Ryuto Girls' Academy
Ryuto Girls' Academy (柳都女学館) is a Garden in Niigata, Japan, being the sole Garden responsible for the entire Prefecture's defenses.[1]
Location
[edit | edit source]Though its precise location is unknown, The main campus of Ryuto Girls' Academy is said to be located in metropolitan Niigata. Its school campus is built primarily out of wood, a product of the Garden's inclinations towards Viking culture.[2] Ryuto also possesses several branch schools spread across Niigata, which serve as outposts where its headlining Legions are stationed in order to provide defenses for those particular territories.[3]
Overview
[edit | edit source]Much like Odaiba Girls' School, Ryuto prides itself in being a military Garden. Its Lilies place great importance in the glory of combat, as well as remaining defiant in the face of hardship.[4] Due to this sense of pride, the Lilies of Ryuto find great honor in laying down their very lives for the battlefield, to the point of viewing the notion of self-preservation as cowardly and dishonorable.[2][5] Similarly, most Ryuto Lilies are usually against requesting aid from outsiders, adopting the belief that "the most beautiful flowers bloom amidst the most vicious battlefields, and to surrender that glory to the hands of others makes you not a hero, but a coward".[6][7] Despite this, Ryuto's Lilies will still acknowledge other Gardens if them deem sufficiently mighty, and it is tradition for them to always repay anyone who they feel indebted to.[8]
A particularly notable feature of Ryuto is its adoption of traditional Viking culture. Students aspire to become warriors with bravery worthy of receiving the title of "Hero" (勇者). As such, strength and fearlessness are traits greatly valued among them, while Lilies who appear more "fragile" or "sensitive" are usually looked down upon.[9] This desire to be regarded as Heroes is the major catalyst for their desire to die heroic deaths, with a common farewell statement between Ryuto's Lilies being "may we one day reunite in Valhalla".
In regards to combat, Ryuto greatly values their Lilies' offensive capabilities. Their approach to the Neunwelt Tactic notably bears influences from the more individualistic Duelist techniques, and their Legions will very often only have one or two Lilies in the BZ position.[10] The berserker Rare Skill Lunatic Trancer is one of particularly high appraisal within the Garden.[11]
Legion System
[edit | edit source]Ryuto has nine headlining Legions, aptly called the Legions of the Nine (9大レギオン). Because the Garden must provide defenses to the whole of Niigata completely by itself, these Legions are usually stationed in branch schools that exist throughout the Prefecture, and will primarily deploy in defense of their encompassing territory. The exception for this is Legion Himinglæva, which instead operates as a strike team that may be deployed to any territory in order to aid the other eight Legions whenever needed.[12]
Listed below are Ryuto's Legions of the Nine and their territories.

Ryuto allows for the formation of Reserves, and also employs Madecs.[13]
History
[edit | edit source]Ryuto Girls' Academy was originally founded by the Sengo household, with the family not only governing the Garden's student body, but also producing several prodigious Lilies.[14] Prior to the Fafnir's appearance, Ryuto remained a stable Garden.[15]
The battle against the Ultra-class Huge Fafnir
[edit | edit source]Main articles: Assault Lily Glory, Assault Lily: The Raid for the Liberation of Niigata
Shortly after the Odaiba Counteroffensive, the Ultra-class Huge Fafnir, one of the world's Seven Great Ultras, emerged on Sado, an island directly facing Niigata which was the territory of Ryuto's Legion Dúfa. The Fafnir's appearance was soon followed by a large scale onslaught, with hordes of Huge that included Irregular and Gigant-types laying wast upon the island while the Fafnir began the formation of its Nest. Legions Dúfa and Uðr, as well as Ryuto's junior high Lilies, immediately moved to intercept the Huge in the island and safeguard its civilians. Meanwhile, Legions Blóðughadda and Hefring stationed themselves along the coast of Niigata, where they led Ryuto's efforts to prevent the Huge from reaching the mainland. Legion Himinglæva also participated in this battle.
With Legion Uðr's aid, Dúfa achieved major victories in this battle, as through their efforts, the formation of the Fafnir's Nest was significantly delayed, while all the civilians of the island were successfully evacuated. However, with the exception of the first year Sumitani Miki, all of Dúfa's members were killed in fighting to ensure the safe evacuation of one of Sado's northern cities. On the other hand, Blóðughadda and Hefring were successful in preventing the Huge from reaching the coast, and despite Ryuto's failure to prevent the Fafnir from completing its Nest, the two Legions continuously emerged victorious in the subsequent battles to defend mainland Japan from the masses of Huge pouring from the Nest in Sado.
Ryuto's conflict with the Fafnir's forces continued for the entire year that followed, with the Huge overtaking Sado Island completely, and eventually succeeding in reaching Niigata, with many territories within the prefecture being lost to their control. Legion Blóðughadda went on to become the centerpiece of Ryuto's defensive efforts, with the Garden becoming overy reliant on them. However, during an operation carried out by Blóðughadda in the overrun city of Sanjo, in Chuetsu, their captain, Miyairi Fubuki, suffered grave injuries following an encounter with an Irregular Huge. This forced Blóðughadda to retreat from Ryuto's front lines, leading Ryuto's military efforts to completely come undone. Fubuki's accident also became led to her Legion's disbandment, and the entire incident birthed an internal divide that greatly hindered Ryuto, very nearly bringin the Garden to its collapse.
In the face of this crisis, Himinglæva's Sengo Yuuna decided, as a last resort, to request the aid of Yurigaoka Girls' Academy's Legion Álfheimr in hopes of carrying out a final strategy directly against the Fafnir. Following their arrival, Álfheimr primarily served as a replacement for Blóðughadda, frequently deploying with Himinglæva to neutralize Irregular and Gigant-class Huge and aid the other Legions of the Nine in their own deployments. Through their efforts, much of the divide hindering Ryuto's capabilities was resolved, allowing the Garden to resume its offensive. After being joined by Odaiba Girls' School's Legions Heorot Saints and Hronesnæsse, Álfheimr and the captains of the Legions of the Nine were able to carry out their final operation against the Fafnir, the Mission Drachentöter, which finally succeeded in destroying the Ultra-class Huge.
Gullinkambi Pact
[edit | edit source]
Similar to Yurigaoka's Schutzengel System or Odaiba's Blood Oath, Ryuto also possesses a vow of sisterhood called the Gullinkambi Pact. The name originates from a rooster featuring in the Norse poem and creation myth Völuspá, and translates to "golden comb". Lilies who take the Gullinkambi pact will exchange medals they've made for the other to wear, in a manner similar to Ludvico Private Girls' Academy's medalhas. Though multiple Lilies can be bound by the pact,[16] a Lily may only take the Gullinkambi pact with one junior and one senior.[11]
