Kamakura, Japan
Kamakura (鎌倉府) is a prefecture of Japan, located directly south of Tokyo. Around the time when Japan first began to train Lilies, the government established several new prefectures, including Kamakura Prefecture[1]. Its boundaries appear to correspond to those of the real-world Kanagawa Prefecture for the most part, except that it has been implied that Izu Oshima (formerly part of Tokyo) and possibly the rest of the Izu Islands are now part of Kamakura Prefecture[2].
Kamakura is the main locale of many Assault Lily stories, particularly those which take place at or nearby Yurigaoka Girls' Academy.
Gardens[edit | edit source]
The prefecture's most powerful and prestigious Gardens are known as the Kamakura Big Five, and are:
- Sagami Girls' Academy in Sagamihara
- Sakuranomori Kamakura Prefectural Girls' High School in Kamakura City
- Sielulintu Girls' Conservatory in Yokohama
- St. Mercurius International School in Yokosuka
- Yurigaoka Girls' Academy in Kamakura City[3]
Alchemilla Girls' Academy was formerly one of the Kamakura Big Five, but lost its place after many of its Lilies died in the fall of Shizuoka[4]. It was replaced by Sagami, which was considered a substandard Garden until recent years[5].
Other Gardens and former Gardens in Kamakura are:
- Jogashima Girls' High School of Technology
- Zushi International Girls' High School (destroyed in 2051)
In addition to these, Kamakura has several support Gardens[6], such as Enoshima Maritime Girls' School[7][8].
Trivia[edit | edit source]
- Kamakura is a 府 (fu), which is conventionally translated as 'prefecture' but is distinct from the more common term for Japanese prefectures, 県 (ken). 府 originally meant "tax warehouse" and now refers to a particularly important urban area; only two of Japan's 47 prefectures, Osaka and Kyoto, are known as 府. Originally, these special prefectures were governed under different laws, but this stopped in the mid-20th century.
- Kanagawa Prefecture (神奈川県), like most Japanese prefectures, is a mere ken.
