Boosted Lily

From Assault Lily Wiki
A Boosted Lily, Shiba Tomoshibi, shortly after her escape from the GEHENA lab at Kuramayama

Boosted Lilies (ブーステッドリリィ), also known as Enhanced Lilies (強化リリィ), are Lilies that have had Huge cells implanted into their bodies by GEHENA, granting them special Boosted Skills that Lilies do not naturally have, as well as enhancing their Magi capacity and causing it to deteriorate more slowly[1].

The various branches of GEHENA may do this to make the Lily stronger, purely as an experiment, or to save her life if she is mortally wounded. At some Gardens which are allied with or neutral towards GEHENA, such as Ambrosia and Kuramayama, Lilies who volunteer to be boosted are held in high esteem[2]. However, it is common that Lilies are boosted without their consent.

Boosted Lilies may not always be aware that they're boosted, if the procedure happened while they were unconscious, too young to form memories[3], or if their memories were tampered with[4]. GEHENA seems to engage in this kind of subterfuge infrequently, and the majority of known Boosted Lilies are aware of their own nature.

Boosting leads to a direct rise in a Lily's Skiller Value[5]. At some GEHENA-allied Gardens like Irma, it is a choice offered to girls who want to enroll but are not capable of being Lilies[6].

Side Effects[edit | edit source]

The boosting process has severe side effects. Lilies who are boosted to an excessive degree, or who were unable to mentally endure the strain of it, can be driven into a state called "lunacy" in which they attack other life forms indiscriminately, similar to how the Huge do[7]. Lilies who have gone into lunacy can sometimes be temporarily returned to their right mind by being exhausted in battle or confronted by someone they felt strong affection for[3], but there is no indication that lunacy is permanently curable, and GEHENA is known to dispose of most Lilies who enter it[7].

Additionally, the bodies of some Lilies may reject the Huge cells, which places their lives at risk. Should this occur, the boosting process can be reversed or partially reversed to stabilize the Lily, but only during a short period after it is performed[8].

Even outside these extreme consequences, the physical and mental side effects are unpleasant enough that many Lilies profoundly regret having been boosted. One example is Takamatsu Shiera, chairwoman of Yurigaoka and a Boosted Lily herself, who made it Yurigaoka's policy to oppose GEHENA because of her wish that "no one should have to go through what I did"[9]. Ando Tazusa has been mentioned as experiencing headaches, nausea, and paranoia due to having been boosted[10].

One relatively benign side effect is that Boosted Lilies will sometimes develop heterochromia iridum[11] as a result of the procedure. However, this doesn't happen to every Boosted Lily.

Resurrection[edit | edit source]

It is possible to boost Lilies who are already dead and to resurrect them by doing this. This normally drives them into an immediate state of lunacy, with only a few known exceptions.

In Lost Memories, it's revealed that Gozen was resurrected as a Boosted Lily after her death.

In Shieldmaiden in Flames (main story chapter 3, part 8), Aizawa Kazuha was revealed to have been made from the body of an unknown Madec who died at the Tragedy of Hinode. She had another Lily's memories and Rare Skill implanted into her, and was simultaneously boosted.

Princesses of the Huge[edit | edit source]

A few Boosted Lilies have been referred to as "Princesses of the Huge" (ヒュージの姫). The fundamental definition is that "the Princesses of the Huge are those who, despite being human, can compel the Huge to obey them," according to an unknown individual at Herensuge who was involved in the experiment that created Sasaki Ran[12]. The term does not seem to be commonly known, even among Lily otaku; Futagawa Fumi mentioned at one point that she had never heard of them[13].

Some of the Princesses of the Huge also have unusual characteristics that are not considered to be Rare Skills or Boosted Skills. These include that they are often mistaken by the Huge as fellow Huge and are never attacked by them, can sense the presence of nearby Huge, and have a strange reaction to being near other Boosted Lilies of their type that mutually increases their power[14].

Several Princesses of the Huge are the result of experiments where unborn girls were boosted while still in their mothers' wombs, but according to Shiba Tomoshibi, it is possible to be made into a Princess of the Huge even following one's birth[13].

Known Princesses of the Huge are:
