Iwaya Kukuri
Iwaya Kukuri (巌谷紅々李) is a first year Lily who attends Irma Girls' High School for the Arts. She is a member of Legion Irminshines, and is also the current student council president of Irma.
Personality
[edit | edit source]Kukuri is highly intelligent, and also driven to do the right thing. At times she's so driven by that ideal that she can fail to consider a situation fully and ends up making mistakes. She's best known for her blunt personality and sharp tongue, speaking frankly and critically of others. While this may make her come off as rude, her actual motivation is in desiring for everyone to be their best.
History
[edit | edit source]There were no lofty ideals for Kukuri when she became a Lily. As she was born in Kiyosumi-Shirakawa itself, where Irma's campus is located, her only desire was to protect her home. As the only means to do that meaningfully was to become a Lily, that's what she did. She didn't join to bring glory to her Garden, Irma. Nor did she want to become student council president. She dedicated herself to her studies and her training, to the point that today she's thought to be the "finest example" of an Irma Lily.
During middle school, Irma doesn't typically assign students to accompany legions until their third year, but at times was able to accompany them anyway. While they were on deployment for the Makuhari Recapture however, she was not accompanying them, and thus was able to throw herself into the Kiyosumi-Shirakawa defense battle. It was here that she became enamored with Moroi Saho, a Lily a year older than her, who fought with grace, elegance, and ferocity in defending the school and the younger Lilies.
When Kukuri was in her third year of middle school, the Magnificent Four's split occurred. In the wake of it, the majority of Irma's student body split into the "Himari faction" (those who wanted to adopt the combat innovations Ichinomiya Michaela Himari and Hibino Waku experienced during the Odaiba Counteroffensive) and the "Miharu faction" (those who wanted to uphold Irma's traditional methods of fighting). This division continued all the way into Kukuri's first year of high school, and it was there that Kukuri, who leaned to neither faction and stayed out of it, was elected as student council president, despite her having no aspirations for the role.
Kukuri's goal was to protect her home and that was all. But suddenly, due to her exemplary ability as a Lily, and her lack of factional alignment, she was made to be student council president when that should have fallen to Nishikawa Miharu. Moreover, Kukuri saw the current Legion Irminshines as being dysfunctional, left uncertain of how to fight after Himari left. Moreover, Saho wasn't in Irminshines, and she blamed that on the split as well. Though Kukuri accepted the position of president, saying she'd do it "until a replacement could be found," she quickly grew too frustrated with what she saw as injustice and incompetence, and wanted to step down.
It was then that Saho would suggest she take time to train with the girls of Odaiba Girls' School, to gain perspective. Kukuri was withdrawing from others, becoming even more cynical and acerbic, and so Saho thought it necessary for her to understand that "no Lily fights alone." Kukuri, greatly admiring Saho and wanting to take her advice, did just that. And of course, when she saw that even those who apparently disliked each other could fight side by side in perfect sync, she was moved. When she returned to Irma, she resumed her duties as student council president, and joined Irminshines officially.
Relationships

- Moroi Saho: Kukuri respects and also is greatly drawn to Saho after witnessing her performance at the Kiyosumi-Shirakawa Irma campus defense battle.
- Nakabayashi Kaina: A fellow student council member, they get along well.
- Nishikawa Miharu: Kukuri is frustrated by the fact that Miharu couldn't take over the student council president position due to what happened between the Magnificent Four.
- Hidai Miyazu: Strangely, their strategic mindsets are compatible, and they seem to get along decently as people, too.
From Odaiba Girls' School:
- Tsukioka Momiji: They're on good terms, and respect one another as student council presidents as well.
- Hishida Haru: They get along well.
- Takehisa Nakaba: Friendly with one another.
From Yurigaoka Girls' Academy:
- Kanabako Misora: They're acquaintances, and they get along well.
- Nagasaka Maho: Whenever Misora gets flamed on social media, Maho and Kukuri are expected to show up to support her, which tends to make it worse; Kukuri is acquainted with Maho.
From Ludvico Private Girls' Seminary:
- According to Fumi[1], Kukuri is on good terms with all of the Ludvico student council legion.
Trivia

- Kukuri's elective instrument is the violin.
