Hanaoka Angela Moe

Hanaoka Angela Moe (花丘・アンジェラ・萌) is a first-year Lily who attends Ludvico Private Girls' Academy. She is a member of the Garden's Top Legion, the Temple Legion, and a recurring character in the Ludvico series of stage plays, playing a major role in White Resistance ~The Promise's Path~. She is often together with Narumi Clara Yuko and Nagase Marta Nonoka.

Personality

Similar to her friends Clara and Nonoka, Moe is very girly, and will often fawn over other Lilies she deems noteworthy. However, unlike the confrontational Clara or the eccentric Nonoka, Moe appears much more reserved, earnestly wishing to become a strong Lily in her own merit. Moe is easily influenced by the words of those around her, and due to often being criticized for her inexperience, sometimes even by her own friend Clara, she was never quite able to match her aspirations with actual potential.

Because of this, Moe appears to struggle with self worth, something best exemplified when she awakened of the highly uncommon Rare Skill Phantasm. Having earned the recognition of Ichinomiya Michaela Himari, whom she greatly admires, the usually reserved Moe became highly overconfident, to the point of suggesting that Clara undo her vows as Himari's Schwester during a heated argument. However, after she failed to properly perform the Neunwelt Tactic when fighting together with Himari, Moe's confidence immediately turned to depression, berating herself for being unable to live up to the second year's expectations.

Like Nonoka, she hopes that Clara and Amamiya Sophia Seren one day become a couple.

Schwester's Prayer

Nonoka, together with Clara and Nonoka, joined Kishimoto Lucia Raimu and Amamiya Sophia Seren in Class B, explaining to the clueless Raimu the workings of the Schwester System with Nonoka. During the first years' first training session, she was under Ichinomiya Michaela Himari's supervision, frantically evading the dummy Huge in a panic. After Himari praises Seren's performance, Moe attempts to shadow her, seeking to gain Himari's attention.

During Ludvico's Easter Festival, Moe joined her fellow first years in egg hunting, though only finding eggs left by Instructor Ryoko. Following the appearance of a Cave at Ludvico's cemetery, Maria's Hill, Moe and Nonoka commemorate Clara and Seren being chosen to integrate the Temple Legion together. Moe and Nonoka, as well as Hojo Monica Asahi and Hasegawa Gabriella Tsugumi, would later join Ryoko's Cheering Squad.

Schwester's Secret

Moe was present with her fellow first years when Clara challenges Asahi for a duel, warning her friend that fighting amongst students was punishable by detention. Moe and Nonoka would later hurriedly search for Himari, who now was Clara's Schwester, to tell her of the pair's duel as it started.

After Tsugumi is chosen to integrate the Temple Legion for the second time, Moe and Nonoka once again join Ryoko's Cheering Squad together with Haneda Catalina Mei and Saeki Julia Karen in order to cheer her on.

White Resistance ~The Promise's Path~

During a routine training session, Moe approaches Himari, asking to train under her once again, to which Himari agrees, leaving Clara perplexed. As they train, Himari continuously corrects Moe's bad fighting form, leaving her discouraged after Himari praises Clara's performance. Like the other first years, Moe is saddened after being continuously scolded during training. Clara approaches Moe and angrily voices her displeasure at being joined by her in training under Himari, remarking that she'll "never get the chance to join [Himari] in real combat anyways", causing Moe to become even more depressed. On Tsugumi's encouragement, Moe and the other first years agree to practice by themselves after classes.

Moe once again has Himari personally train her, with the second year remarking that she has greatly improved since their previous session. The pair is approached by Matsunaga Brigitta Kayo, who attempts to warn Himari of the danger she faces as a potential ambush target for GEHENA. Himari assures Kayo that she has taken the necessary precautions, but as the trio begin to make their way to the Garden, they are suddenly ambushed by a Cave, immediately surrounding them with multiple Huge.

Kayo leaves to retrieve her CHARM and call for backup while Moe and Himari hold their ground, however, Moe continuously struggles to take down the Huge around her, mostly relying on Himari's protection. They're joined by Kuroki Francisca Yuria, who takes to drawing the Huge's attention while Himari and Moe make their escape. The pair is able to reunite with the other members of the Temple Legion, and they are surrounded by three Large-class Huge. Himari shields Moe from one of their attacks, causing her to be knocked down, with the other Temple Legion members being equally overwhelmed as Moe is only able to stand and watch.

With the Temple Legion down, one of the Large-class closes in on Himari, and in her panic, Moe suddenly awakens to the Rare Skill Phantasm, allowing the Temple Legion to immediately repel the Huge in the area. Himari is left in awe of Moe's Rare Skill, as Phantasm is one of the cornerstones of the ideal fighting style she longs for, and so, she promises to personally ensure Moe becomes a fine Lily, so they can fight side by side. Clara, however, is greatly bothered by this, prompting her to run away from the battlefield without saying a word.

After Fukuyama Jeanne Sachie declares her intentions to form a new Legion, Raimu and Seren attempt to invite their classmates to join them. Moe refuses, citing how she might eventually integrate the Temple Legion, as she is now Himari's personal student. Clara snaps at her, attempting to blame Moe for holding back Himari during their previous battle, and downplaying her Rare Skill due to Moe's inexperience in combat. Unlike before, however, Moe does not back down, reminding Clara of how it was Himari who declared her intentions of training her, ultimately telling Clara that, if she cannot respect her Schwester's decisions, then she should annul her vows with her. Hurt by her words, Clara attempts to join Raimu and Seren's new Legion out of spite, but Asahi sees through her intentions, and urges her to stay by Himari's side. Feeling betrayed by her friends, Clara leaves in tears, while Tsugumi tells Moe that she had gone too far.

Following the appearance of a Cave, Moe immediately joins Himari as she is deployed, who agrees to bring her along, confident that she'll be chosen for the Temple Legion after awakening to her Rare Skill. Moe is eventually selected, and the Temple Legion assembles. As they perform the Neunwelt Tactic, however, Moe is unable to properly handle the Magisphere, causing it to be lost. Saddened, Moe stands back as the remaining members of the Temple Legion perform a second Neunwelt together with Legion Ironside.

In the aftermath, Moe skips her scheduled training with Himari, feeling incredibly depressed for failing her in the battlefield. Clara, who had overcome her insecurities, tells Moe that she ought to be ready to improve from her mistakes. Clara then offers to train Moe so that she is better prepared to join Himari, and as her first lesson, Clara has Moe carry her weighted stuffed bear, Kumama. Greatly struggling to walk upright with Kumama on her back, Nonoka wonders if Moe will be alright, but Asahi responds that Moe needs a teacher as strict as Clara.

White Resistance ~The Blade of Truth~

Moe is once again selected for the Temple Legion as they are deployed to neutralize a Gigant-class, this time successfully performing a Neunwelt Tactic together with Ludvico Instructor Makabe Melania Sayoko, as the formation of Legion Ironside meant not enough Lilies in the Garden are powerful enough to integrate the Temple Legion. Later, Moe once again joins Clara in training under Himari, and Moe is overjoyed after Himari praises her performance for the first time, thanking Clara for taking the time to train with her every day. Asahi watches over the pair as they train, saddened that she no longer has a place by Clara's side.

Moe once again joins the Temple Legion after a Gigant-class appears near Ludvico, joining Legion Ironside in performing a Neunwelt Tactic. But as they do so, they notice that the Gigant-class is accompanied by the previously deceased Nosaka Jacqueline Kazane, who promptly steals the Magisphere from Moe, firing it against the Lilies. The Gigant-class flees, and the Temple Legion and Ironside follow in pursuit while Sano Matilda Kokoro retrieves a second Neunwelt bullet from the Garden.

Upon Kokoro's return, the two Legions begin another Neunwelt, but before they can destroy the Gigant-class, they are ambushed by Sayoko and Instructor Toride Suzanne Reika, who were aides of GEHENA. After the Lilies refuse to comply with their demands, the two Instructors disable the protective barrier surrounding Ludvico, causing a Great Cave to form over the Garden and allowing the Huge to directly attack its facilities in large numbers. And so, Moe joins the Temple Legion (minus Himari and Nagisa) as they move out to defend the Lilies still in the Garden, together with Ironside members Takatori Natalie Towa and Li Christina Susu.

The Bond with the White Rose

While fighting the Huge surrounding Ludvico's campus, Clara and Moe end up isolated from the other members of the Temple Legion, fighting by themselves against multiple Irregular Huge which broke free from GEHENA's Ludvico Labs. The pair is eventually able to regroup with Karen and Asahi, but unable to establish communications with Himari's group due to the high concentration of Negative Magie in the area, the four continue their efforts to aid the evacuation of the Lilies within Garden premises, in hopes that Himari would join them eventually.

However, their Magie reserves begin to run low as the battle progresses, prompting Karen to repeatedly suggest that they instead attempt to regroup with the other Lilies. Clara, however, refuses, pointing out that the Lilies within Ludvico's campus would be endangered should they leave the battlefield. As they continue to encounter Irregular Huge, the four Lilies are eventually overpowered by them despite Clara and Asahi's efforts to continue leading the battle, before being rescued by Legion Hakolberand of Irma Girls' High School for the Arts.

With Hakolberand's aid, the four Lilies are eventually able to regroup with Towa and Susu, who themselves were rescued by Irma's Legion Irminshines after being faced with an Irregular Gigant-class. Surmising that the Gigant-class possesses the Dominator Skill, the Lilies split themselves in two teams in order to carry out the double Neunwelts required to take it down. With the Ludvico Lilies joining the first team.

Though the Legions succeed in destroying the Gigant-class, they are immediately ambushed by the Huge Sennen Mogura, the master of the Cave looming over Ludvico. Moe and fellow Phantasm users Hibino Waku and Higashikuze Tokuko use their Rare Skills in order to aid the other Lilies in avoiding the Sennen Mogura's surprise attack. After learning that its paralyzing breath has a cooldown time, the Lilies devise a plan to force the Huge to use it, in order to disable the attack for long enough for the Lilies to perform the Neunwelt Tactic. The first year Lilies of each Legion are placed in the luring teams, centered around Moe and Tokuko while the second and third year Lilies perform the Neunwelt Tactic.

Their plan proceeds as expected, however, due to the high degree of exhaustion of all the Lilies present, they are unable to create a powerful enough Magisphere, prompting the Ludvico first years to ask that they also participate on the Neunwelt. And so, together with Towa and Susu, the four first years pour all of their remaining Magie into the Magisphere, with the remaining Lilies working to wear down the Sennen Mogura in the meantime. Exhausted, the Lilies are soon overpowered by the Huge before Himari finally reaches them. Together with Nishikawa Miharu, Hibino Waku and Tejima Komachi, Himari finally succeeds in taking down the Sennen Mogura and neutralizing the Cave over Ludvico.

Later, the Ludvico Lilies mourn their now completely destroyed Garden, with Moe breaking down in tears at the sight of the ravaged Garden facilities. Himari comforts her, remarking how the unity among Ludvico's Lilies is still unbroken. Having received orders to help the oncoming aid from other Gardens, Himari declares her intentions to continue fighting as their captain despite the Temple Legion formally ceasing to exist, with the first years in agreement.

Trivia

• Moe's confirmation name, "Angela", is likely in reference to Catholic Saint Angela of Foligno.
  • Saint Angela gained prominence due to her writings in which she reported to experience multiple divine revelations, possibly inspiring the choice of Moe's Rare Skill as Phantasm.
• In the original version of Schwester's Prayer, Moe's appearance greatly differed from the one now part of her official design, where she sported a medium bobcut, with a single pink ribbon adorning her hair. Moe's current design and personality are directly taken from Asahina Agnes Fuuka and Kagami Agnes Mio, who replaced her in the original Schwester's Secret and in the recap performance Schwester's Oath, respectively.
• Moe was the first ever Lily to awaken to Phantasm in Ludvico's history.
• Moe's favorite food is cookies.
