Ando Tazusa
“ | We're both monsters, so let's get along, shall we? | ” |
—Tazusa speaking to one of the Huge |
Ando Tazusa (安藤鶴紗) is a Lily who attends Yurigaoka Girls' Academy. She is a member of Team Hitotsuyanagi. Her Schutzengel is Yoshimura Thi Mai[2].
Personality[edit | edit source]
As a result of her traumatic past, Tazusa is naturally distrustful and suspicious of others, and can seem cold. However, she values those friends she has fiercely and has unshakable faith in those who have earned it. She feels that she isn't good at choosing the right words and is not very talkative, even among friends.
She tends to forget herself upon seeing anything cute, and can experience a complete personality reversal in the presence of cats in particular.
History[edit | edit source]
Tazusa was born in Shizuoka, Japan.
She is the daughter of Ando Soitsu, one of the most adept male CHARM users in the early days of anti-Huge resistance. After returning from the Antarctic Campaign, which had a fatality rate of over 90%, he became known as one of the heroes of Antarctica. He soon married a Lily who had also survived the Antarctic campaign (her name has been expunged from publicly-available records) and had a daughter, Tazusa, with her.
After his return from Antarctica, Ando Soitsu began to advocate for caution against GEHENA. He also enlisted in the JSDF, but rather than being given a command post, he was ordered to take charge of reinforcements marching to the contested areas.
Soitsu brought his reinforcements to Shizuoka—at the time the front line against the Huge—and found an unusual buildup of enemy forces was occurring there. Finding the situation eerily reminiscent of when an Ultra-class had appeared during the Antarctic Campaign, he insisted that the local civilians should be evacuated and the military, too, should fall back. His judgment as one of the heroes of Antarctica held some weight, so it was given due consideration by the top brass, but ultimately they chose not to retreat.
Shizuoka was assaulted by a massive horde of Huge shortly afterwards. Soitsu attempted to lead a withdrawal, but instead, the local defense forces mounted a reckless counterattack and were completely annihilated. He remained at the front line long after it was broken and eventually died in battle.
Following the incident, Ando Soitsu was accused of being a traitor who had thrown Shizuoka's defenses into confusion and blamed for the entire defeat. Wild rumors spread that he had even been sympathetic towards the Huge, in a truly tragic fate for one of the heroes of Antarctica.
After the death of Ando Soitsu, his daughter, Tazusa, was found to have an unusually high Skiller Value. GEHENA took custody of her under the pretext of protection. During the time they held Tazusa captive, she was forcibly made into a Boosted Lily.
Yurigaoka saw this as a problem; they mounted a successful operation (carried out by Legion Rossweisse and other legions) to rescue Tazusa from GEHENA, and have protected her ever since. Takamatsu Shiera, the chairwoman of Yurigaoka, and her younger brother Takamatsu Kogetsu once fought side by side with Ando Soitsu, and rumor has it that this is part of the reason that Yurigaoka came to Tazusa's aid[3].
Doll pamphlet[edit | edit source]
Tazusa's background, as described in the pamphlet included with her doll[4], differs significantly from that given in the Special Feature on Radgrid. According to the pamphlet:
- Tazusa was born in Tokyo, not Shizuoka.
- Ando Soitsu was involved with the "Shizuoka-Yamanashi Evacuation", not Shizuoka specifically.
- After Soitsu's death, Tazusa's mother committed suicide.
- Takamatsu Shiera personally arranged for Tazusa to be freed from the GEHENA lab, and did so through political means rather than having Yurigaoka legions rescue her.
- GEHENA continues to exert their own political influence to force Tazusa to do missions for them, claiming it is necessary to monitor her physical condition.
- Tazusa fights very recklessly, since it isn't a problem for her even if her limbs get sliced off; she can just regenerate them.
- Tazusa's fighting style is extraordinarily reminiscent of the one Ando Soitsu used when he was young. According to Yoshizaka Nagisa, "it's like Soitsu's come back from the dead."
The doll pamphlet additionally mentions that Tazusa knew Kuo Shenlin and Takahata Masaki while at Yurigaoka's junior high school, and was friends with Masaki until she transferred.
Anime/game[edit | edit source]
Last Bullet[edit | edit source]
Blue Strike of the Soulmates[edit | edit source]

Tazusa notices during Team Hitotsuyanagi's expedition to Kyushu that Shenlin and Yujia are acting distant towards each other, and tries to convince Shenlin to make up with Yujia, but is unsuccessful.
When Shenlin goes on her own to fight the leviathan Huge, Tazusa follows her and helps Yujia save Shenlin from its counterattack. After Shenlin runs away, Tazusa feels sad that she doesn't know the right things to say to comfort Shenlin, and encourages Yujia to go and find Shenlin on her own to talk things through.
During the final battle, Tazusa guards Shenlin and Yujia from the attacking hordes as they prepare to fire Moyu's particle cannon at the leviathan Huge.
Oath of Reconnection[edit | edit source]
At the end of the story chapter, Yoshimura Thi Mai asks Tazusa to take the Schutzengel's Oath with her and become her Schild, and Tazusa accepts. The two of them vow that they will stay by each other's side forever[2].
Combat Style[edit | edit source]
Tazusa normally fights in the AZ and, along with Shirai Yuyu, is one of Team Hitotsuyanagi's main attackers.
Tazusa's combat style is known as "speed-type Phantasm." It uses Phantasm to predict the enemy's reactions and overwhelm them with rapid attacks and sheer mobility[5]. In addition to relying upon her Rare Skill, this combat style wouldn't be possible if she weren't also extremely adroit with her CHARM[4].
Family[edit | edit source]
Tazusa's father, Ando Soitsu (安藤総逸), was once a hero of the Antarctic Campaign but is now considered a traitor. Takamatsu Shiera has stated that she would like to reclaim his honor.
The identity of Tazusa's mother is unknown. It has been deliberately erased from all of the records that Futagawa Fumi was able to locate, and none of the few remaining survivors of Antarctica will speak of the matter[3].
In Contrast of the Twin Stars, the name of Tazusa's mother was suggested to be 若紫 (pronunciation unclear, possibly Wakamurasaki.)
