Kusakabe Rengetsu

From Assault Lily Wiki

Kusakabe Rengetsu (日下部蓮月) is a first year Lily who attends Irma Girls' High School for the Arts. She is a member of Legion Irminshines.

Personality

[edit | edit source]

Rengetsu is lively, strong-willed, and confident, very different from her twin sister, Murasame. Where Murasame is timid and cowardly, Murasame keeps her safe and protected, each relying on the other in a certain way.

There are many who liken Rengetsu to Amano Soraha, not just in terms of personality, but also her physical capabilities and magie capacity as well. She even takes reference from Soraha on how to fight[1]

History

[edit | edit source]

At an early age, the Irmin-Lillian Lab determined both Murasame and Rengetsu were likely to develop Charisma. As Irma is a Garden that places emphasis on the BZ in Neunwelt formations, this put the twins squarely in their sights—they believed it important to cultivate the twins, giving them strong education and training to help them develop their talent as Lilies.

After the twins entered Irma however, their differences became apparent. Where Murasame was timid, Rengetsu was bold. She also had excellent reflexes, and was interested in practicing martial arts. Her initial valuations as a Lily was exceedingly high, and with the assumption she'd develop Charisma, Rengetsu was well received by Garden faculty. Murasame, meanwhile, was barely able to hold a CHARM much less fight due to her timid nature. Rengetsu was all too willing to protect her sister of course, but this caused a shift in their development. Namely in that while Murasame did in fact awaken to Charisma, Rengetsu awakened to Heliosphere instead.

Just like that, the expectations of the twins flipped, with Murasame now earning the recognition while Rengetsu was left behind. Murasame was even picked to headline for Irma's top legion, Irminshines, while Rengetsu herself was not. This led to Rengetsu becoming depressed, her otherwise unassailable confidence shaken. It was later discovered that Murasame needed Rengetsu to be able to fight at all, and thus was Rengetsu brought into Irminshines as well, which did not really help the situation much—after all, she was only there because of Murasame, not her own talents.

After the battle at Oshima, when it became apparent that Helisophere's Consecration effect would have an outsized importance going forward, it's believed that the Garden's appraisal of Rengetsu will change before long.

Combat Style

[edit | edit source]

Rengetsu normally is positioned as center BZ, but often will charge all the way up to the AZ. Irma's culture as a Garden places extreme emphasis on the "form" of fighting (i.e., its aesthetics and structure) so Rengetsu often gets chewed out by Nishikawa Miharu, the Irminshines captain, for violating this ideal. Despite this, when she moves up she's extremely effective fighting alongside Hibino Waku, so there's otherwise few who complain.

Relationships

[edit | edit source]
  • Kusakabe Murasame: Twin sister; Murasame calls her "Oneechan" or "Ren-nee" while Rengetsu calls her "Murasame" with no honorifics.
  • The Kusakabe twins have an unnamed younger sister[2]

From Irma Girls' High School for the Arts:

  • Hibino Waku: Friends. Rengetsu makes an excellent support for Waku in combat, and they maintain a high level of coordination. More than that, though, they're quite alike in their bright personalities.
  • Ueda Imari: Friends. When Rengetsu wasn't picked for Irminshines, Imari supported her while she depressed. "One failure and you're depressed? That's not like you at all, Ren!"
  • Shinoda Mioko: Rather taken with Rengetsu

Trivia

[edit | edit source]
  • When feeling cocky or trying to pump herself up, Rengetsu switches to referring to herself in the third person with, "Ren-chan."
  • Rengetsu prefers martial arts that focus on joint locks and kicks[3]
  • Rengetsu plays the accordion
