Tachibana Theresia Nagisa

Tachibana Theresia Nagisa (立花・テレジア・渚) is a second-year Lily who attends Ludvico Private Girls' Academy. She is the vice-captain of the Garden's Top Legion, the Temple Legion, and formerly a student of the Swedish Garden Heimskringla Trädgård. Nagisa is the Schwester of Hojo Monica Asahi, and a major character in the Ludvico series of stage plays.
Personality[edit | edit source]
Nagisa is a highly cheerful and social Lily, often serving as the life of the party amongst the second years. This trait was further amplified by her time overseas, as she has since taken the habit of greeting her friends with a peck on the cheek, as well as speaking to them while in their very close personal space. She is described as easygoing, and hardly ever bothered by things.[2]
Nagisa is a remarkably skilled fighter, being the former captain of Ludvico's top middle school Reserve, as well as integrating Heimskringla's flagship Legion during her time there. Because of it, she shows great mastery over her Rare Skill, Heaven's Measure, and is said to have great prospects for her future.[3] As a teacher, Nagisa is equal halves strict and encouraging, with Saeki Julia Karen remarking that she "says it like it is", while at the same time being given genuine advice by the second year on how to properly improve her skills.
Nagisa is shown to be a very emotional individual, and will constantly prioritize the well-being of her friends above all else, as exemplified in her multiple arguments with Ichinomiya Michaela Himari over ensuring the safety of Matsunaga Brigitta Kayo, and when she offered to kill a resurrected Nosaka Jacqueline Kazane when her former Schwester, Seto Veronica Ichika, was unable to, despite Nagisa harboring feelings of her own towards Kazane. Nagisa's strong connection with her emotions led her to strongly sympathize with Hojo Monica Asahi in her feelings towards Narumi Clara Yuko, eventually leading the pair to take the Schwester's Oath.
History[edit | edit source]
During her time in junior high, Nagisa met and became very close with the Lilies Fukuyama Jeanne Sachie, Seto Veronica Ichika, and Kuroki Francisca Yuria. The four engaged in a friendly rivalry as members of the Garden's strongest middle school Reserve, whom Nagisa was appointed as the captain of. Nagisa was particularly determined to best Ichika, who at the time was regarded as the single best BZ Lily, and shared a close relationship with Nosaka Jacqueline Kazane, whom Nagisa deeply loved.
After Kazane took the Schwester's Oath with Ichika, Nagisa was further driven to surpass her, and so, during their second year of junior high, Nagisa left Ludvico and enrolled into Heimskringla Trädgård, a Garden of worldwide renown for its emphasis on teaching the BZ position. Nagisa would eventually integrate Heimskringla's flagship Legion, sharing the battlefield with the sisters Wang Ruixi and Wang Lifen,[2] as well as briefly coming into contact with Wang Yujia.[4] Nagisa also became very close friends with Raquel Spreckelsen.[5]
During her time abroad, Nagisa remained in contact with her friends, eventually learning that Kazane ultimately died in combat while protecting her.

Schwester's Prayer[edit | edit source]

After Ichinomiya Michaela Himari transfers into Ludvico, Ichika calls Nagisa to break her the news, though Nagisa is left seemingly disappointed after learning that Himari came from Irma Girls' High School for the Arts. The pair then shift to talking about Sachie, after learning that Kishimoto Lucia Raimu, the younger sister of Sachie's late Schwester Kishimoto Maria Mirai, had enrolled into Ludvico as well. Ichika tells Nagisa of how after Mirai's death, Sachie had been visiting Ludvico's cemetery, Maria's Hill, every day.
During a standard deployment, Sachie performs unusually poorly in combat, and Ichika once again calls Nagisa in order to discuss her current mental state. Pointing out that Sachie is still unable to move on from her grief due to being shrouded in doubt, Nagisa wonders how Ichika was able to move on from losing Kazane, and Ichika responds that while she doesn't feel that she has, she has chosen to continue fighting in order to carry on her will. Nagisa remarks that once they think to themselves that they overcame their grief, they can still be overtaken by these feelings again before they notice.
Sachie calls Nagisa, telling her of how Raimu had declared her desire to become her Schwester. Nagisa is ecstatic at the news, but Sachie is unsure of how to respond, leaving Nagisa perplexed, as she believes her answer is obvious. Sachie tells Nagisa that she plans on hiding her easter egg during Ludvico's Easter Festival, and Nagisa playfully wonders what would be her response if someone other than Raimu found it.
Schwester's Secret[edit | edit source]

After learning that Ichika had suffered a debilitating injury in combat, Nagisa immediately decides to transfer back to Ludvico, despite Ruixi's pleas that she stay in Sweden.[2] She soon reunites with Sachie and Kayo while on their way to Ichika's hospital room, with Kayo appearing in unusually low spirits. Kayo tells Nagisa of how during a previous battle, her frenzied behavior while under the influence of her Lunatic Trancer prevented the other Lilies present from fighting properly, ultimately causing Ichika to severely injure herself while protecting Saeki Julia Karen from a Large-class Huge. Sachie and Nagisa try to tell Kayo not to blame herself, arguing that it is only natural for a Lily to risk her own life for others, though Nagisa is visibly bothered that the new captain of the Temple Legion, Himari, had been absent during this ordeal.
Kayo, however, is still unable to let go of her guilt, and following the appearance of a Cave, she refuses to activate her Lunatic Trancer in battle, despite Nagisa and Himari's protests. As the Temple Legion members begin to be appointed, Nagisa brings Kayo along, believing she'll be chosen like usual. However, the first year Hasegawa Gabriella Tsugumi is selected as the final member instead, prompting Kayo to run away from the other Lilies. Nagisa attempts to chase her, but as they are faced with a Gigant-class, Himari stops her from leaving.
The pair argues, with Himari insisting they should prioritize defeating the Huge, while Nagisa believes Himari to not care for her teammates. After making her pass during the Neunwelt Tactic, Nagisa leaves to search for Kayo anyway, telling Himari that she is still bound by Irma's rigid and pragmatic ideologies, which she argues have no place in Ludvico.
Later Nagisa talks with Ichika, having learned that the Temple Legion had encountered Mirai still alive after she left. Nagisa apologizes for not staying by Sachie's side in Ichika's stead, but Ichika responds none of them could have done anything in that situation. Ichika also apologizes to Nagisa for having to leave Sweden to take her place, and Nagisa tells her that she came back on her own will, and hopes Ichika recovers soon, so they can fight together once more.
Another Cave appears, and the Temple Legion is assembled to neutralize it. Despite being selected this time, Kayo is still absent, and Nagisa once again attempts to go find her, but Himari still stops her. Nagisa is once again upset, but Himari sends out Tsugumi to find Kayo in her stead, and Sachie assures Nagisa that Himari is a trustworthy leader. They begin a Neunwelt Tactic, but are interrupted by Mirai showing herself a second time. Mirai immediately engages the Temple Legion in combat, with Yuria hypothesizing that she had undergone a second Boosting procedure following her apparent death, causing the Huge cells in her body to become unstable and essentially turning her into a quasi-Huge. And so, the Temple Legion members work to keep Mirai in place, allowing Raimu to shoot her with the Magisphere.
In the aftermath, Nagisa and Sano Matilda Kokoro congratulate Kayo for taking the Schwester's Oath with Tsugumi. Kayo then tells the pair having realized that Raimu's Rare Skill was not Shukuchi like previously thought, but instead Charisma. The group is approached by Himari during their discussion, and Nagisa finally addresses her, revealing that she had been upset because she hoped to once again be placed as captain upon her return. Acknowledging her strength, Himari places Nagisa as the Temple Legion's vice-captain in Ichika's stead, prompting Nagisa to excitedly kiss her on the cheek, leaving Himari extremely flustered.
White Resistance ~The Promise's Path~[edit | edit source]

Nagisa, together with Sachie and Kayo, break the news of Mirai's fate to the third year Lilies Takatori Natalie Towa and Li Christina Susu, Mirai's former Legion mates. Kayo proposes that they join them in training, so that they also integrate the Temple Legion in order to keep close watch on GEHENA, and help in protecting Raimu. However, Towa and Susu refuse, as they suspect that Ludvico themselves may have approved the experiments conducted on Mirai, and they do not wish to take part in a Legion directly run by the Garden. Instead, Towa proposes that they form a new Legion in honor of Mirai’s legacy.
As a second year Lily, Nagisa is tasked with supervising the first year Lilies in their training. With all the other first years already forming their pairs, Nagisa is left with watching over Karen and Amamiya Sophia Seren, whose Schwester, Yuria, was unusually absent. As they train, Seren performs well, but Karen continuously fails to grasp proper combat tactics, causing her to be continuously reprimanded by Nagisa.
When learning that Himari and Hanaoka Angela Moe were suddenly ambushed by a Cave away from the Garden, Nagisa and the other Temple Legion members move out to rescue her. They run into Yuria, who had taken to drawing the Huge's attention while Himari and Moe escaped, and while the other Lilies continue on to find Himari, Nagisa stays behind with Yuria, noticing that she appeared to struggle due to her wounds, despite possessing the Regenerator Skill. The pair is promptly joined by Ichika and the first years, and they move out to regroup with Himari and the other Lilies, arriving at the scene just as Moe awakens to the Rare Skill Phantasm, allowing them to instantly push back against the remaining Huge.
Following the ambush on Himari, Sachie decides on leaving the Temple Legion and forming her own, independent Legion. She attempts to invite her fellow first years, but Nagisa is heartbroken at Sachie leaving their side after finally being reunited. Nagisa ultimately refuses, not wanting to let go of her position as vice-captain entrusted to her by Himari and Ichika.
Later, Nagisa finds Hojo Monica Asahi, using the combat simulator to vent her frustrations. Nagisa encourages Asahi to let her emotions out, and Asahi tearfully tells her of how she had always strived to remain by the side of her longtime partner, Narumi Clara Yuko, but couldn't agree with her joining Sachie's Legion with the insincere feelings she carried, causing them to argue. Nagisa advises Asahi to not base her worth as a Lily on who she fights with, but who she fights for, telling her that joining different Legions doesn't mean their friendship has to end. Nagisa remarks how lying to oneself based on their feelings for others is a worse alternative, and that it is something she still has to tell herself.
Nagisa approaches Ichika, having learned that she had been considering becoming an Arsenal in the wake of her injury. Reminiscing their time together in junior high, Nagisa encourages Ichika to join Sachie's Legion as a Lily in order to give her the support she needs, arguing that if she chooses to retire, Kazane's sacrifice for her would have been in vain. Ichika breaks down, telling Nagisa that even after working hard to become as strong as Kazane was, she still had to die for her sake, but Nagisa urges Ichika to not blame herself for Kazane's death, the same way she does not blame Karen for her own injury.
The Temple Legion is assembled following the appearance of a Cave, and Ichika gives Nagisa a CHARM she helped create, the Dragoon Edge, as a parting gift, declaring that she'll be joining Sachie's new Legion, titled Ironside. The two Legions converge in the battlefield, and the Temple Legion begins a Neunwelt while Ironside keeps the surrounding Huge at bay. However, Moe is unable to properly control the Magisphere, causing it to be lost. With half of their members depleted of their Magie, the still capable Temple Legion members, including Nagisa, join Ironside in performing a second Neunwelt, successfully destroying the Huge.
In the aftermath, Kayo tells the other second years that, in the wake of their discoveries pertaining to Raimu's father, there is a possibility that she was born a Boosted Lily, though her Rare Skill, Charisma, should prevent her from showing any adverse side effects.
White Resistance ~The Blade of Truth~[edit | edit source]

After the appearance of a Gigant-class, the Temple Legion is deployed to neutralize it. However, since the formation of Legion Ironside, there are no longer enough Lilies in Ludvico powerful enough for the Temple Legion to reach the minimum nine members required to perform the Neunwelt Tactic. As such, they are briefly joined by the newly arrived Instructor Makabe Melania Sayoko in taking down the Gigant-class Huge.
During their regular training session, Karen is frustrated after being ignored by the Instructors, despite also being a member of Ironside. Nagisa retorts that she is not acknowledged because she is yet to show any potential, and though this only further demotivates Karen, Nagisa encourages her to keep on training, arguing that she'll undoubtedly see results if she does so. After classes are over, Nagisa finds Karen still training by herself, and advises her to call it a day, pointing out how her CHARM was greatly overheated. Nagisa tells Karen of the advice Ichika would receive from Kazane, of how a Lily should always listen to her CHARM, as well as "the voices of the wind."
Later, Nagisa runs into Asahi once again, heartbroken after Clara took on Moe as her new training partner, tearfully remarking to Nagisa that she no longer has a place by Clara's side. Empathizing with her feelings, Nagisa tells her of her own experiences in trying her hardest to get Kazane's attention, and how after her death, she came to understand that, as Lilies, they should always continue looking ahead. Telling Asahi that she should begin walking her own path with someone new, Nagisa offers the first year her Medalha, and the pair take the Schwester's Oath, leaving to train together soon after.
During, Asahi spots Raimu and Seren as they leave Ludvico in order to return to Raimu's old family home. During their time away from the Garden, the pair is suddenly attacked by a Cave, and so, Asahi and Nagisa leave to find and warn Sachie, being soon joined by the other Temple Legion members in their search. Though eventually finding Sachie and the rest of Legion Ironside, they are unable to reach Raimu and Seren due to the large outpour of Small and Mid-class Huge from the Cave. And so, the Temple Legion agrees to stay back and keep the Huge at bay, while Ironside sets out to rescue the pair.
Some time later, Nagase Marta Nonoka, one of the only first years yet to awaken their Rare Skills, is invited by Asahi to join her in training with Nagisa.
At Maria's Hill, Nagisa finds Himari praying alone, lamenting that despite transferring to Ludvico in order to fight together with Sachie, they now have chosen different paths for themselves. Nagisa urges her to let go of her infatuation for Sachie, and instead turn her trust and expectations towards the Temple Legion members still by her side, telling Himari that she is still willing to remain together with her in the Temple Legion. Himari accepts Nagisa's words, remarking that she is "the greatest vice-captain I could ask for."
The Temple Legion and Ironside assemble following the appearance of a Gigant-class Huge near the Garden. Learning that Kayo, Raimu and Seren were stuck fighting Instructor Sayoko, Himari orders Sachie, Yuria, Tsugumi and Karen to go to their rescue, while the remaining Lilies perform the Neunwelt Tactic together. As they do so, however, they notice a Lily accompanying the Gigant-class, who is revealed to be a resurrected Kazane. She steals the Magisphere and fires it back at the Lilies, and as the Gigant-class flees, Ichika and Nagisa stay behind and fight Kazane, while the other Lilies follow in pursuit of the Gigant-class.
As their battle progresses, Ichika is unable to bring herself to harm her former Schwester, and Nagisa proposes that she be the one to finish her off. Ichika disagrees, steeling her resolve as she removes the Medalha given to her by Kazane. They realize that Kazane possesses a Magie Reflector, concluding that the only way to lethally strike her is to aim for her heart. After Kazane briefly falters after glimpsing Ichika's medalha on the ground, Ichika seizes the opportunity and holds her in place, allowing Nagisa to successfully take the shot. In her final moments, Kazane regains her consciousness, and Nagisa returns her the Medalha, which she once again places around Ichika's neck.
Enraged, Ichika promises to spare no mercy to the one who defiled Kazane's memory, however, she is immediately shot down by Sayoko, in retaliation for hindering their experiment. Sayoko is pushed back by Instructor Kosaka Anastasia Ryoko while Asahi and Karen arrive at the scene, and holding Ichika in her arms, Karen tells her of how she finally awakened to the Rare Skill Regista, reminding the second year of her promise to become her Schwester once she awakened her Rare Skill. Ichika places her Medalha around Karen's neck, but her consciousness gives out soon after. By Nagisa's request, Karen adorns Ichika's neck with her own Medalha, which Nagisa remarks that it "really suits her."
After tending to Ichika, Nagisa briefly returns to the other Lilies' aid, finding an exhausted Legion Ironside in the wake of their battle with Instructor Ryoko, who was revealed to also work in service of GEHENA. Nagisa contacts command, informing them of the state of emergency faced by Ludvico and requesting immediate backup. With Ryoko having survived the Lilies' previous attempt at defeating her, Nagisa briefly joins Sachie and Himari in fighting her, before Raimu takes to fighting the Instructor by herself.
At a later moment, the Lilies receive a report that Ludvico's campus in Hachioji had also been attacked by a Great Cave. As the Huge at the head of the horde was also said to possess a Magie Reflector, Nagisa was summoned to neutralize it due to her Rare Skill, Heaven's Measure. According to Himari, she "performed her duties splendidly."[6]
Trivia[edit | edit source]
- Nagisa's confirmation name, "Theresia", could be in reference to one of several Catholic Saints who adopt the title of "Saint Teresa", with notable examples including Saints Teresa of Ávila, Teresa Benedicta and Théresè of Lisieux.
- Notably, "Theresia", is a commonly adopted pronunciation of "Teresa" in German and Dutch.
- Nagisa's existence as a character predates her presence in the Assault Lily universe. A character named "Tachibana Nagisa" appears in other plays by Ludvico Private Girls' Academy dating back to 2014, where she was performed by Shirakawa Yuna. However, in some of these plays, Nagisa differs significantly from her Assault Lily incarnation in appearance and personality.
- In the revival versions of the stage plays, Nagisa is shown wielding a unique variation of the Gungnir Carbine which is operated backwards, with the hilt/stock part becoming the muzzle.
- Nagisa's hobbies include studying English and baton twirling.[7]
- Nagisa's favorite drink is Frappuccino.[8]
