Assault Lily: The Raid for the Liberation of Niigata

Assault Lily: The Raid for the Liberation of Niigata (アサルトリリィ～電撃新潟奪還戦, officially titled Assault Lily: Dengeki Niigata Recapture Battle) is a short webnovel written by Akizuki Taiga (秋月大河) that was originally published for free on the website Dengeki Hobby Web between June 2021 and March 2022. The novel was later released as a printed book, which featured a new cover and exclusive epilogue, on August 5, 2022.[1]

The novel chronicles the events of the Liberation of Niigata, and while it is centered primarily around Yurigaoka Girls' Academy's Legion Álfheimr, it also features the viewpoints of several Legions of Ryuto Girls' Academy.

Premise

Half a century has gone by since the appearance of the mysterious life forms known as Huge. Completely helpless before their threat, humanity was driven to the brink of collapse.

However, this would be averted upon the discovery of the great power known as “Magie”, and those who displayed the highest resonance with Magie were girls who came to be called “Lilies”. By taking arms with the mighty weapons known as “CHARMs”, they were able to stand against the Huge’s onslaught.

But even still, the Huge, who also made use of Magie as the source of their power, continued to mutate and evolve, and as such, there remained no end in sight for humanity’s struggle.

Among them were the so-called “Living Calamities”, the Seven Greatest Ultra-class Huge that walked the Earth. And standing mighty above them was Fafnir, the most implacable of them all. Fafnir would choose the Island of Sado, once known for its pivotal role in the Battle of Tsushima, as the cradle for its Nest.

The efforts to repel it by Ryuto Girls’ Academy, a prestigious Garden of the Niigata Prefecture, left it all but completely devastated. And so, one of its Lilies, Sengo Yuuna, contacted her old sister in arms during the Odaiba Counteroffensive, Amano Soraha, with a request for help...

The following tale would later become known as the “Northern Expedition”, and it details the fierce battle that elevated the Second Generation Álfheimr to worldwide renown.

Revised edition

During the Assault Lily Project Conference held in November 2022, it was announced that the novel would be reworked into a "complete edition", which would contain new story segments, as well as remade, hand-drawn illustrations.[2] This version would be titled Assault Lily Glory: The Raid for the Liberation of Niigata - Complete Edition, and it was released exclusively in print form on January 27, 2023.
