Igarashi Bernadetta Sumire

Igarashi Bernadetta Sumire (五十嵐・ベルナデッタ・すみれ) is a first-year Lily who attends Ludvico Private Girls' Academy. She is often together with Hojo Monica Asahi and Horie Agata Yukino.

Personality

Despite often being in the company of the haughty Asahi and Yukino, Sumire struggles with self-confidence, and is scared to deploy to the battlefield. However, she maintains a smug facade due to the pair's influence, and as she genuinely believes Asahi to be the number one prodigy amongst the first years, she sees Narumi Clara Yuko as her rival.

Schwester's Oath

Sumire visits Class B together with Asahi and Yukino, taunting Clara and her classmates for not being chosen for their Class A, and mocking Kishimoto Lucia Raimu after she expresses her desire to take the Schwester's Oath with a senior. Later, when Ludvico receives a report of a Cave during its Easter Festival, Instructor Kosaka Anastasia Ryoko invites the first year Lilies to join her Cheering Squad, wishing to prevent them from deploying to the battlefield. Asahi is initially reluctant, believing she'll be chosen to integrate the Temple Legion, but after Raimu is appointed as the final member, Asahi begrudgingly decides to join Ryoko, with Sumire and Yukino following her lead.

After Asahi is eventually selected to join the Temple Legion, she, Yukino and Sumire once again visit Class B, where Asahi boldly proclaims that she'll likely take Amamiya Sophia Seren's place, as they share both Rare Skill and Zone. After taunting Seren for her failed attempts to become Kuroki Francisca Yuria's Schwester, Asahi proposes that she and Seren compete, with the first to take the Schwester's Oath with the strongest Lily they can winning the chance to become Clara's.

Later, Asahi, Sumire and Yukino join Class B in discussing Raimu's Rare Skill, Charisma, with Asahi smugly remarking that having a strong Rare Skill is meaningless if she cannot use it properly. Clara then fires back at Asahi, informing her that she had lost her contest with Seren, but Asahi surprisingly accepts her defeat, and the pair make amends. Fearing that Raimu will continue to be targeted by Caves, Hasegawa Gabriella Tsugumi encourages the other first years to become strong enough to fight by her side, with all of them in agreement.

Behind the Scenes

Sumire appears exclusively in the recap performance Schwester's Oath, always appearing together with Asahi and Yukino in the same way Clara is always followed by Nagase Marta Nonoka and Hanaoka Angela Moe (Kagami Agnes Mio, in this play). Sumire has the fewest lines among the three, and essentially serves as a background character. Notably, however, neither Sumire nor Yukino appear in the original Schwester's Prayer and Schwester's Secret, and in Volume 03 of the Assault Lily Magazine, a special feature on Ludvico, Asahi's bio stated that she "does not have many friends".

Trivia

• Sumire's confirmation name, "Bernardetta", is a female variation of the name "Bernard", which could refer to one of multiple Catholic Saints known as Saint Bernard, with the most notable among them being Saint Bernard of Menthon, who famously inspired the name of the dog breed "St. Bernard."
