Shirai Yuyu
Shirai Yuyu (白井夢結) is a Lily who attends Yurigaoka Girls' Academy. She is the vice-captain of Team Hitotsuyanagi. Her Schild is Hitotsuyanagi Riri.
Personality[edit | edit source]
In the past, Yuyu is shown to be cheerful and optimistic girl. However, the events of the Koshu Evacuation, with the deaths of her Schutzengel and her sister, have turned Yuyu into a cold and distant person unwilling to become close friends with anyone.
Yuyu, in reality, is a very emotional person who is grieving over the loss of her loved ones. She is burdened with a guilt complex, blaming herself for everything and having the constant worry that she will lose everyone again. This causes her to feel the need to shoulder the burden herself, but through the efforts of her Schild Hitotsuyanagi Riri and the rest of Team Hitotsuyanagi, she regains her ability to trust her friends and learns to rely on them.
Yuyu has trouble waking up in the morning.[3]

Yuyu met Yoshimura Thi Mai during junior high school and, after a short period of initial dislike, became a friendly rival of hers with respect for her skill and conviction.[4] At this time, she used a Dainsleif as her CHARM and was a member of the reserve team that later became Legion Álfheimr.
Yuyu's Schutzengel was Kawazoe Misuzu, who was killed in unclear circumstances during the Koshu Evacuation while fighting together with Yuyu. Filled with regret, Yuyu continued to fight, supported by Mai and her other friends from the time of the Koshu Evacuation. Legion Álfheimr eventually disbanded following the Odaiba Counteroffensive; according to Futagawa Fumi[5], Yuyu's state of mind at the time was one of the many reasons for their dissolution.
This, unfortunately, only added to Yuyu's mental instability, which had worsened to the point that it caused most others to avoid her. She gained several nicknames at this time, including "The Aloof Lily" and "Shinigami." The latter nickname arose from the popular belief that Yuyu's dangerous fighting style would get those she fought alongside killed[1]. Among her only remaining companions during this period were Mai and Hata Matsuri.
Takahata Masaki was considered a likely Schild candidate for Yuyu when the younger Lily was in junior high school, but that became impossible when Masaki transferred out of Yurigaoka[1].
During her second year of high school, Yuyu met Hitotsuyanagi Riri again after their brief encounter two years prior. Yuyu had saved Riri's life during the Koshu Evacuation, and Riri had been inspired by her example to become a Lily and enter Yurigaoka herself, where she hoped to take the Schutzengel's Oath with Yuyu.
Anime/game[edit | edit source]
In Assault Lily: Bouquet, Yuyu initially refused to take Riri on as her Schild, but agreed to do so after being persuaded by Kaede Johan Nouvel, mentioning in private that Riri "wouldn't understand otherwise" and expressing the hope that she would regret the decision. She later ordered Riri to gather members for a legion, as doing so would make her "act more like a proper Lily." Yuyu was not expecting Riri to be able to recruit the minimum roster of nine people, but thought failing to do so might be a good experience for her.
Riri surprised Yuyu by eventually finding all seven of the other Lilies needed for them to form a legion. This legion became Team Hitotsuyanagi.
Stage plays[edit | edit source]
In Assault Lily: League of Gardens, when Riri asked Yuyu to be her Schutzengel, Yuyu angrily told Riri that she wasn't someone Riri ought to admire and if Riri stayed close to her she'd only regret it. Later, Mai approached Riri and suggested that she form a legion, as it would be good for Yuyu to be in one. Riri had recruited six other Lilies for this unofficial legion by the time she decided to go to Shimokitazawa in pursuit of Ando Tazusa; Yuyu also accompanied them.
After the events that took place in Shimokitazawa, Yuyu agreed to take the Schutzengel's Oath with Riri and join the legion, which was then officially established as Team Hitotsuyanagi.
Combat Style[edit | edit source]
In both the first-generation Legion Álfheimr and her current legion, Team Hitotsuyanagi, Yuyu has specialized in fighting in the central AZ. She is renowned for her ability to keep enemies under pressure and is considered one of Yurigaoka'a finest front-line Lilies[6]. She fights in the style of a duelist, without relying on teamwork, and favors raw power over finesse[1].
Yuyu's favorite CHARM was her Gram, but she stopped using it after Álfheimr disbanded[1].
Yuyu generally only uses her Rare Skill in emergencies, as she is well aware that she's prone to losing control of herself due to Divine Possession.
Family[edit | edit source]
The Shirai are a prestigious family whose name is synonymous with resistance against the Huge, both in Kamakura Prefecture and elsewhere in the world. Many Lilies, Arsenals, military officers, and researchers bear the Shirai name.
Yuyu's father, Shirai Akito (白井暁翔), is the head of the extended Shirai family. He is the chairman of the Shirai Construction Group, the industry leader in building Gardens and other anti-Huge fortifications (they do not construct civilian buildings.)
Yuyu's mother, Shirai Aya (白井朱結), was once a talented Lily. She attended Yurigaoka during her active years, where she was elected as Brynhildr. She is known for her gentle demeanor.
Yuyu had a sister, Shirai Saaya (白井咲朱), who was several years older than her. She attended Yurigaoka, where she was beloved by all due to her refined and gentle personality, as well as her splendor upon the battlefield. She was Ortlinde in her second year and Sigrún in her third year. Yurigaoka's staff had plans to take Saaya on as an instructor, but shortly before she would have graduated, she died in battle[5].
In Lost Memories, it's revealed that Gozen is Shirai Saaya. She was resurrected as a Boosted Lily after her death.

- Yuyu likes black tea, sandwiches, and spicy food.
- Yuyu's hobbies are reading and watching theater.
- Yuyu dislikes vulgar and indecent things.
- According to Fumi, Yuyu hates cockroaches so much that if she saw one in the dormitory (or anywhere else), she would attack it with her CHARM[7][8].
- Before she awakened to her Rare Skill, Yuyu was hoping that she would awaken Testament, like her sister Saaya had[9].
- According to Obanazawa Kenei, Yuyu was the first character that he created with the intent of making a figurine of her, and she was created some time before Riri was[10].
- Elsewhere, Obanazawa has stated Ishikawa Aoi was the first Assault Lily character ever created[11], but she was not originally part of Assault Lily.
- On one early design sketch[12] of the Dainsleif, presumably made before the release of the version 1.0 Riri and Yuyu dolls in 2013, Yuyu is referred to as "Onee-sama" (Big Sister.)
- The characters in Yuyu's given name mean "dream" (夢) and "tie/bind" (結). Her surname, Shirai, literally means "white well."
- Yuyu's surname may be a reference to the real-world architect Shirai Seiichi.
