[edit | edit source]
Personality
[edit | edit source]Outgoing, energetic and down to earth, Yuzuriha stands out as much more of a "typical girl" among the high-class ladies at Odaiba. Her speech and mannerisms are casual, and she addresses both her juniors and her peers equally, notably only ever using honorifics when speaking with her elders.[6] She is less reserved than other easygoing types such as Yokoyama Azusa, and is less inclined to tone down her personality in situations where a formal tone and presentation would be more adequate, sometimes to the annoyance of those who deeply value proper behavior, such as Igusa Subaru.[7]
Though Yuzuriha's down to earth quality is otherwise unseen in the Garden, she is not at all obtuse. She is noted to be of a caring, sisterly disposition,[8] and will offer herself to hear out the worries of others, particularly her juniors.[9] While she may initially come off as overtly intimate and carefree to more recluse types such as Ando Tazusa, Yuzuriha is never overbearing, and always remains consciousness of the boundaries of her conversation partners.[10] While she maintains this laid-back attitude even in the battlefield, Yuzuriha does not forgo proper competence and diligence when in combat, and will still match particularly dire situations with a more serious and focused tone.
Yuzuriha's sociability and charisma earned her a reputation both in and out of Odaiba. She is particularly popular with her juniors because of it,[11] and is admired outside of her Garden as an "Idol type" Lily, to the degree that she is constantly asked for autographs when out on Expeditions[12] and her fashion style actively influences other Lilies such as Chemir Friedheim.[13] Yuzuriha is noted to be somewhat boyish,[8] and is known to be a charmer.[14]
Her most noteworthy relationship is with Tsukioka Momiji, her childhood friend and roommate. They are often seen together, and are particularly intimate. Yuzuriha is one of the few people Momiji will slip out of her usually uptight conduct when around, sometimes borrowing her attention to air out her grievances,[15][16] as well as frequently scolding Yuzuriha for her improper manners.[17][10][7] Conversely, Yuzuriha can be very protective of Momiji. She will very quickly come to her defense even at a mere insinuation of someone contradicting her,[6] and most notably, will actively and continuously antagonize anyone who brings her harm, best shown in her longtime disdain of Funada Kiito following her abusive treatment of Momiji during junior high. This attachment can also manifest in the form of jealousy, as exemplified by her dislike of Altea Alessandrini,[18] very clearly incited due to the latter's closeness with Momiji.
History
[edit | edit source]Born in Yokohama, Tokyo[19] to a regular civilian family,[15][17] Yuzuriha boasted a high Skiller Value from her infancy,[15] something that eventually caught the attention of Odaiba Instructor Akira Blanton.[20] Yuzuriha would be admitted to Odaiba during kindergarten, in an unusual arrangement where she would not only be completely exempt from tuition fees and CHARM purchase costs, but she would also be set to be accepted as an Instructor immediately upon graduating.[15] Yuzuriha was placed as the roommate of the meek Tsukioka Momiji,[21] and the pair soon developed a close, intimate bond.
In her time as a Lily in training, Yuzuriha met and befriended Imamura Sakumi,[22] who was also lauded as one of the Garden's prodigies. The two of them gained particular attention as they were predicted to eventually awaken to the incredibly coveted Rare Skill Phantasm,[23] which would make them the first Lilies in the Garden's history to do so.[24] Sakumi, however, battled a lifelong illness, which approached its terminal stages during her and Yuzuriha's final elementary school years. Sakumi would ultimately pass away just before she could enter junior high,[25] and her death drove Yuzuriha into a desperation to awaken Phantasm, pouring every effort to make that a reality.[10][22] Despite this, however, both Momiji and Akira already suspected at this point that Yuzuriha's talents leaned in a different direction.[26]
The Funada Reserve Corps
[edit | edit source]During their third year of junior high, Yuzuriha and Momiji joined the Reserve Team known as the Funada Reserve Corps, spearheaded by the current Student Council President Funada Kiito. The pair would go on to develop a particularly tight knit friendship with Yokoyama Azusa and Hishida Haru,[27] the latter also being a close friend of the late Sakumi. The team would soon earn themselves a reputation due to their greatly effective high-performance combat style, gaining status as a world-class Reserve during their tenure.[28]
The Mutant Small-class Outbreak of Odaiba
[edit | edit source]While the Heorot Saints, Odaiba's then Top Legion, were away on a mission, a massive swarm of the Irregular Huge variant known as the Soldier Ants suddenly launched an assault in Odaiba. As the Funada Reserve Corps were on standby, they were deployed as the Garden's first line of defense. The team continued to intercept the Ants until Odaiba's CHARM testing facilities were completely evacuated, at which point their commander, Kon Kanaho, directed the Reserve to move to the building's defense. In doing so, however, they are eventually overwhelmed by the Ants' ever increasing numbers, ultimately finding themselves completely surrounded by the swarm.
Horrified at having led her teammates to their deaths, Kanaho attempted to sacrifice herself in order to create them a way through the army of Ants, but as her close friend Miyagawa Takane tried to stop her from doing so, she was caught and mauled by one of the Ants, leaving her incapacitated and worsening the Reserve's condition. With Takane injured and Kanaho tending to her wounds, the remaining members of the team are left with little choice but to continue fighting for their lives while holding onto the hope that they can eventually be rescued, something that would only happen much later, as they were eventually found by the Saints while nearly on the brink of death.
Aftermath
[edit | edit source]Though all the Reserve Corps' members escaped with their lives, this incident would mark a turning point in the team's tenure. Takane's injury left her chronically impaired, and consequently, she could no longer meet the high standards of combat performance required both by her team and Odaiba as a whole. Ultimately, she and Kanaho would step down from the Funada Reserve Corps and leave the Garden, transferring to Kamba Girls' High School for the Fine Arts. To fill their vacancies, Kiito elected Momiji and Azusa, the team's most underperforming members, to assume their positions in the Reserve's formation.
At the same time, Kiito introduced a "power-ranked training curriculum" as another step in her power-based ideological rule as the Garden's Student Council president. This training methodology, which directly contradicted Odaiba's policy of gradually nurturing their Lilies' abilities, was met with intense backlash from the Garden's students. Yuzuriha and Haru in particular were notably vocal in their opposition to Kiito's policy, not least because its unreasonable intensity further added to the constant stress felt by Momiji and Azusa after they were made to assume Kanaho and Takane's positions, the pair being reportedly being forced into "working themselves to death". Yuzuriha is quoted as having said that “we will not conform to some bullshit system that not only goes against Garden policy, but only serves to grind talent into dust.”.[6][29]
Kiito vehemently refused to withdraw her policy, further stirring her friction not only with Yuzuriha and Haru, but with Odaiba's student body as a whole. Eventually, even her closest associates in the Student Council began to oppose her methods, and as the pressure continued to increase, she would ultimately renounce her seat as President. Because several of the Reserve Corps members were also members of the Council themselves, the team would also be dissolved not long after.[30]
At an unknown point in time, Yuzuriha manifested Rainbow Path, the Subskill version of Phantasm.[31]
The Odaiba Counteroffensive
[edit | edit source]In their first year of high school, Yuzuriha, Momiji, Haru and Azusa were among the Lilies attending the multi-Garden Neunwelt Tactic Technical Conference being held in Odaiba when suddenly, a Great Cave formed over the district's Wakasu Park. From the Cave emerged a near endless horde of the same Soldier Ants they'd previously encountered as the Reserve Corps, which were soon followed by a Nestless Ultra-class Huge. Because most of the region's veteran Lilies were currently on deployment to Makuhari, the first years present in the Conference stood as Tokyo's sole line of defense against the invading Huge.
The event's host, Yurigaoka's Takegoshi Chihana, arranged the Lilies present into five teams, devising a plan to curb the Soldier Ants' advance while also advancing to exterminate the Nestless Ultra and its Great Cave. Chihana elected Yuzuriha to join her in the First Division, tasked with the final assault against the Nestless Ultra together with the Fifth Division, while Haru and Azusa were placed in the Third Division and Momiji in the Second, both of which would aid in civilian evacuations elsewhere. After a heartfelt parting with Momiji, Yuzuriha and the rest of the First Division began their initial advance towards the Nestless Ultra, battling the hordes of Soldier Ants while on their way there.
Not long after battling their way to Akatsuki Port, the First Division is reached by the Fourth Division's Tithia Paumgartner, who informs them that the Fifth Division was no longer in fighting condition, making their final attack against the Nestless Ultra no longer viable. This prompted a change in their strategy, with Chihana now having the First Division act as a diversion for the hordes of Ants surrounding the Nestless Ultra in Wakasu, allowing the Second and Third to carry out the final assault in their stead.
The First Division's efforts lead them to Uminomori Park, where a large number of Caves had formed. As Chihana relays her orders to the rest of her team, Yuzuriha notices how she had Taniguchi Hijiri and Hibino Waku, both Phantasm users, engage the Huge separately and without backup, but despite her worries, Chihana assures her that she is confident in the pair's ability to handle the Huge by themselves, and urges Yuzuriha to keep her focus on her own role, particularly noting that she must keep herself available to assist them if necessary. Yuzuriha, however, thinks to herself that as she has not yet awakened her Rare Skill, she can't be actually useful to her teammates.
Yuzuriha watches in awe as Hijiri and Waku flawlessly cut down the Huge around them, and thinks back to how she'd manifested Phantasm merely in its Subskill form, Rainbow Path. She ultimately comes to the conclusion that even if she were to awaken Phantasm by this point, she would never be able to reach the level of prowess displayed by Hijiri and Waku. Though frustrated at this realization, Yuzuriha continues to assist Waku and Hijiri in mowing down the oncoming Huge, and as she does, her Magie begins to spark. Quickly taking notice of this, Chihana restructures the whole First Division around Yuzuriha, telling her that she is on the verge of awakening her Rare Skill. Yuzuriha remains dismissive, however, not seeing how she could be of any use as she knew she wouldn't be awakening to Phantasm anyway.
Just then, the First Division is met with a swarm of Ants led by a pair of Gigant-classes, prompting Chihana to split her team into two in order to prepare for an eventual double Neunwelt Tactic. She places Yuzuriha at the very center of this strategy, and, noting how she seemed to possess "a unique marriage of both logic and intuition", urges her to reach for and embrace her true, latent ability. While still disheartened at the reality that she wouldn't be awakening to Phantasm, Yuzuriha decides to follow Chihana's advice in hopes of fulfilling hers and her teammates' expectations.
Searching for a way to be of help, Yuzuriha keeps close watch on the progress of battle, and ultimately comes to the conclusion that they need a way for Chihana's Regista to reach all the other members equally, and just as she realizes this, her Magie experiences a surge, and the other First Division members are suddenly able to push back against the Ants with much greater efficiency. Chihana tells her that she'd awakened to the Rare Skill Testament, and Yuzuriha, thinking of how all the effort she put into awakening Phantasm throughout the years was ultimately for naught, breaks down in tears for a brief moment.[32]
With Yuzuriha's Testament effectively balancing their team, the First Division prepares to carry out their first Neunwelt Tactic while Fukuyama Jeanne Sachie distracts the second Gigant-class. After successfully killing the first Gigant, Yuzuriha is finally able to embrace her Rare Skill, recalling how Momiji always believed that she'd be able to make it her own. Sachie informs them that the second Gigant-class was able to escape and is now currently moving towards Aomi, and as their first Neunwelt left the Lilies depleted of their Magie, Chihana contacts the Fourth Division and requests them to handle the runaway Gigant in their stead. In the meantime, the First Division continues to fend off the Soldier Ants in the area, though now struggling due to their low Magie.
The Lilies continue fighting strenuously against the constant outpour of Ants, eventually causing Yuzuriha, Sachie and Hijiri's CHARMs to break. Soon after Chihana repairs their CHARMs, another Gigant-class appears before the team, forcing them into performing another Neunwelt Tactic. Though they once again succeed in killing the Gigant, the team's Magie reserves are once again depleted. Worn out, the team is pushed back by the Huge to the very end of the Aomi undersea tunnel, which had been littered with Caves. The First Division fights fiercely, intent on preventing the Huge from advancing past the tunnel and reaching the civilians in Aomi, an effort that culminated in Shirai Yuyu utilizing her Divine Possession Aberration to single-handedly destroy every single Cave and Huge infesting the tunnel before collapsing. Yuyu's selflessness inspires the whole First Division to continue holding the line until the Second Division can carry out their strategy.
Though now faced with a third Gigant-class, the First Division nonetheless maintain their momentum. Suddenly, however, the swarms of Ants halt their advance and instead begin moving in unison towards the Nestless Ultra's location in Wakasu Park. While Chihana is hesitant to lead a pursuit of the Gigant-class given the First Division's exhaustion, all the other members are motivated to continue, going as far as to make plans to go out for cake after the battle is over. As the team catches up with the Gigant-class and its horde, Chihana gives Yuzuriha, Hijiri and Waku each a Magie recovery shot, revealing that Yuzuriha is likely a Linker, and that should allow Hijiri and Waku to activate their Phantasms simultaneously.
Yuzuriha, Hijiri and Waku's teamwork eliminates enough of the surrounding Ants for their Neunwelt to begin, and after firing a successful finishing shot and destroying the Gigant, the Lilies immediately begin engaging the remaining horde. Not long after, all the Ants suddenly evaporate as in the distance, the Nestless Ultra is engulfed in a massive explosion, signaling the Second and Third Divisions were successful. As the sky clears, Chihana informs the First Division that no casualties had been reported in the entire battle, and with their moods recouped, Yuzuriha beckons the other Lilies to go back and reunite with the other Divisions.
Aftermath
[edit | edit source]Yuzuriha's efforts over the course of the battle singlehandedly propelled her into the ranks of a Star Lily, as she quickly became known as a Lily who not only draws strength in others, but is capable of seeing a job through even in the most dire of circumstances. Her quickness to move past her sorrows and frustration at awakening a Rare Skill different than what she wanted was applauded,[15] with some going as far as to say the way she quickly got back on her feet is what allowed the Counteroffensive's success.[33] Chihana was just as impressed by her performance, to the point of placing Yuzuriha on Yurigaoka's future term recruiting list,[34] but despite the Kamakura Garden's constant attempts to have her join their ranks, Yuzuriha would always refuse, as her ties to Odaiba were too strong at that point.[15]
Yuzuriha, Sachie, Hijiri and Waku later came to be known as "The Quartet" (カルテット), a team described as "a shame they had to eventually come apart".[15] Yuzuriha and Hijiri became particularly close friends, as Hijiri would go on to show Yuzuriha all the positive qualities of her newly awakened Rare Skill.[10] Yuzuriha also developed a close friendship with Sachie and Yuyu, showing a particular fondness towards the latter, as Yuyu still struggled with her grief at the loss of her Schutzengel a year prior.[35]
On the other hand, Yuzuriha developed an animosity towards St. Mercurius' Altea Alessandrini shortly after the battle's conclusion.[36] Altea had been the captain of the Second Division, where Momiji had been placed, and the pair formed a bond over the course of that battle. Though Altea greeted Yuzuriha cordially, the latter was quick to antagonize her, likely out of jealousy towards Momiji, prompting Altea to respond in a similar manner, setting the tone for the pair's relationship from that point forward.[37]
Upon entering their second year of high school, Momiji and Yuzuriha were appointed as captain and vice-captain of the Heorot Saints, and as the Legion transitioned from being the Garden's Top Legion to the overseer of the Student Council[38] following Odaiba's adoption of the Instructor approval system, the pair consequently became the new president and vice-president of the council as well. Though Yuzuriha was reluctant to assume the vice-president position, Momiji was reportedly able to "convince her through tears".[16] They were joined by Saigo Kurena, a former teammate of theirs in the Funada Reserve Corps,[39] but at the same time, the combat philosophies that Yuzuriha and Momiji introduced to the Saints led to a disagreement with current members Hirose Minato and Soga Suzuna,[40][41] which culminated in the pair stepping down from the Saints in order to found a Legion of their own, the Coast Guard.[39]
Due to Haru's controversial decision to destroy Fujimi Bridge during the Counteroffensive, she had been since blacklisted from being selected for the Saints.[42] Despite this, Momiji and Yuzuriha were able to secure her a position, and both her and Azusa would also become Saints members.[43] Yuzuriha, Haru[44] and Azusa[6] would make repeated attempts to have former Reserve Corps teammate and Student Council member Kawabata Hotaru join them as well, however, she would always refuse, insisting that she would be joining the Legion Kiito would form once she returned from her year long overseas trip.
The Liberation of Niigata
[edit | edit source]Momiji would receive a personal aid request from Amatsu Marei of Ryuto Girls' Academy, requesting that the Saints join Yurigaoka's Legion Álfheimr as they set out to join Ryuto's efforts to combat the Ultra-class Huge Fafnir, one of the infamous Seven Great Ultras which had laid claim and ravaged Niigata a year prior. The Saints would be then joined by Kiito and Ui, who had returned from their overseas trip and since formed the high-performance Legion Hronesnæsse. The two Legions made their first stop in the neighbouring Tochigi Prefecture, rescuing Ryuto's Legion Kólga as they found themselves overwhelmed by several Irregular Huge while on a mission to Tochigi's Lake Chuzenji.

After arriving safely in Niigata together with Legion Kólga, the Saints joined Ryuto's Legion Dúfa as they set out to eliminate the Huge's presence from Niigata's harbor, as the Garden hoped to have a clear trajectory towards Sado island, where the Fafnir had made its Nest. While initially leading a successful offensive, the two Legions were then met with the Gigant-class Restore Orthrus. Because of its two heads, the Saints and Dúfa agree to each perform a Neunwelt Tactic, with the Saints firing their Magisphere first in order to destroy the first head while Dúfa would be tasked with finishing it off. After quickly building up their Magisphere, the Saints destroy the Orthrus's first head, and, with the aid of Haru and Hayami Katsura, Dúfa is equally successful in destroying the second. With the Gigant dead, the Saints and Dúfa were able to kill all the Huge still remaining in the port without much issue.
At the same time, Legion Hronesnæsse had returned to Lake Chuzenji with Legion Kólga, where they discovered that the master of the Nest in the Lake, the Gigant-class Cihuateteo, had since evolved into an Ultra-class. In order to properly combat the now duo of Ultra-class Huge, the Lilies devise an operation entitled "Mission Drachentöter", which would have Legion Álfheimr and the leaders of Ryuto's Legions of the Nine carry out the final assault against the Fafnir, while the Saints and Hronesnæsse were tasked with bringing down the Cihuateteo together before the two Ultra-class Huge could converge.
Stage plays
[edit | edit source]League of Gardens
[edit | edit source]Shortly before departing to Niigata,[45] Yuzuriha, Momiji, Kiito and Ui are dispatched to Shimokitazawa, Tokyo, after a sudden wave of Huge was able to gain control of the region a few days prior. Upon arriving, they reunite with Sachie, who is accompanied by fellow Ludvico Lilies Matsunaga Brigitta Kayo and Toda Eulalia Kotohi. They also once again meet with Kanaho, now the captain of Kamba's Top Legion, Gran Eple, who is herself accompanied by Aizawa Kazuha from Herensuge Institute for Girls. They learn that Yuyu would also be coming to Shimokitazawa, and while Yuzuriha and Sachie are delighted at the chance to reunite with their old friend, Kiito is dubious at having her join them, having heard rumors about Yuyu savagely turning on her own teammates. Yuzuriha clarifies that such rumors arose because her late Schutzengel, Kawazoe Misuzu, was reportedly found with scars on her body that matched Yuyu's CHARM, and Yuyu, with no memory of the incident, had lived with the guilt of having possibly killed her own Schutzengel since.
A Gigant-class Huge appears in Shimokitazawa, spawning a new swarm of minions, and just then, the mixed Garden team runs into Yuyu, who is commanding a Legion of her own. Because their own team is less cohesive, Momiji proposes that Yuyu's Legion be the ones to perform the Neunwelt Tactic against the Gigant while the rest of them take the task of keeping the area clear of other Huge. While their operation proceeds, the mixed Garden team encounters an Irregular Huge that is impervious to regular attacks due to possessing a Magie Reflector, forcing them to perform a Neunwelt of their own in order to bring it down. Meanwhile, though Yuyu's team's Neunwelt is successful, they mysteriously fail to bring the Gigant-class down, allowing it to retreat into a Cave. This incites Kiito's ire, and as she begins to admonish the team, Yuzuriha snaps back at her, noting how her lack of regard for her teammates led Kotohi to be hurt over the course of their Neunwelt.
The Lilies retreat, and upon reviewing the proceedings of Yuyu's team's Neunwelt, they ascertain that the Gigant-class was able to survive by deflecting the Magisphere with a Magie Reflector. In order to combat this, the Lilies conclude that it'll be necessary for each team to carry out a Neunwelt, with the mixed Garden team using their Magisphere to disarm the Magie Reflector for long enough for Yuyu's team to use theirs to land a lethal hit. With all Lilies in agreement, the two teams then set once the Gigant-class reappears the next day. The first team quickly make their passes, and their Magisphere succeeds in disarming the Gigant's Magie Reflector, allowing Yuyu and Hitotsuyanagi Riri to use theirs to finish off the Gigant-class Huge
The Fateful Gift
[edit | edit source]Following Ludvico Private Girls' Seminary's collapse, Yuzuriha and Sagami's Ishikawa Aoi join Sachie and her brand new Legion Ironside in culling the many Irregular Huge that escaped the Garden's annexed GEHENA lab. While fighting, the team once again crosses paths with Kiito and Ui, this time accompanied by fellow Hronesnæsse member Shiba Tomoshibi, learning from them that there have been reports of a Gigant-class among the escaped Irregulars. The mixed Garden encounters Kazuha and her Legion Hervör, as well as Kotohi, and shortly after meeting them, they detect the Gigant-class's presence, setting off together to locate it.
The team struggles to reach the Gigant-class, finding themselves overwhelmed by the multiple Huge surrounding them. Hervör's Sasaki Ran is eventually knocked down, and as Ironside's Kishimoto Lucia Raimu attempts to help her up, the pair experiences a sudden surge in their Magie as they make contact, which allows Ran to exterminate all the Huge in the vicinity.
Suddenly, the team is surrounded by a massive swarm of Huge, which includes the Gigant-class, that were attracted by Ran and Raimu's Magie outburst. The Gigant-class flies past them after briefly engaging the Lilies, and they soon meet Team Hitotsuyanagi, who were in pursuit of the Gigant. Just then, a second Gigant-class appears, and recalling their previous experience in Shimokitazawa, Kiito proposes that they will need to create at least three Magispheres in case one of the Gigants possesses a Magie Reflector. Yuyu insists that Team Hitotsuyanagi handle the first Gigant-class by themselves, and as such, Sachie divides her own team in half, with their secondary team in charge of creating a backup Magisphere.
The two teams proceed with building up their Magispheres, but before any of them are able to fire, Aoi spots a third Gigant-class with their Phantasm, something that leaves Kotohi strangely distraught. Now forced into making use both of their Magispheres, the two teams resume their Neunwelts, but as they each fire their finishing shots, only one of the Gigants is destroyed, while the second instead absorbs the Magisphere and fires it back towards Raimu and Ran, who are shielded by Kotohi. Now running low on Magie, the Lilies retreat from the battlefield, regrouping with Team Hitotsuyanagi afterwards.
Kotohi reveals to the Lilies that she'd been secretly working with GEHENA, and therefore knew of the two Gigant-class they faced, but was unaware of the third, surmising it was likely sent to ensure there'd be no witnesses to their experiment, including her. Discussing the final remaining Gigant-class, Kuroki Francisca Yuria notes how it briefly seemed to struggle with absorbing the Magisphere, and Futagawa Fumi recalls an unusual Huge they'd encountered prior which self destructed after being overloaded with attacks, concluding they might be able to defeat the Gigant in the same fashion. In order to do so, the Lilies agree to perform a Neunwelt with 16 Lilies in order to produce a Magisphere supercharged enough to overload the Gigant.
The team begins their Neunwelt, relying on Riri, Raimu and Tomoshibi's combined Charisma to keep the supercharged Magisphere stable. The sphere eventually makes its way to Yuyu, at which point she is suddenly attacked by a masked woman. The mixed Garden team works to keep the Gigant-class at bay while Team Hitotsuyanagi handles the mysterious woman, allowing them to eventually force her to retreat and clearing the path for Riri to fire the finishing shot, destroying the Gigant-class.
The Singular Ability
[edit | edit source]Yuzuriha, Kiito, Ui and Tomoshibi continue to encounter the Huge in mass while returning from their Expedition to Ludvico, several Irregulars among them, and Yuzuriha soon notices that their pattern of behavior is unusually similar to her experience during the Odaiba Counteroffensive. The four Lilies meet Legion Hronesnæsse, as well as Saints members Haru, Azusa, Kawanabe Nazuna and Suzuki Chinami as they move towards a small Cave which had gone undetected. Ui tells the other Lilies how several of the Irregular Huge they've encountered on the way are of the same variety as the ones who escaped the Ludvico Lab, theorizing that the Caves which formed near Odaiba could be the result of a GEHENA experiment.
Suddenly, the two Legions are assaulted by a Gigant-class Huge, and the Saints once again notice the similarity of its appearance to the events of the Counteroffensive. This causes a mental break in Haru, and in a fit of rage, she begins a lone advance towards the Gigant while using her Divine Possession, prompting the Saints and Hronesnæsse to switch their focus into stopping her. Haru is eventually stopped by Nagasawa Yuki and retreats from the battlefield due to breaking her CHARM, but the incident ultimately allows the Gigant-class to escape.
Though Kiito is furious, Yuzuriha and Azusa ask that she let them and the other Saints members join Hronesnæsse in hunting the Gigant down. Having identified the Gigant-class as a variant of the Gravity Manipulator that Haru's Third Division encountered in the Counteroffensive, the pair deduces that its resurgence led Haru to relive her traumatic memories of having destroyed Fujimi Bridge, adding further confirmation that the Cave had been engineered by GEHENA in order to exploit their trauma. Yuzuriha and Azusa ask that they participate in the battle in order to help Haru find closure, and Kiito acquiesces.
After tracking down the Gigant-class, Hronesnæsse and the Saints are rejoined by Haru, who now wields a provisional replacement CHARM. With Hronesnæsse carrying out the Neunwelt Tactic, the Saints take on the role of assisting their passes. Upon receiving the Magisphere, however, Haru suffers another breakdown, and begins attacking her own Saints teammates despite their attempts to reason with her. Though Kiito eventually retrieves the Magisphere from her, Haru runs off in another rage-fuelled rampage. The Funada Twins take on the role of retrieving Haru, leaving the Saints to join the remaining Hronesnæsse members in finishing the Magisphere in the trio's absence.
While making their passes, Tomoshibi is severely wounded, forcing her to retreat. Without her Laplace, the Lilies are now vulnerable to the effects of the Gravity Manipulator, which are further exacerbated by sudden, multiple strange weather phenomena, causing them to carry on their Neunwelt with great difficulty. The Lilies continue fighting nonetheless, and as they do so, Chinami's Charisma evolves into Laplace. Tomoshibi returns not long after, and now with two Laplace users, they are once again able to offset the oppressive effects of the Gravity Manipulator, allowing Hronesnæsse to finally complete their Magisphere and destroy the Gigant-class.
In the aftermath, Yuzuriha, Azusa, Nazuna and Chinami visit a recovered Haru in Odaiba's infirmary, informing her that Momiji and the other Saints members were on their way back from their Expedition to Makuhari. Kiito, Ui and Tomoshibi also arrive to visit Haru, and by Kiito's mocking requests, Yuzuriha begrudgingly thanks her for safely bringing Haru home before the Saints leave to greet Momiji's group.
The Empathy Phenomenon
[edit | edit source]The Heorot Saints deploy to neutralize one of several Caves which suddenly formed across Tokyo, and over the course of their mission, they encounter a Gigant-class Huge, prompting them to begin a Neunwelt Tactic. However, they soon realize the Gigant possesses the Dominator Skill as the high quantities of Negative Magie it emanates causes Kurena, a Lunatic Trancer user, to lose control of herself and begin madly attacking her Legion mates. While Momiji, Nazuna, Takehisa Nakaba and Hayami Katsura continue making their passes, the remaining Saints members stay back and attempt to bring Kurena under control. Initially struggling to curtail Kurena's aggression, the Saints are then joined by Minato and Kishida Hanabusa, with Minato using her Valkyrian Skirt Magie Reincarnation System to purify Kurena of the Negative Magie and bring her under control. With Kurena subdued, the Saints leave to regroup with Momiji, only to see Kiito fail to kill the Gigant-class with their Magisphere, allowing it to escape.
The next day, the Saints, Hronesnæsse and Minato participate in Igusa Subaru's mission review, where upon examining the Dominator's abilities, they deduce that Kurena was particularly vulnerable to its oppressive dispersal of Negative Magie due to being both a Boosted Lily and a Lunatic Trancer user. Kurena herself is absent from the meeting, and Momiji explains that she was left incredibly heartbroken at having attacked her own teammates, with Yuzuriha adding that she even refused to join them in training.
Kurena continues to struggle with recovering with the experience, to the point of being completely unable to fight again. At this, Yuzuriha and Momiji suggest to the Funada Sisters that they temporarily take her in as a Hronesnæsse member, as Kurena's counselor, Inaba Mayumi, surmised that by fighting alongside Kiito, who is a Singular Lily and a Lunatic Trancer user like herself, they could together spark the Empathy Phenomenon, which could assist in returning her psyche to more stable levels. Though reluctant, Kiito agrees after being persuaded by her sister, finding it opportune for them as she'd been unable to fight herself due to an injury.
After a training session, Yuzuriha, Momiji and Maruyama Amane are summoned by Yuki to meet with the Hronesnæsse members, who are discontent with how Kiito raised the intensity of their training after admitting Kurena. While Kurena had been recovering steadily in their company, the Hronesnæsse members worry that she might choose not to return to the Saints even after Ui recovers fully. The trio assures them that they fully intend to have Kurena return and have been working to offer her a better environment once she does, asking that the Hronesnæsse members bear with her for just a little longer.
Odaiba is alerted to a Cave, with the Saints, Hronesnæsse, Minato and Hanabusa deploying together to respond to it. Upon arriving, they are met with another Gigant-class Huge, which Minato identifies as the Gigafloat, an Irregular who possesses an energy shield. As such, the two Legions agree to each perform a Neunwelt Tactic, with the Saints using their Magisphere to disarm its shield while Hronesnæsse uses theirs to destroy the Huge's core. The two teams make their passes while under constant attack from the Gigant's light tentacles, and shortly after Yuzuriha receives the Magisphere, Momiji is attacked by the Gigant. Yuzuriha moves to cover her, but is knocked unconscious after blocking the hit, and the Gigafloat captures the pair, bringing them inside its shield.
Yuzuriha and Momiji are eventually rescued by the other Lilies, having sacrificed Hronesnæsse's Sphere in order to disarm the shield. Hanabusa uses her Reincarnation System to cleanse the pair from the Gigant's high concentration of Negative Magie, and Yuzuriha reveals that she was able to act quickly thanks to Nazuna's momentary activation of her Phantasm, thanking her for her help. With the Saints's Magisphere still intact, they resume their passes before regrouping with Kiito and Kurena, who had briefly departed to neutralize a second Irregular Huge. The two of them, together with Ui, Yuki, Tomoshibi, Chinami and Otake Sunao make the final passes, completing the Magisphere and allowing Kiito to destroy the Gigafloat.
After returning to the Garden, the Saints welcome the fully recovered Kurena back into their Legion. They meet with Hronesnæsse, and as Ui thanks them for having Kurena fill in for her absence, as well as apologizing for the trouble she caused, Yuzuriha takes the opportunity to sarcastically demand that Kiito be the one to apologize "as a captain should", earning her a scolding from Momiji. The two Legions are met by Minato and Hanabusa, who inform them that the previous battle was likely also the result of another GEHENA experiment, and as such, a greater level of collaboration between their three Legions will be required in the future.
The Battle to Overcome
[edit | edit source]The Saints and Hronesnæsse deploy on a joint mission, and they find that among the swaths of Huge is a peculiarly high number of the Soldier Ants, which Kiito recognizes as the very same type as the one they encountered in the Funada Reserve Corps' final battle two years prior. Upon returning to the Garden, the second years of both Legions gather for a mission review, where, noting how the Ants' swarm was even larger and stronger than their previous encounter with them in the Counteroffensive, they conclude that they likely already succeeded in colonizing Odaiba by forming a Nest. Haru further adds that, given all of them have traumatic memories with the species, it is likely that their reappearance was purposefully engineered in order to exploit that trauma.
With the events bringing back their memories of the Funada Reserve Corps, Yuzuriha, Momiji, Haru and Azusa discuss between themselves what might have been of them had the team not come apart. Yuzuriha personally doesn't think much of it, as she believes she would still clash with Kiito regardless, while Momiji ponders that, had Kanaho not left, she wouldn't have been the source of so much trouble to the rest of the team. Yuzuriha disagrees, arguing that Kiito was to blame for failing to understand that her ways were different from Kanaho's. Ultimately, Haru and Yuzuriha conclude that, as all of them were able to fully grasp their strengths after disbanding, it was for the best that the Reserve Corps came apart.
Odaiba is soon alerted to the Ants' reappearance in Wakasu Park, and as the Saints and Hronesnæsse arrive at their location, they are joined by Kanaho and Takane, who ask that they let them fight alongside them one more time. Just then, a Gigant-class variant of the Ants appears, triggering Odaiba's Light Walls' full admission mode. With all their former members present, Kiito proposes that they reform into the Funada Reserve Corps one final time in order to finally settle their score with the Soldier Ants and lay their past regrets to rest. The other Lilies agree, and the now reformed Reserve Corps takes on the role of bringing down the Gigant-class with the Neunwelt Tactic, while the remaining members of each of their composing Legions work to keep the swarm of ants at bay.
The reformed Reserve Corps begins to make their passes, and during her turn with the Magisphere, Yuzuriha reflects on her own regrets towards the team's disbandment, revealing that she did hope they would stay together and one day rise to become Odaiba's strongest Legion. Nonetheless, Yuzuriha recognizes that it was their incongruence that allowed each of them to grow, and because of it, they can fight side by side once again. After building up the Magisphere significantly, the team regroups, and as they do so, they witness the Gigant-class devour counselor Mayumi. They note that she seemed to offer herself to the Huge, and presume that she intentionally let herself be eaten in order to strengthen it, leading them to the conclusion that she was the one who engineered the Ants' outbreak.
Suddenly, the team is contacted telepathically by Mayumi, her consciousness having merged itself with the Gigant-class. Following a short argument in which Mayumi explains her beliefs and motivations, the telepathic link begins to falter before quickly ceasing entirely. The Reserve Corps members presume that the Gigant ultimately rejected her consciousness, and without much else to do, they resume making their passes in order to destroy it. The completed Magisphere is handed to Kanaho and Takane, who fire it together, destroying the Gigant Soldier Ant, but as the Ants' Nest remains active, Kiito and Ui order the remaining Corps members to aid the other Lilies in holding off the swarm of Ants while the two of them head on to destroy the Nest.
The Nest is destroyed just before the end of the Light Walls' full admission mode, and the Reserve Corps members gather to see Takane and Kanaho off as they return to Kamba. Having finally found closure for their one final regret, the Funada Reserve Corps disbands for the final time, and as Yuzuriha and Kiito return to their usual bickering, the members of each Legion accept having found their own homes in each of their different teams.
The Snowdrop
[edit | edit source]Shortly after a routine joint mission by the Saints and Hronesnæsse, the first year Lily Komai Sumire transfers into Odaiba from Ambrosia Ladies' Institute. She is greeted by Yuzuriha, Momiji, Kiito and Ui, as her high records in her previous Garden makes her eligible to join either one of the two Legions. Sumire ultimately chooses to join Hronesnæsse, appearing incredibly eager to do so, raising Yuzuriha's suspicions. Momiji is similarly put off by her sudden transfer from a Garden as prestigious as Ambrosia, and the pair bring the matter to the other Saints second years.
After discussing the matter, the second years agree to help Yuzuriha and Momiji investigate Sumire's circumstances. They recruit Nakaba and Katsura, requesting that they invite Sumire to one of the first years' tea parties and attempt to covertly extract information from her. Keeping watch from afar, the second years monitor the pair as they continuously fail to get any useful information from Sumire, a result of Katsura's awkwardness and the first years' constantly changing conversation topics. The bell rings, and as Nakaba and Katsura ultimately return empty handed, the first years contemplate how flawed their strategy was, with Momiji ultimately deciding it best to continue investigating through other means.
Later on, the Saints and Hronesnæsse deploy together as Odaiba is suddenly beset with several Caves, including one Great Cave. The two Legions arrive at the Great Cave's location, and there they learn its master to be the Cihuateteo, which had survived their previous takedown of it in Niigata due to absorbing the core of the Giant Zombie, the previous master of the Nest at Lake Chuzenji. Because of this, all the Huge spawned by its Cave possess the Undead ability, and therefore, in order to avoid needlessly wasting their Magie fighting them, the two Legions agree to ignore the larger swarm of Huge and head directly towards the Cihuateteo, only engaging the Huge in its near vicinity.
With a plan to close in on the Cihuateteo in pairs, Yuzuriha is approached by Nakaba before the pair is joined by Amane, who notes that as they are deploying as a team of eleven, the three of them should advance together. Though reluctant, Yuzuriha and Nakaba agree upon Amane's insistence, and the three of them eventually regroup with the other Lilies after moving past the horde of zombie Huge. They learn, however, that Tomoshibi and Sumire are yet to arrive, and as Kiito explains they would not be joining them soon due to personal matters, Yuzuriha snaps back at her, admonishing her for allowing them to detour from the mission when they'll require the Magie of every one of their members to ensure their success. In turn, Kiito and Ui ask for lenience, ensuring her and the others that Tomoshibi would be rejoining them eventually. Instructor Akira instructs the two Legions to each perform a Neunwelt Tactic, as the resulting explosion from the two Magispheres would cause sufficient damage to expose the Cihuateteo's core, which Akira would destroy herself.
The two Legions retreat as they begin making their passes in order to avoid the Cihuateteo's tentacles, and in spite of its extremely high concentrations of ambient Negative Magie, they are each able to build up their Magispheres by way of Chinami's Laplace. As completing the Magispheres would incur moving closer to the Cihuateteo in order to make use of its Magie Intensity, the Saints and Hronesnæsse discuss how to neutralize the Cihuateteo's nine tentacles, with Yuzuriha and Kiito once again arguing over their preferred methods before deciding on each taking down four, the final tentacle being left to Amane and Yuki together. The Saints are able to make quick work of their share and complete their Magisphere, moving to regroup with Hronesnæsse just as Sumire and Tomoshibi return. With the two Magispheres now complete, Kiito and Momiji fire their finishing shots, and as predicted, the detonation exposes the Cihuateteo's core for long enough for Akira to destroy it, neutralizing the Ultra-class.

[edit | edit source]Combat Style
[edit | edit source]A "balancer" type of Lily,[46] Yuzuriha, together with Momiji, is a cornerstone of the Saints' structure.[47][48] She boasts exceptional offensive capabilities[48] while also expertly compensating for the low defenses incurred by her Rare Skill by adopting the Perfect Evasion (完全回避) combat philosophy.[49] Though possessing advanced theoretical combat knowledge, the instructions she relays to her teammates are still precise[50] and collected, if somewhat casual.[51] Yuzuriha is a speed oriented fighter,[52] and is able to expertly handle multiple Huge and even Large-class by herself,[53] to the point where she reportedly "had never once suffered any injury from the Huge".[54] She is noted to be "good at stabbing", and her main unique CHARM, the Hrotti, was built with that style in mind.[55] Her fighting style is described as "brimming with taste", though a little self-centered.[15]
Said to have a "High Neunwelt IQ",[52] the Saints' pass exchanges center around Yuzuriha, ensuring they retain steadfast dominion over the Huge.[56] Her most notable contribution to the Saints' Neunwelt stylings is the Blitz Pass Coordination (ブリッツパス構成), an approach centered around exchanging the Magisphere at incredibly high speeds while also maintaining the Lilies on the TZ at a constant shuffling of positions.[57] Together with Momiji's Zero Top Tactic, the Blitz Passes would become foundational to the Saints' approach to the Neunwelt following the Odaiba Counteroffensive.[40] Yuzuriha is also noted to be an expert in "off the Sphere" support moves,[58] and during the Neunwelt, she primarily takes the right side, overwhelming the Huge in coordination with the Saints' three AZs.[15]
Yuzuriha is a Linker, and possesses the Subskills Rainbow Path, Whole Order, Awakening and Invisible One. The complete combination of these Skills with her Rare Skill Testament are said to make her a "near perfect Linker".[4]

[edit | edit source]Yuzuriha's action doll, titled "Assault Lily Series No.49: Takehisa Nakaba", was released in April 2019. It featured four swappable faceplates, her unique variation of the Odaiba Girls' School uniform (including the Student Council cloak), and Battle Cloth pieces for the hands and waist. The CHARM included with the doll was the Gungnir.[59]
The doll was re-released in July of 2021, with the only major change being a remodel of the Battle Cloth pieces.[60]

Trivia
[edit | edit source]- Though not outright confirmed, it is greatly implied that Yuzuriha and Momiji have taken the Blood Oath, Odaiba's pact of sisterhood, with each other.[70][71]
- Despite her refusal to leave Odaiba for Yurigaoka, the Garden is still steadfast on acquiring her one way or another to this day, even if only as an Instructor.[72]
- Yuzuriha is known to be a fashionable Lily.[73] She seems to be a fan of outfit styling in general,[17] keeping a close eye on current trends, though not limiting herself to wearing only expensive clothing.[15] The Lily Topics magazine once had a feature centered on her style.[74]
- Futagawa Fumi theorizes that Matsunaga Yui could have adopted her asymmetrical socks style after seeing Yuzuriha's magazine feature.[75] Likewise, Tsujimoto Yunagi could have also been influenced by her style.[68]
- Yuzuriha will often spend long periods of time in other girls' rooms, and so is almost never found in her own dorm room.[17][15]
- Yuzuriha reportedly had long hair at one point in the past.[76]
