Tetsukawa Toa

Tetsukawa Toa (鉄川兎愛) is a Lily who attends Yurigaoka Girls' Academy. She is a reserve member of Legion Sanngriðr. Known as the Al-Mi'raj, she is one of the few remaining users of the Shock Blade technique after the destruction of Zushi International Girls' High School, where it was taught.

Personality

Toa is a notorious womanizer who loves to form intimate relationships with all of her "wonderful senpai." She's been like this to some degree ever since she entered Yurigaoka, and in high school has now firmly established herself in the role of a little sister seeking to be doted upon.

According to her sister, Kiyo, Toa has (or had, at one point) a "timid nature."

History

Toa is a "homegrown" Yurigaoka Lily who nearly got the highest score on the elementary school entrance exam—second only to Endo Araya. In elementary school, she started doing errands for the Sigrún faction of the student council and became friends with Araya, Kurokawa Nady Hanna, and Imai Seira, among others.

Meeting Maho

Toa was still in elementary school when Nagasaka Maho was taken into Yurigaoka's custody. Maho was placed in the special dormitory, where she was in pain due to the side effects of having been boosted, making Kitagawara Inori want to do something for her. Inori then asked Toa if she could take care of Maho. At the time, Toa had a crush on Rosalinde Friedegunde von Otto, so she agreed to look after Maho with the ulterior motive that it would give her a reason to be in the special dormitory and invite Rosalinde to take tea with her.

That was Toa's original reason, but as she spent time with Maho, easing her painful side effects with Magi exchanges, Toa grew to genuinely want to help her. In turn, Maho-san gradually opened her heart to Toa and began to talk to her more.

Homare's Training Club

When Toa was just about to enter junior high school, Yurigaoka suggested to her that she change her fighting style to abandon the use of the Shock Blade technique. Although the Shock Blade was popular during the duel era, it's quite a dangerous technique, and should not be used unless necessary. But because she'd learned the Shock Blade from her blood sister, Toa refused to stop using it. Because of this, the Garden removed her from the list of Lilies designated for talent development. Even so, Toa had no regrets.

It was then that Toa heard about an older Lily who had also had her designation for talent development stripped from her: Imagawa Homare. Intrigued, Toa went to Murakami Tokiwa, who she was already on good terms with, and asked her to introduce her to Homare-sama so she could take part in Homare's training club. Although Homare and those who trained with her, like Seike Tomoyo, had completely different fighting styles from Toa, that only made the three of them hit it off even more.

After they'd both entered junior high, Toa invited Maho to join Homare's training club. Maho was scared of combat training, but felt that she was in Toa's debt, so she accepted the invitation. To her surprise, Maho was able to enjoy herself in the training club and even made new friends there, which made Toa happy as well.

Eventually, Maho asked Toa if she wanted to be roommates when they entered high school, and Toa immediately agreed.

The Fall of Zushi

When Toa was in her 3rd year of junior high school, Zushi International Girls' High School was attacked in force by the Huge and destroyed. Most of the Lilies attending the Garden died when this happened. Toa's blood sister, Tetsukawa Kiyo, was an instructor at the Garden and shared in its fate as well. In her last moments, Kiyo left behind a hair ornament for Toa, as well as a message for her.

To my beloved Toa.
I so dearly wished to see you grow into a Lily of Yurigaoka who would bring succor to all Kamakura Prefecture, but it seems that wish is one that shall go ungranted.
I wonder, when you cross swords with the Huge, will that timid nature of yours cause you to take fright?
Have courage, because when you wield the blade that I have entrusted to you, forever shall your sister be by your side.

Toa was utterly heartbroken by her sister's death. She wasn't able to continue training, and was moved to the special dormitory because of her listless state. At this time, many Lilies from Sanngriðr and the Dueling Generation tried to lift Toa's spirits.

Maho was the one who tried hardest of all, visiting Toa in her room and keeping her company every day. At this time, the Great Huge Onslaught was taking place, and Maho often had to respond to attacks. But she never talked to Toa about the fighting, only about their interests and things that had happened to her in class. It didn't matter to Maho whether Toa could fight as a Lily once more; she just wanted her to be happy again, and that's why she never encouraged Toa to take up her CHARM and fight.

Thanks to everyone's support, Toa was able to recover to the point that she felt she could wield "the blade her sister had entrusted to her"—the Shock Blade. She told this to Maho first of all. When she did, Maho burst into tears of joy at the fact that Toa was finally feeling better.

Joining Sanngriðr

Toa vowed "I will fight with the Shock Blade that my sister left behind for me." When she did that, she remembered that Homare and Tomoyo, who she'd trained together with in the past, had at the time been hoping to form a legion. The members of that legion, Sanngriðr, and the Lilies of the Dueling Generation had all been kind to her during her stay in the special dormitory.

Toa wanted to once again feel the bonds of steel that the Lilies of the Dueling Generation shared amongst themselves, and she made up her mind to join Legion Sanngriðr. Toa asked to join Sanngriðr after she entered high school, not long after the legion was officially allowed to form by the Garden..

Combat Style

Toa is one of the best duelists in her school year. She specializes in the use of the Shock Blade technique previously taught by Zushi International Girls' High School, and proudly fights with an exceptionally aggressive combat style based on the use of it when she's dueling. Her favorite coup de grâce is to go straight from firing a series of Sonic Waves or a barrage in Shooting Mode into hitting her target with the Shock Blade.

After using the Shock Blade, Toa uses chiburui to remove the rampant Magi from her CHARM before sheathing it.

Toa is recognized as tactically astute and, like Kiko Totori, fights with the goal of "maintaining a strong defense while making swift attacks." Toa's beautiful passes have lead to others calling her a "pass artist." She's also amazing at firing finishing shots from the midfield, and her moments of true magnificence come when, on the spur of the moment, she fires the finish shot from a distance. .

Trivia

• Toa's hair ornament was once one of a matching pair. The other one was worn by her late sister, Kiyo.
• Toa's heterochromia is a result of her "weird way of using Magi", specifically from using the "Shock Blade" technique in combination with Phase Transcendence.
