Kato Ayame

From Assault Lily Wiki
(Redirected from Ayame)

Kato Ayame (加藤菖蒲) was a Lily associated with Kuramayama Environmental. At the time of her final death she would have been a second year Lily.

Overview

[edit | edit source]

The following information is taken from the book "Assault Lily Setting Materials featuring the Flowers of the End."[1]

Life at Kuramayama Environmental & Labs

[edit | edit source]

Ayame was orphaned when she lost her family in a Huge attack. She ultimately ended up in a care facility run by Kuramayama Environmental. Her Skiller value and other talents put her above-average for a Lily, one who would be accepted at any regular Garden. Though always kind, Ayame was also prone to intense emotions, and it was this part of her that led others to assume she would be a front line Lily.

Devoted to her fellow test subjects, caring for them when they were ill, while retaining a strong sense of right and wrong, Ayame was widely regarded as a good person. She was closest, however, to Kagawa Makina and Saito Motoko, who, like her, hadn't volunteered but instead were given to the lab, as they were orphans and refugees. It was during this period also that Ayame would get to know Shiba Tomoshibi.

Ayame & Makina Notice Changes in the Lab

[edit | edit source]

The experiments at Kuramayama Labs were, to a point, done with consideration for the subjects. When that point came, the experiments changed to ones that were overly onerous, to the point it was clear the experimenters were willing to make sacrifices of the subjects. Most of those surgeries were performed on the girls that ranked in the 100s of the 13 Sisters project.

Early in, Kagawa Makina was subjected to one of these boosting procedures, one that was "one step removed" from the final procedure of the experiment. Makina suffered immensely from the side effects, but she somehow endured. Witnessing this suffering, however, led Ayame to suggest that they escape. Makina was quick to come up with a concrete plan to flee. Later testing would reveal that Makina's IQ was quite high; her plan was in fact flawless.

Failed Escape

[edit | edit source]

Though flawless, the plan nevertheless failed. The reason being that Motoko, scared of running away, told the researchers about the plan. The three of them were on the verge of being captured. That was when Ayame made herself into a distraction in order to allow Makina to run. She utilized her subskill, Liminal Madness, and threw herself at her would-be captors in a frenzy. Both the researchers, and the facility, sustained a great deal of damage in her rampage.

This made it so Makina was able to run away, but Ayame herself was captured. She was subjected to aggressive brainwashing as well as experiments with low success rates, treated as disposable. In the end, she couldn't endure, her subjectivity shattered, and she became a remnant.

Ayame's Inclusion in the Flowers of the End

[edit | edit source]

Kojima Nadeshiko personally took possession of the broken Ayame. Nadeshiko's theory is that the door to becoming a Princess lies in overcoming one's own heart. Therefore, given Ayame's hellish experience, and the actions she took that led her there, it's likely Nadeshiko believes there's a chance that Ayame can do just that.

While Ayame lacks any subjectivity now, Nadeshiko helps maintain her abilities as a Lily. For her rare skill, she has Heliosphere, while her Boosted Skills are Regenerator and Weave Syntax.

New Chapter 1 & 2

[edit | edit source]

Ayame appeared as a "remnant," a Lily whose mind had been broken and her memories scattered due to intense, torture-like boosting experimentation, essentially making her little better than a Huge herself. In NC1 she had no dialogue, but in NC2 when she regained her sense of self, she spent the time left to her being what she always was: kind. She forgave Motoko for telling the researchers about their escape plans, saying she should have talked to her and reassured her fears. Then, after hearing Makina had in fact made it out all right and was in a legion with Matsumura Fuka, she asked Fuuka to convey a message to Makina: "You don't need to come back for us anymore."
