Arata Ohashi (大橋灼) is a Lily who attends Kaiseizan Girls' High School.
With an estimated Skiller Value of 50, the minimum to activate a CHARM, Arata hardly qualifies as a Lily. She was on track to fail the Kaiseizan entrance exam, but shocked the instructors when—without any training or instruction—she instinctively activated the Magi Crystal Limit Break that Kaiseizan's CHARMs are tuned to be capable of.
Moreover, when (and only when) in the Awakened state, she has the ability to wield two CHARMs, though Circlet Bless is usually impossible for a Lily of her caliber to have. The theory specialists in Kaiseizan's Arsenal Department have been debating whether the Awakened state boosts Arata's Skiller Value enough for her Rare Skill to manifest, or whether she has a currently unrecognized subskill version of Circlet Bless.
Because of her uniqueness, Kaiseizan chose to admit Arata as a special exception, even though she technically doesn't meet their standards.
Appearance[edit | edit source]
Arata is slender and of medium height. She has long red hair, which she wears in two ponytails tied with black ribbons, and light brown eyes.
Arata uses two Gungnirs. One has a silver frame with black overlay, and the other (her sister's) has a pink frame with red overlay. Unless Awakened, she can't use both CHARMs at once and so carries her sister's Gungnir on her back.
When Awakened, Arata's hair is silver on the left side and pink on the right side.
History[edit | edit source]
Arata was born in Yamanashi, Japan. She has a sister, Akira, who is two years older than her. The two of them have always been close.
Akira was an active Lily at Kaiseizan when the Koshu Evacuation happened. She suffered a grievous injury during the fighting and never fully recovered; though she is in stable condition now, she has limited mobility and was forced to retire from being a Lily. When she retired, Akira gave Arata her old Gungnir, though Arata was unable to activate it at the time.
The girl tried to activate the Gungnir almost daily for the next two years, while also self-studying in hopes of preparing herself to be a Lily, and managed to finally activate it on the very cusp of her reaching high school age. Arata wasted no time applying to enter Kaiseizan, now that she felt she truly had a chance of becoming a Lily.
Unfortunately for Arata, the Kaiseizan entrance exam measured her Skiller Value as exactly 50, below the level most Gardens will consider enrolling Lilies at; it called into question whether she'd even be able to manifest a Rare Skill. The instructors were set to reject her despite her good scores on the written tests, but allowed her to attempt the combat exam as well.
There, Arata showed them her brilliance.
Without having been told to do it, or even having been shown how to do it, Arata intuitively shut off the limiter of her CHARM's Magi Crystal Core. She followed that up by dual-wielding the Gungnir she'd been loaned together with her sister's Gungnir, even though Circlet Bless is thought to require a far higher Skiller Value than hers in order to manifest. It was little more than a footnote that she aced the exam.
Afterwards, Arata became the topic of fierce debate. The Kaiseizan student council felt that what she'd done, while impressive and unprecedented, wouldn't be practical in combat (at least at a Garden like Kaiseizan) and she shouldn't be permitted to enroll. They were opposed by a multitude of Arsenals nationwide, who desperately wanted to study Arata. These Arsenals tried to convince Arata to instead enroll as an Arsenal herself, or apply to different Gardens like Jogashima or Hijiribashi, but Arata refused to consider any future besides that of being a Lily at Kaiseizan.
The Arsenals applied pressure to the student council on Arata's behalf, and with their help, she was finally allowed to enroll in Kaiseizan.
Family[edit | edit source]
Most of Arata's family lives in an evacuation zone for refugees from Yamanashi.
Arata's older sister, Akira Ohashi (大橋炳), is a retired Lily. She attends a civilian high school in Tokyo, Japan and is hoping to study medicine in the future.
