Neunwelt Tactic

The Neunwelt Tactic (Neunwelt is German for Nine Worlds[1]), commonly known as just a Neunwelt for short, is a combination attack where several Lilies pass a special bullet between their CHARMs and infuse it with energy to create a Magisphere. The final Lily fires the Magisphere at their target, causing a powerful explosion capable of instantly destroying most Huge caught in it.

The optimal number of Lilies for the Neunwelt Tactic is nine; this strikes the ideal balance between the power of the final attack and the difficulty of performing it. The Lilies must be well-coordinated with one another, so usually a Neunwelt is performed by a single legion with experience fighting together.

Because another way to boost the power of the Magisphere is to pass it close to a powerful specimen of the Huge, it's sometimes still possible to perform a strong Neunwelt while short a Lily or two.

Alternately, if a legion doesn't anticipate encountering particularly strong enemies, they can use the Neunwelt Tactic with as few as five Lilies to destroy lesser ones (such as Large-types.) This is common in Tokyo, Japan and other well-defended regions. These are more properly known as Fünfwelts and Siebenwelts and the like, but "Neunwelt" is a general term for all variations of the attack[1].

It is possible to do a Neunwelt with more than nine Lilies. This is often necessary to be certain it will destroy an Ultra-type, with one example being at the end of the Odaiba Counteroffensive, where 23 Lilies did the final Neunwelt to take down the Nestless Ultra. Doing a Neunwelt with more than nine Lilies is challenging, as with every further Lily who charges it, the Magisphere becomes harder to control, and passing and even holding onto it is increasingly difficult[2]. For unclear reasons, Laplace and its subskill Charisma make oversized Neunwelts easier for Lilies to do[3].

Special-type Huge can sometimes withstand a full-strength Neunwelt, often by using Magi-Reflector[4], but occasionally by absorbing or destroying the Magisphere. The most common countermeasure to this is to launch multiple Neunwelts in rapid succession, but this requires multiple legions, and Neunwelts are highly taxing on Lilies to perform. Any Huge capable of surviving a Neunwelt is thus an extreme threat.

It's hard to receive passes, and when you're holding onto it, it will fight to get free and it's hard to keep it where it is. Then when you need to pass it again, you need to give it a really good push with magie or it won't go where you intended it to." Translation by Letheka.
