Yoshii Kasumiko

Yoshii Kasumiko (吉井霞子) is a third year Lily who attends Irma Girls' High School for the Arts. She is a member of Legion Irminshines, serving as a reserve member.

Personality

Kasumiko, as a third year Lily, is afforded natural respect from those younger than her, but even without this, she herself is greatly respected. Not just at Irma, but broadly across Japan as well. Her personality can be described as "lovable," being both sweet and kind, while also being fiercely protective of her junior Lilies.

History

Though she joined Irma and became a Lily from a young age, Kasumiko's focus was not so much on being a Lily, but rather on receiving an arts education, which Irma is well-known for. This changed rather abruptly during the Kiyosumi-Shirokawa Defense, in particular the Irma Campus Defense Battle, which occurred when she was only a first year in high school. Many died in that conflict, civilians included. Though she survived, given the death toll, and the fact that Lilies younger than her in middle school were more useful than she was, she had no choice but to admit fault in her own ineptitude.

During that same conflict, when Ludvico came to Irma's aid, Kasumiko met Nosaka Jacqueline Kazane and Kishimoto Maria Mirai, Lilies the same age as her. The three of them would quickly become friends. When they learned of Kasumiko's oath to become the greatest AZ Lily, both Kazane and Mirai helped her, which led to her rapid growth.

This growth commanded great respect when, a year later, the Makuhari Recapture campaign began. Kasumiko took a central role in laying the groundwork for that conflict. Having become student council president of Irma at the time, her personality and esteem of office earned the respect of Lilies from across Japan. In particular, she fought to defend the supply lines being established against Huge attacks, and here she met Izue Shinobu, another Lily the same age as her.

Due to their own circumstances, Kazane and Mirai would both die before the Makuhari battle could begin in earnest. This was shocking enough to Kasumiko that, when Legion Irminshines was deployed to the front lines of Makuhari, she abandoned her oath to become "the greatest AZ Lily" and instead took on a TZ/BZ role with that legion. She was only able to participate due to Irma's Magnificent Four being embroiled in their own issues, preventing them from being appointed to the legion, as per top legion rules.

However, Hidai Miyazu, Irminshines' ace Lily, was known to have been critical of her joining the legion, saying, "Irminshines doesn't need someone as inept as Kasumiko-sama." Kasumiko nevertheless focused on the battle before them, even going so far as to declare that she would resign from being student council president and quit Irminshines afterwards. Despite Kasumiko taking command of the legion and facing down ten Greater Large Huge and two irregular Gigant Huge, Miyazu, then only a first year Lily, still wouldn't accept her.

Then came the final battle of the campaign. Irminshines executed a Neunwelt Tactic, only for them to lose control of their magiesphere right before the finish shot could be delivered. With everything on the line, Kasumiko dove into the middle of a mass of small-type Huge, taking horrendous injuries as she did so. But she caught the sphere, and then passed it to Miyazu, who struck the final blow against the Gigant. The Nest then fell, and the Makuhari Recapture was all but won. Miyazu apologized to Kasumiko, saying that in truth, without her, they would have lost well before the final battle. Her mind changed, Miyazu began to admire Kasumiko like many others did.
