Magi
Magi, sometimes also known as magic power, is a mysterious form of energy used by both Lilies and the Huge.
Only people capable of being Lilies can see Magi; it is invisible to all other humans[1]. When present in large quantities, it appears to these people as floating motes of glowing blue light, or sometimes as a blue glow surrounding people and things charged with Magi.
By using CHARMs, Lilies can convert Magi into Magi Crystal Force, which they can use to create defensive barriers or attack the Huge[2].
Negative Magi[edit | edit source]
The Huge also use Magi as their life energy. Their Magi has a different polarity than that which is usable by Lilies, and is called negative Magi (or "Minus Magi".) It sometimes (but not always) appears red or purple in color, in contrast to the blue of positive (or "Plus") Magi.
Negative Magi contaminates humans and Lilies who absorb it and, if it builds up sufficiently, causes them to suffer pain and become mentally unstable. Eventually, their sanity can slip away entirely[3]. Certain Rare Skills can purify negative Magi; others generate it within the user's body and are dangerous to use. Negative Magi also builds up naturally in Lilies' bodies as they expend their own Magi[4].
In the absence of Rare Skills able to purify it, one of the easiest ways for a Lily to control a buildup of negative Magi is to touch another Lily, whose own Magi will neutralize it. This is called Magi Sympathetic Exchange (マギ交感), and the most common method is to hold hands[5]. According to Futagawa Fumi, this is one of the reasons many Gardens have a tradition of oaths of sisterhood.
Crystalline Magi[edit | edit source]
In the vicinity of Nests, Magi will sometimes crystallize into a solid substance that resembles ice. Unlike ice, however, crystalline Magi is not cold[6].
