Nagasaka Maho
Nagasaka Maho (長坂稀星) is a Lily who attends Yurigaoka Girls' Academy. She is a reserve member of Legion Sanngriðr.
Personality[edit | edit source]
History[edit | edit source]
Maho's parents were killed by the Huge when she was still young, and she was captured by GEHENA and grew up in one of their "Tokyo Island Labs", where she became one of a single-digit number of Boosted Lilies worldwide to have been successfully given the Ether Body Boosted Skill.
When Maho reached the age at which she would have been just starting her 6th year of elementary school, she was rescued from the GEHENA lab by Yurigaoka. Rumor has it that she may have been personally rescued by Takamatsu Shiera, due to Shiera's abhorrence of Ether Body experiments, which are said to be close to being outright torture for their human subjects. The pain that Maho was in as a result of the experiments done to her was such that she wasn't able to live a normal life, so Yurigaoka moved her into the special dormitory.
Meeting Toa[edit | edit source]
Kitagawara Inori, who would later establish Legion Rossweisse, was the type who could never just leave her fellow Boosted Lilies to suffer on their own. She tried to approach Maho in order to offer her help, but at that point in time, Maho wasn't able to trust anyone else because of what she was going through. She refused to talk to Inori at all. Even so, Inori didn't give up on her.
Inori tried asking for help from Tetsukawa Toa. Inori and Toa were both involved with the disciplinary committee of the Yurigaoka elementary school, but this was the first time Inori had asked her for a personal favor. Toa agreed for a fairly impure reason: she had a crush on Rosalinde Friedegunde von Otto, who lived in the special dormitory, and she thought "This is my chance to visit the special dormitory and ask Rosa-sama to have tea with me!"
But when she saw Maho with tears streaming uncontrollably down her face, screaming in pain from the side effects of the experiments she'd been subjected to, Toa forgot entirely about her original shallow motive and started doing everything she could to ease Maho's suffering. With Toa's help, the suffering that Maho was in slowly started to lessen.
Homare's Training Club[edit | edit source]
In the GEHENA lab, where Maho had spent most of her life, she'd been forced to do grueling combat drills as part of the experiments she'd undergone. She was terrified of combat training, which she thought at Yurigaoka would be just like it had been at GEHENA, and what it would demand from her body and mind alike. Even so, when Toa asked Maho "Why don't you come and train with me?", Maho accepted her invitation because she felt indebted to Toa.
When Maho went to Imagawa Homare's training club with Toa, she found that it wasn't really that harsh at all. While the techniques they focused on were the opposite of elementary, the training club had a casual feel where everyone just worked on the aspects of their CHARM handling they personally wanted to improve. Homare had created a special course of training, which was halfway to being a game, and it lead to a friendly and playful atmosphere.
Maho started to make friends with the others in the training club, and Toa was happy to see her starting to open up to other people. The two of them were quite close by now, and as they were about to enter high school, Maho asked Toa if she wanted to take the Roommate's Oath together. Toa immediately agreed.
Toa's Melancholy[edit | edit source]
Sadly, tragedy struck for Toa soon after that, when Zushi International Girls' High School was destroyed by the Huge and Toa's blood sister, Tetsukawa Kiyo, died in battle. Hearing of her sister's death sent Toa into a deep state of melancholy, and she was sent to the special dormitory, where she scarcely budged from her room. Maho visited Toa in the special dormitory every day, and talked to her about their interests and things that had happened to her in class, trying to remind her of what life had been like before her sister's death.
At this time, the Great Huge Onslaught was taking place, and Maho often had to respond to attacks. But she never talked to Toa about the fighting. It didn't matter to Maho whether Toa could fight as a Lily once more; she just wanted her to be happy again. Maho would have enjoyed being able to fight together with Toa, but she never asked Toa to fight together with her. She didn't want to make Toa feel like she had to fight.
Thanks to the many Lilies who encouraged her, Toa at last began to feel that she could wield "the blade her sister had entrusted to her"—the Shock Blade. She told this to Maho first of all. When she did, Maho burst into tears of joy at the fact that Toa was finally feeling better.
Joining Sanngriðr[edit | edit source]
After that, Toa asked Maho, "Why don't we both fight together with Sanngriðr?" Maho had already had the thought that she wanted to fight alongside all the friends in Sanngriðr she'd made in the training club, so she eagerly agreed.
Even though they were still in junior high school, Toa and Maho asked if they could join Sanngriðr, and the legion invited them to take part in their Neunwelt practice. At the time, there were still some members of Legion Ginnungagap filling spots in Sanngriðr, but Toa and Maho were still amazed by how good the legion was.
Toa and Maho knew how skilled Homare, Kondo Misaka and Seike Tomoyo were in solo battles from the dueling practice they'd taken part in together, but when fighting together as a group, they brought that individuality of theirs to elevate the training to a sky-high level. The two roommates had studied at Yurigaoka all their lives, and had a firm grasp of its guided action protocols, but the level of coordination that Sanngriðr demanded of its members far above that.
This was when Maho took an interest in Kiko Totori, who directed the Neunwelt practice sessions. Totori normally tried to keep the legion orderly, but Maho found herself captivated by the unusual, innovative passes that Totori sometimes made—as if she'd been directed by Phantasm to do them, which she hadn't—and the finishing shots she fired from mid-range[1].
Combat Style[edit | edit source]
Maho has an extremely aggressive fighting style which overwhelms her foes with sheer power and speed. The impressive way in which she'll rush up from the side and hit the enemy hard has won her a certain number of fans. Lilies from the Dueling Generation particularly respect how she doesn't need to resort to any clever tricks to be a force to be reckoned with on the battlefield.
During the Neunwelt Tactic, Maho starts in the TZ, but her true value shows itself when she charges forward to the AZ. She doesn't completely neglect defense, but she'll often go so far into the AZ that she can't get back into formation in time, and when this happens, Totori doesn't let her forget it[1].
