Sumitani Miki

Sumitani Miki (隅谷水晶) is a second year Lily who attends Ryuto Girls' Academy. She is a member of Legion Dúfa, and its captain. She's known for being the only survivor of the previous LG Dúfa, who died in the Sado Island Withdrawal in the wake of Fafnir's invasion. Miki was thusly labeled a coward by the rest of Ryuto, and was particularly hated by Enomoto Komomo.

History

One year ago, as it became clear that Sado Island was lost to Fafnir's invasion, a boat carrying civilians had yet to launch to sea. Knowing they had to stay and fight in order to give the boat a chance to make it to safety, LG Dúfa, the only legion available on the island, embraced their duty. However, Enomoto Yaya, the then-captain, ordered Miki to get on the boat. As Miki was the only first year Lily at the time, the other members of the legion had no qualms with this. Though Miki argued passionately she be allowed to stay, Yaya gently ordered her to board the boat and ensure all civilians made it out alive.

Miki, knowing the rest of her legion were going to their deaths, could only accept. But before she did, Miki and Yaya took the Gullinkambi Pact together, exchanging medals to show their sisterhood. Miki and all the civilians made it back to Ryuto alive, but given the Garden's warrior culture, not a soul viewed this as anything other than cowardice on her part. Though she was ostracized from the rest of the Garden, she did not let that deter her; instead, she dedicated everything she had to destroying Fafnir.

Though set on carrying out her fallen comrades' dying wish, Miki's singular worry was Komomo. Komomo was Yaya's blood-related sister, though Miki grew up with the both of them and was close enough to also be viewed just like a real sister to them both. It was perhaps this very closeness that made Komomo's hatred for Miki at "letting Yaya die" turn all the more vicious. No matter how much care Miki showed her, Komomo would never forgive her.
