Hasebe Touka

Hasebe Touka (長谷部冬佳) is a Lily who attends Yurigaoka Girls' Academy. She is a member of Legion Sanngriðr. Her Schild is Luise Ingels.

Previously, Touka held the position of right BZ in the first-generation Álfheimr, although with her ability she could cover just any position needed.

She has 7 sub-skills, which is the largest number of sub-skills among any currently active Lily[6][7]. This gives her the flexibility to act in every position and has earned her acknowledgement as the world's best balancer[8].

Hasebe Touka is a homegrown Yurigaoka Lily. She is childhood friends with Takegoshi Chihana, and was her partner as a member of the first-generation Álfheimr. But as time passed, she developed a growing complex towards the other members of Álfheimr, especially because she didn't score finish shots as much as the others. Her lack of confidence, and habit of comparing herself to Sakaizawa Naru who also specialized in the right side BZ position, grew into feelings of envy[9].

The Odaiba Counteroffensive[edit | edit source]

Touka, along with Kondo Misaka, took part in the Odaiba Counteroffensive as part of the Second Division. When Misaka fought her death-defying duel to hold back the Huge on Nozomi Bridge, Touka rushed to her aid as fast as she could, and after the battle, she shed tears of relief that Misaka hadn't been seriously hurt.

The high-pressure tactics and potent support ability that Touka displayed while among the Second Division played a major part in the Lilies' eventual victory[9].

The First Defense of Oiso[edit | edit source]

At the beginning of the First Defense of Oiso, Touka asked her friend Mashima Moyu to use an experimental 4th generation CHARM, arguing that she had managed to use Aspid-Zmey without trouble. Moyu at first refused, explaining that simulations had predicted that if a Lily were to fight with the Einherjar, it would cause mental side effects and contaminate their psyche.

Touka continued to beg Moyu, saying that there was no other way for her to help Chihana other than fighting harder, and Moyu reluctantly allowed her to take the Einherjar. Unfortunately, the unfinished fourth-generation CHARM was more than Touka's body could endure. She engaged a gigant-type in battle and killed it with a finish shot, but then she collapsed, in a vegetative state. She was taken to Yurigaoka's infirmary, where she remained unresponsive for a long time.

Later, as the captain of Álfheimr, Chihana was blamed for Touka's use of an experimental CHARM without permission from the Garden and punished for it[9].

Touka's Recovery[edit | edit source]

Throughout the time Touka was unresponsive, Luise Ingels visited her every day, together with Misaka. After Touka woke up again, several months later, she quickly asked Luise to take the Schutzengel's Oath and be her Schild.

Touka discovered that the legion she had been a member of, Legion Álfheimr, had disbanded. The former captain of Álfheimr and Touka's dearest friend, Takegoshi Chihana, had entered a new legion by the name of Legion Lohengrin.

But then, Touka found out that the position in which she was most talented—the right-side BZ—in Legion Lohengrin was already occupied by a Lily she had long had an inferiority complex to, Sakaizawa Naru. Heartbroken, she refused to join Lohengrin even when Chihana visited her and invited her to the legion personally.

Misaka visited Touka afterwards to try and comfort her. "Ever since we fought side by side at the Odaiba Counteroffensive, I wanted to stay with you, forever," she said. "I know you're all alone right now... Maybe you could help me fix that? As a Lily, and as a person, I love you, Touka."

Upon hearing this, Touka burst into tears, and Misaka took Touka into her arms. "You are always, always in my heart, Touka," she told Touka. "I swear it on my blade."

Misaka and Touka then took the Roommate's Oath together, and Touka joined Misaka's legion, Legion Sanngriðr[9].

Combat Style[edit | edit source]

Touka is widely considered to be the world's best balancer, due to her ability to reposition herself in the ideal place down to the centimeter in order to provide optimal support. She's equally skilled when fighting in the AZ, the TZ and the BZ alike. Her Rare Skill isn't all that powerful due to her many subskills, but she can support her legion in all sorts of ways, and always does the right thing to bolster them in every phase of combat[9].

When Touka joined Sanngriðr, she introduced the use of the variable formation pioneered by the 1st Álfheimr, allowing the legion to take advantage of Imagawa Homare's offensive ability[10].

Trivia[edit | edit source]

  • Touka is rumored to be easily jealous, especially when seeing someone else talking to the people she held dear[11].
    • Although this could also be from people who are jealous of her[12].
    • In case when she actually gets jealous, she gets to a very negative mood[13] and it's usually the duty of Luise (her Schild) or Misaka (her roommate) to get her back up[14].
  • Touka has many hobbies and interests:
  • On Valentine's Day, Touka received chocolate even from outside the Garden[17].
  • Her Schutzengel's Oath with Luise is initiated from her side[18]
  • It was formerly believed that Touka's cameo in Assault Lily: Bouquet was proof that that the Einherjar experiment never happened in the anime/game continuity, but only in Assault Lily ARMS, where the experiment and Touka's vegetative state were first mentioned. However, Assault Lily Magazine Vol. 4 later revealed that some time following the experiment and after the events of ARMS, Touka made a full recovery.
  • Touka's ability to contain 7 sub-skills is believed to make her a singular Lily.
