individual, which is revealed to be Ichika’s deceased Schwester Kazane. The undead Lily steals the Magisphere from Moe and fires it towards the Lilies, knocking most of them out and engulfing the battlefield in flames.
Realizing that Kazane suffered the same fate as Kishimoto Maria Mirai, Ichika tells Himari and the others to chase after the now fleeing Gigant-class, as this is a score she must settle herself. Nagisa joins her, citing how she has her own feelings towards Kazane to resolve, and the pair engage the undead Lily while the others set off in pursuit of the Gigant-class. Meanwhile, Sayoko interrogates Seren on the information they’ve discovered in Professor Kishimoto’s journal, but she is interrupted by the sudden reappearance of Rina. The now former Instructor tells Kayo, Raimu and Seren to leave as she fends off Sayoko by herself. The trio reunites with Sachie’s group just before watching the Gigant-class fleeing. Sensing something is amiss, they begin to make their way back to Himari and the others.
Rina continues to battle Sayoko, who reveals herself to be a Boosted Lily. Unable to gain the upper hand, Rina stops herself from chasing Sayoko as she leaves, hearing a student in need of help. Sachie and her team reunite with Himari, who tells them of Kazane’s reappearance, leaving Sachie in shock. The two Legions resume their standoff against the Gigant-class Huge, while Kokoro returns to the Garden campus in order to retrieve another Neunwelt Bullet.
During the ensuing battle, Karen is knocked down despite her efforts to fight properly. Saddened, she berates herself for her uselessness, regretting her stubborn desire to fight alongside the others instead of simply giving up, and apologizes for being a disappointment to everyone. Suddenly, Karen sees a vision of Kazane, who tells her to keep carrying on, as she is the Lily that Ichika chose. Determined to return to Ichika’s side, Karen raises her CHARM once again, awakening to the Rare Skill Regista and earning the Lilies the upper hand. Kokoro returns with the bullet, and the two Legions begin a joint Neunwelt with their still capable members. After making their passes, Himari tells Asahi and Karen to find Ichika and Nagisa.
Further away, Ichika struggles to push back against Kazane, not able to bring herself to hurt her former Schwester. Ichika steels her resolve, removing the Medalha she exchanged with Kazane and throwing it on the ground. As Kazane possesses a Magie Reflector, Ichika surmises that the only way to take Kazane down is to aim directly at her heart. Their battle continues, and Kazane briefly hesitates after glimpsing at Ichika’s discarded Medalha. Taking the opportunity, Ichika disarms Kazane and holds her in place, urging Nagisa to quickly finish her off. Nagisa takes the shot, and in her final moments, Kazane regains her consciousness, returning Ichika’s Medalha to her neck one last time before dying in her Schwester’s arms.
Ichika is enraged by the desecration Kazane was subjected to, and vows to find whoever was responsible for it. However, she is promptly shot down by Sayoko in retaliation for Kazane’s defeat. Ryoko comes to their aid, and the two Instructors leave the scene locked in combat. Arriving at the scene, Karen tells the barely conscious Ichika of how she awakened her Rare Skill, reminding her of the promise they made. Ichika gives Karen her Medalha, but her consciousness gives out before she can receive Karen's. On Nagisa’s request, Karen adorns the seemingly lifeless Ichika’s neck with her Medalha, telling her that it is "her greatest pride" to have become her Schwester.
Meanwhile, Raimu receives the Neunwelt’s final pass, but the Gigant-class suddenly flees before she can take the shot. Reika and Sayoko make their appearance, revealing that they intended to drain all Lilies but Raimu of their Magie. Reika demands that Seren hands over the final page of Professor Kishimoto’s journal, which Rina retrieved from Mirai's possessions and secretly delivered to her during their earlier encounter. Suddenly, an explosion takes place at the Ludvico campus, with multiple Caves immediately forming around it. Concluding that the protective barrier surrounding the Garden must’ve been disabled, all of Temple Legion except Himari and Nagisa leave in order to protect the other Lilies in the Garden, with Takatori Natalie Towa and Li Christina Susu following soon after.
Sayoko and Reika reveal that the one responsible for the research of Huge cells on unborn fetuses was actually Seren’s father, Professor Amamiya, and that because her mother refused to let him use their own child for his research, he used Raimu’s mother instead. Enraged, Seren attempts to attack Reika, but is quickly overpowered. As Seren is about to be killed, Raimu unleashes her Rare Skill, Charisma, revitalizing her teammates' Magie. Reika presumes that if she witness Seren, her childhood friend, die before her eyes, the trauma will make Raimu’s power grow even further.
The Lilies fight back against Sayoko and Reika's advances, but the Instructors continue to have the upper hand. Rina joins her students' battle, and Ryoko comes to her aid soon after. However, to Rina’s shock and dismay, Ryoko brutally kills both Sayoko and Reika. Standing guard, Rina deduces that the person in front of her is no longer the Ryoko she knew, but instead the consciousness of Professor Amamiya possessing her body, who was the one truly responsible for murdering Chiharu. Revealing their true identity, Ryoko viciously knocks Rina down before turning to Raimu, telling her that not only she was born a Boosted Lily due to the experiments conducted on her mother, but the reason she awakened to her Rare Skill at such a young age was because she watched her mother be murdered right in front of her.
Ryoko further explains that, in order to continue his observations of Raimu, Professor Amamiya fused his consciousness with her own, and arranged for Raimu to be enrolled into Ludvico. She tells the Lilies that the only way to permanently return peace to the world is to achieve a level of power that surpasses all Huge and enables mankind to rule over them, even if doing so requires human sacrifice. Ryoko resumes attacking the Lilies, eager to see how Raimu would react to watching her loved ones die once again. Raimu's powers continue to increase as the Lilies are easily overpowered by Ryoko, who underwent a special Boosting procedure that grants her a near limitless output of Magie.
The Lilies are suddenly surrounded by countless Huge, including a Gigant-class, who were attracted by Kyoko’s ever increasing Magie. Rina tells Raimu that, as she was born with Huge cells in her body, she is seen by the Huge as one of their own, which should allow her to form a sympathetic bond with the Huge around them. Rina urges Raimu to keep her focus on the Huge, and particularly, the Gigant-class. Ryoko concludes that this is the secret that Professor Kishimoto sought to hide, as once her Charisma evolves into Laplace, it should allow for her to take complete control of the Huge, something still currently out of GEHENA’s abilities.
Raimu focuses her mind on the Gigant-class, causing the other Huge to gather around it. Ryoko points out how despite constantly attracting the Huge’s presence, Raimu was never once directly attacked by them. As the Lilies continue to be overpowered by the Instructor, she is suddenly attacked by the Gigant-class, seemingly by Raimu’s suggestion. Seren attempts to hold Kyoko in place so that she can be hit by the Huge, but the Instructor easily shakes her off, fatally wounding the Lily. Giving Raimu and Yuria her final words, Seren uses the last of her strength to attack the Gigant-class, prompting it to retaliate right as she and Yuria rush to pin Ryoko down once again, taking all three of them out. Raimu lays down her CHARM and rushes to Seren’s side, while Sachie takes the Magisphere and finally destroys the Gigant-class.
In spite of Seren’s attempt, however, Ryoko stands up once again, still able to fend off the Lilies even after all the injuries she suffered. Furious, Raimu takes up her CHARM once more and takes to fighting Ryoko by herself, determined to "put an end to everything". She is stopped by Sachie, however, who takes it upon herself to land the finishing blow on Ryoko. As Professor Amamiya’s consciousness is purged from her body, what remained of the true Ryoko reaches her hand out to Rina one final time before her life fades away.
Epilogue[edit | edit source]
Still unconscious, Ichika has a vision of Kazane, who reveals to her that she had always been afraid of leaving Ichika by herself, but now she can finally rest easy, as Ichika is not alone anymore. As a final request, Kazane asks Ichika not to come to her side just yet, saying goodbye to her Schwester for the last time. As Ichika awakens, Karen immediately rushes to her side, and the two tearfully share an embrace. In the aftermath of the battle, Sachie, while glad that she spared Raimu of such a burden, is still in shock from having taken someone's life. She is comforted by Himari, who assures her that she made the right decision. With the death of the Instructors and all the damage caused by the Huge, Ludvico has virtually shut down, as such, the Temple Legion no longer exists in any official capacity, but Himari is unbothered, as she still has her friends by her side. Sachie encourages her to continue carrying on the Temple Legion’s mantle, and one last time, calls Himari her "captain".
At Maria’s Hill, Rina prays for Ryoko’s soul, lamenting that she wasn’t able to save her old friend, and telling her that she vows to protect Ludvico going forward. Sachie finds Raimu, who tells her that she no longer has any will to fight, remarking how her mother, Mirai, and now Seren are gone because of her. She reveals to Sachie that she hoped to die during the previous battle, not wishing for any of it to go on any further. Sachie asks Raimu if she truly just wanted to run away from everything, and let all the sacrifices made for her sake be in vain. Yuria approaches the pair, echoing the question to Raimu, and asking her who else, if not her, can bring her father and Mirai’s dreams to reality.
Encouraged by the pair’s words, Raimu steels her resolve and decides to keep on fighting. Relieved, Yuria calls out to Seren, revealing herself to be alive, much to Raimu's joy. Raimu offers her sister one more prayer, promising her that they will return peace to the world, just as she once dreamed of.
Differences from the original play[edit | edit source]
Though the revival introduces several changes to the play's structure and dialogue, listed below are some of the most notable differences:
- In the original, after Sachie is removed from the joint training session, Towa and Susu discuss if the Garden is attempting to break her will. This scene is absent in the revival.
- A selection of scenes were removed from the revival:
- A scene where Nagisa and Ichika discuss Karen’s situation is cut.
- A scene where Reika interrogates Ryoko on whether she is hiding something from them is cut.
- A scene showing Nonoka mourning Ryoko’s death is cut.
- In the original, the other Lilies are implied to have been killed before Karen awakens to her Rare Skill. This does not happen in the revival, where Karen is simply shown standing still, as the Lilies continue to fight around her.
- In the original, Rina is the one to knock out Sayoko, who stumbles out of the stage, leaving it unclear whether she was killed or not. As such, she is shown to be aware of Ryoko’s true identity from the start.
- The final battle underwent a few major changes. In the original, Seren does not attack the Gigant-class to goad it into retaliating, instead, it begins attacking by itself after Raimu sees Seren about to be killed. Raimu then finishes off the Gigant-class herself, and is stopped by Sachie before she can kill Ryoko, who dies due to the overflow of Magie from her body causing her to explode.
- In the original, Himari simply states that she’ll create a “new” Legion, while the revival specifies that she wishes to rebuild the Temple Legion. Furthermore, the remaining Temple Legion members are shown expressing their desire to remain under Himari’s leadership.
- Kayo is shown joining Ironside at the end of the original play, this doesn’t happen in the revival, but she is still shown in later installments to have joined Ironside, together with Tsugumi.
- In the original, Sachie is much more stern towards Raimu after she says she no longer wishes to fight, going as far as to hit her in the face. In the revival, her tone is much more gentle and understanding.

Production[edit | edit source]
The original draft was created by Obanazawa Ken'ei (尾花沢軒栄), who was responsible for the worldbuilding and adapting the Ludvico setting for the Assault Lily universe, while Sakuragi Sayaka (桜木さやか), the Director of the Ludvico Private Girls' Academy troupe, was responsible for the screenplay. For the rerun, Sakuragi Sayaka was joined by Hayashi Shuji (林修司) in directing, with Sakuragi still responsible for the screenplay. Tani Naoki (谷ナオキ) composed the main theme, "The Blade of Truth", and was also in charge of the music direction.
Trivia[edit | edit source]
- The opening sequence shows a brief reenactment of the events of White Resistance ~The Promise’s Path~. During the fight between Sachie and Seren, it is shown that Seren attempted to strike Raimu directly before stopping herself. This did not happen in The Promise’s Path, where Seren, though initially pointing her CHARM at Raimu, simply attacks aimlessly before being stopped by Sachie.
- In the previous plays, Raimu holds her Asterion somewhat awkwardly as a show of her inexperience. During her final confrontation against Ryoko, however, she holds her Asterion with the correct grip for the first time.
