Arsenals are students at some Gardens who specialize in maintaining, customizing and improving CHARMs.

History

During the earliest days of Lilies and Gardens, the duty of CHARM maintenance was delegated to Madecs. But when second-generation CHARMs were invented, caring for them properly took knowledge and skill beyond what the standard curriculum for Lilies could accommodate.

Some Gardens thus established a separate department to teach these skills, known as the 'Arsenal Department'. Students which study in this department are known as 'Arsenals'. Not all Arsenals devote themselves entirely to CHARMs; some also research subjects like Magi, the ecology of the Huge, or the Boosted Lilies created by GEHENA.

Arsenal Departments

Arsenal departments are expensive to operate, and not all Gardens have one. Those which don't have to make arrangements with a nearby Garden that does have such a department to service their Lilies' CHARMs.

In Kamakura, Japan, the Gardens most renowned for their Arsenals are Jogashima and Yurigaoka. These two Gardens share the principle of training "combat Arsenals" who can take part in battle as Lilies do. Some Arsenals who design their own CHARMs, such as Mashima Moyu, believe that it's their responsibility to personally field test their own creations. This is an unusual perspective, and there are other Gardens which do not encourage their Arsenals to take part in combat, as well as Arsenals with no desire to do so.

At a few Gardens, such as Odaiba Girls' School, it is a policy to include Arsenals in every legion for the specific purpose of rebooting overheated CHARMs. These types of policies date back to when B-type Armaments were commonly used.

While some Arsenals are also Lilies, Futagawa Fumi is unaware of any Arsenals who are also active Madecs.
