Yoshihara Nanoha

Yoshihara Nanoha (吉原菜乃葉) is a second year Lily who attends Ryuto Girls' Academy. She is a member of Legion Hefring, one of the nine strongest legions at Ryuto, and serves as both its captain and commander. Nanoha's sheer skill makes her one of the most formidable Lilies in all of Ryuto.

Personality

In a word, Nanoha is proud. She carries herself like a noble, but her skill easily matches that pride, meaning few can say anything against her. Despite this, or perhaps because of this, she tends to be competitive. She particularly has it out for Sengo Yuuna, but also, anyone at all who fought at the Odaiba Counteroffensive, which Nanoha was not a participant in.

History

Nanoha is an only child, but growing up she lived near another girl, Miyairi Fubuki, and the two were very close. Close enough that Nanoha has always viewed Fubuki like an older sister. The two of them entered Ryuto's elementary school together to become Lilies.

Fubuki distinguished herself quickly with overwhelming duelist prowess, however, as the Neunwelt Tactic era dawned, Fubuki found herself struggling to do much more than play the AZ during the tactic. Out of respect for her older sister, Nanoha sought to mold herself into her own ideal, someone who could support Fubuki and make up for her shortcomings. Nanoha thus came to be a commander type, someone skilled at marshaling military force and organizing battle plans. Given her rare skill, she's quite similar to Banshoya Ena in that respect.

One year ago, Sado Island fell to Fafnir, one of the Seven Great Ultras. While Ryuto failed to prevent it from establishing its Nest on the island, Nanoha, leading Legion Hefring, and Fubuki, leading Legion Blóðughadda, fought and won every single engagement since then to prevent Fafnir's minion Huge from making it to Niigata itself. Despite this miraculous defense, Sengo Yuuna's legion, Legion Himinglæva, which dispatched on offensive probes into Fafnir's territory, were viewed more favorably than either Nanoha or Fubuki's legions. This is the true reason for Nanoha's enmity towards Yuuna, and since Yuuna also participated in the Counteroffensive, it extends to anyone else who did, as well.

But then Fubuki was injured in an assault on Niigata port, and her legion fell apart. What followed was depicted in Assault Lily Glory.

Combat Style

Lily otaku tend to swoon over Nanoha's fighting style, which is described as both flashy and flamboyant. She's even been featured in a special edition of World Lily Graphic. Her preferred method is to wield a blade-type CHARM in one hand, and a large blunt-type CHARM in the other. This way, even if enemies can read her sword arm, she can simply smash through them with the blunt weapon. Nanoha is also known for changing her CHARMs nearly every deployment.
