Ueda Imari

Ueda Imari (上田伊万里) is a first-year Lily who attends Irma Girls' High School for the Arts. She is a member of Legion Hakolberand.

Personality

Though she's the daughter of the CEO of one of the world's premier CHARM makers, Imari was raised as a down-to-earth girl who doesn't flaunt her wealth; she even wears the same clothes as everyone else. She cares deeply about her friends, to the point that she became a Lily with Hirotsu Yuzutsu in mind, and never allows others to speak ill of those like Miwada Rito.

While she will stand up for her friends, Imari is sensitive to comments about her own self, and in the past, she often acted rashly because of things that were being said about her. She has an artistic spirit and originally dreamed of becoming a sculptor.

History

Imari's Childhood

Imari was born in the Kiyosumi-Shirakawa neighborhood of Tokyo. Her father is the CEO of Hihiirokane International, and her mother was a famous Lily. As a young child, she did not show any interest in being a Lily, and her parents respected her wishes and had her educated at a normal school. It was at this time that Imari took an interest in art, specifically sculpture. She also made a close friend, Hirotsu Yuzutsu.

Soon, Imari's Skiller Value began to rise, and she decided that it was her responsibility to become a Lily. She decided to enroll in Irma, a Garden close to her home which also provided artistic education.

One of Imari's motivations for going to Irma was her timid friend Yuzutsu, who also had a high Skiller Value, but was scared to become a Lily; she told Yuzutsu "I'll fight as a Lily so that you can spend your life growing flowers, Yuzutsu." However, when she realized this meant Imari would be going somewhere far away, Yuzutsu wailed "Don't leave me behind, Imari-chan!" and hugged her tight. Yuzutsu then decided to become a Lily at Irma along with Imari.

Elementary and Junior High

As a Lily in the making, Imari was often compared by others to Ishikawa Aoi, with whom she shares the common point of having a father who's a CHARM manufacturing executive. This comparison made her self-conscious, and she wasn't able to focus on any one aspect of training. Sometimes she even avoided combat training entirely, focusing on sculpture instead. She developed a reputation as a jack of all trades and master of none; this wasn't in keeping with others' expectations of her as the daughter of a famous Lily, a fact that she was keenly aware of.

One of the only Lilies to compliment Imari during this time was Kamigoori Marimo, who told her, "You've got good instincts." Marimo had few friends, as it was widely known she was a Boosted Lily and most people at Irma felt she was strange, but Imari began to talk to her more. Marimo told Imari about her dream of fighting in an aggressive legion, and by thinking about how she could help Marimo, Imari was finally able to decide which kind of Lily she wanted to be.

As a second-year in junior high school, Imari fought together with Yuzutsu in the Defense of Irma, Kiyosumi-Shirakawa Campus. Her admiration for Marimo only grew when, during this battle, Marimo used her resilience as a Boosted Lily to shield the other students.

Establishing Hakolberand

After Ichinomiya Michaela Himari left Irma because she felt it was impossible to realize her ideal way of fighting at the Garden, Marimo chose to defy Irma's traditions and establish the legion that Himari, and Marimo herself, had dreamed of. Although she holds no official title in Legion Hakolberand, Imari is considered to be the legion's central figure. She handles all the things that Marimo, the captain, isn't good at.

Following Hakolberand's official recognition by the Garden, in appreciation of Imari's efforts, Marimo took the Crownshine Oath with her and the two exchanged bracelets.

Combat Style

Imari is an exceptionally skilled duelist and Circlet Bless user, and is key to Hakolberand's use of the Neunwelt Tactic. She wields her unique Kutune Shirka in one hand and a Charlemagne in the other, practicing the same balanced combat style as Fukuyama Jeanne Sachie and Rokkaku Shiori.

Relationships

From Irma Girls' High School for the Arts:

• Kamigoori Marimo: Oath partner. She helped Marimo establish her ideal legion, Hakolberand
• Hirotsu Yuzutsu: Childhood friend. Yuzutsu relies on Imari emotionally
• Kusakabe Murasame: Close friend. Because Imari's earnest personality resembles her sister Rengetsu's, Murasame also thinks as Imari as a sister to some extent
• Kusakabe Rengetsu: Friend. When Rengetsu initially didn't make the cut for Legion Irminshines, Imari comforted her
• Miwada Rito: Self-proclaimed rivals. Despite their rivalry, Imari thinks Rito is a good person, Rito respects Imari's abilities, and they work well in battle together

• Kaede Johan Nouvel: Friends, due to both of them having parents who work at CHARM manufacturers
• Imai Seira: Has met her before, through their parents

Trivia

• Imari's musical instrument, as required of all Irma students, is the kalimba. She also has a hobby of collecting kalimbas.
• According to Toki Kureha, Imari is popular at Irma and gets a lot of chocolate on Valentine's Day.
