First Defense of Oiso
The First Defense of Oiso was a battle that took place in 2051. It is considered by most people to have been the beginning of the Great Huge Onslaught[1].
It was the final battle that the first-generation Álfheimr fought in before disbanding.
Battle[edit | edit source]
In what was very nearly a surprise attack, over ten gigant-types appeared on the coast of Kamakura Prefecture, and Yurigaoka had to engage the enemy before the local civilians had finished evacuating. The first-generation Álfheimr was ordered to make an emergency sortie to defend Oiso, a town located near the Nest which the Huge had come from.
Before departing Yurigaoka, Hasebe Touka asked her friend Mashima Moyu to use an experimental 4th generation CHARM, arguing that she had managed to use Aspid-Zmey without trouble. Moyu at first refused, explaining that simulations had predicted that if a Lily were to fight with the Einherjar, it would cause mental side effects and contaminate their psyche.
Touka continued to beg Moyu, saying that there was no other way for her to help her friend Takegoshi Chihana other than by fighting harder, and Moyu reluctantly allowed her to take the Einherjar. Unfortunately, the unfinished fourth-generation CHARM was more than Touka's body could endure. She engaged a gigant-type in battle and killed it with a finish shot, but then she collapsed, in a vegetative state. She was taken to Yurigaoka's infirmary, where she remained unresponsive for a long time.
After that, the other Lilies of the first-generation Álfheimr killed the Huge and destroyed the Caves that had appeared in Oiso. But their victory had been far from certain, and in order to turn the tide of the battle, Chihana—the captain of the legion—had unleashed the buster cannon of her Gram in an area that civilians were still in the midst of evacuating from. As a result of this, several of those civilians died before reaching safety[2].
Aftermath[edit | edit source]
Chihana, facing the accusation of "having used the Gram's high-power cannon in an urban area," was put in confinement. In addition, Yurigaoka hadn't given Touka permission to use a fourth-generation CHARM, and Chihana was held partly responsible for what she'd done. She was confined to Yurigaoka and banned from being the captain of a legion ever again.
While Álfheimr was not forced to disband, its members were ordered to choose a new captain other than Chihana. They had already been planning to dissolve the legion themselves, so after discussing the matter, they did so.
Later, Tachihara Sayu established a new legion by the name of Legion Lohengrin for her Schutzengel to be in, as Chihana was no longer allowed to create her own legion[2]. Soon after this, Touka made a full recovery, but she chose to join Legion Sanngriðr instead of Lohengrin.
