Kuroki Francisca Yuria

Kuroki Francisca Yuria (黒木・フランシスカ・百合亜) is a second year Lily who attends Ludvico Private Girls' Academy. She is a member of Legion Ironside, and formerly a member of the Garden's Top Legion, the Temple Legion. Yuria is the Schwester of Amamiya Sophia Seren, and a major character of the Ludvico series of stage plays.

Personality

Yuria's personality as a first-year differed greatly from her present day self. She was much more meek and reserved due to possessing a weak constitution, something that ultimately prevented her from unleashing the full extent of her great potential as a fighter. It was not until meeting Tithia Paumgartner during the Odaiba Counteroffensive that she would grow more confident in herself and in her allies, finally allowing Yuria to become a reliable Lily from that battle thereafter.

However, Yuria would become a completely different person once entering her second year of high school, a result of being ambushed by GEHENA and made into a Boosted Lily shortly after the Odaiba Counteroffensive. Yuria became exceedingly stoic, to the point that even her mannerisms come off as mechanical, often taking a stiff, unnatural posture when walking, and usually only speaking during combat in order to make statements of fact, such as the neutralization of a Huge, or to announce her own movements.

Though appearing cold and uncaring on the surface, Yuria remains a deeply compassionate individual deep within. However, due to Ludvico's allegiance to GEHENA, Yuria is aware that she is still under their surveillance, and as such, she grew to be somewhat nihilistic. While believing little can be done to change her own situation, or the Garden's, for that matter, Yuria will consistently try to prevent others from suffering the same fate as hers, though this usually comes in the form of her discouraging others from growing stronger, as doing so would make them potential targets for GEHENA's experiments. After meeting the very obstinate Seren, however, Yuria appeared to mellow out considerably, becoming notably more forward and expressive in her desire to protect the people close to her, while simultaneously growing conscious of her nature as a Boosted Lily once again.

Despite her usual serious attitude, Yuria can appear whimsical on occasion. She twice tailed Ichinomiya Michaela Himari in a very conspicuous manner in order to get her attention, appearing to sulk when she was called out for it. Similarly, after receiving Seren's Medalha, Yuria immediately performed a twirl, as if inquiring the first-year on her looks. Likewise, though stating that she "does not understand jokes", Yuria is not above teasing others, particularly the very easily flustered Seren.

History

During her time in junior high, Yuria met and became very close with the Lilies Fukuyama Jeanne Sachie, Seto Veronica Ichika, and Tachibana Theresia Nagisa. The four engaged in a friendly rivalry as members of the Garden's strongest middle school Reserve, whom Nagisa was the captain of.

The Odaiba Counteroffensive

Yuria was one of the Lilies present at the Odaiba Counteroffensive, integrating the Fourth Division, which had been originally conceived as a support team for the other four. Initially, the Fourth Division set out to clear the Aomi and Daiba areas of Koto in order to establish a safe evacuation route, later hoping to aid the First and Fifth Divisions in striking the Nestless Ultra in Odaiba's Wakasu Park. During this battle, the meek Yuria fought closely by the side of the Fourth Division's leader, the commanding and resolute Tithia Paumgarner of St. Mercurius International School, giving Yuria the boost in morale she needed to begin revealing her full potential.

However, after being told by Kondo Misaka that the Fifth Division had been taken out of commission, Tithia left her post in order to warn the First Division personally, as the concentration of Negative Magie prevented them from using their comms. Meanwhile, the Fourth Division remained in Aomi, where multitudes of Small and Middle-class Huge still poured out. Learning of the Fifth Division's situation from Tithia, the commander of the First, Takegoshi Chihana, changed their strategy entirely, with the First Division switching from drawing the Huge away from Uminori, and the Fourth Division tasked with exterminating any of the Huge that made it past them into Aomi.

The Fourth Division had made their way into Daiba, having retreated from Aomi after even more Huge, now including Large-class, started to emerge from the Sea. As such, they had been pushed back to Tokyo's Teleport Station, being the only line of defense for the undersea tunnel, where civilians were being evacuated. Suddenly, the Fourth Division was faced with an Abyss Serpent, and so, they were pressed into initiating a Neunwelt Tactic immediately after being rejoined by Tithia.

After succeeding in destroying the Abyss Serpent and the Huge that accompanied it, the Lilies were able to reestablish communications, learning that they were soon to be met by a legion of Gigant-class Soldier Ants, the Fourth Division set off to intercept them, leaving behind members Saigo Kurena, Soga Suzuna and Hirose Minato to finish evacuations. Meanwhile, Yuria was among the Lilies who joined the Third and Fifth Divisions in destroying the Nestless Ultra together with the Second, while the rest of the Fourth Division were once again stopped in Aomi, fighting a convoy of Huge that had escaped the First. It is said that thanks to their efforts, the Fourth Division was the group to evacuate the most civilians throughout the course of their mission.

Stage plays

This information is specific to the stage play continuity.

Presumably due to her rise to prominence after participating in the Odaiba Counteroffensive, Yuria was one day suddenly ambushed by a Cave, which was not reported to Ludvico. Without any backup, the attack left Yuria on the brink of death, and she was taken in by GEHENA under the pretense of being provided "recovery". Instead, she was subjected to a Boosting experiment which granted her an advanced form of the Skill Regenerator, as such, much like Ando Tazusa, Yuria can no longer be killed by any conventional means. Since being made into a Boosted Lily, her sheer strength caused her to be repeatedly chosen to integrate Ludvico's Top Legion, the Temple Legion.

Schwester's Prayer

As a second year Lily, Yuria is tasked with supervising the newly enrolled first years in their training, watching over Saeki Julia Karen and Narumi Clara Yuko. She briefly stops Matsunaga Brigitta Kayo after she goes on a rampage under the influence of her Lunatic Trancer, and encourages Karen and Clara not to follow her example.

Not long after, the Cave alarm goes off, and all Lilies are dispatched for battle. Yuria briefly runs into Clara and Seren, dismissing the pair as a nuisance as they argue in the middle of combat. With no orders to assemble the Temple Legion, the second year Lilies take the lead in the battle, being joined by Seren and Kishimoto Lucia Raimu in battling a group of six Large-class Huge. With the aid of Arsenal Amatsu Marei of Ryuto Girls' Academy, the Lilies succeed in taking down all the Huge, and as a fellow veteran of the Odaiba Counteroffensive. Marei greets Yuria, but the latter coldly dismisses her, leaving Marei perplexed at the stark change in her personality.

Later, Yuria speaks with the newly transferred Ichinomiya Michaela Himari, inquiring her about the Lily's aspirations to become stronger. Himari tells her of her time in her previous Garden, Irma Girls' High School for the Arts, and how her disagreement with their battle ideologies led her to choose Ludvico. Yuria then advises Himari to not try too hard to realize her ideals, remarking that she is already very strong as she is.

At a later point, The Temple Legion is assembled to neutralize a Cave, with all the Huge converging at Ludvico's cemetery, Maria's Hil. Faced with a Gigant-class, they promptly begin a Neunwelt Tactic, over the course of which, Kayo reveals to Fukuyama Jeanne Sachie that she learned that her former Schwester, Kishimoto Maria Mirai, had chosen to leave Ludvico because she had been made into a Boosted Lily. Yuria confirms this, explaining that GEHENA frequently targets the Lilies with the highest Skiller Values within Ludvico for their experiments, as it also had happened to her. Yuria wonders if Mirai was unable to come to terms with being turned into something much closer to the Huge they fight, but remarks that even still, she gave her life to protect her sister, Raimu, a year ago, and urges Sachie to follow her example. Receiving the Magisphere, Raimu learns from Seren that in her final moments, Mirai herself had exploded in front of them. Though schoked at the revelation, Raimu fires the Magisphere, successfully destroying the Gigant-class.

In the aftermath, Seren approaches Yuria, asking that she become her Schwester in hopes that under her tutelage, she can become even stronger than Mirai was so she can keep Raimu safe. Yuria, however, refuses, arguing that since she is a Boosted Lily, Seren is better off not involving herself with her. Yuria points out how in Mirai's case, the explosion that claimed her life was caused by her own powers going out of control, and that the same could eventually happen with her as well.

Schwester's Secret

Despite Yuria's continuous refusal, Seren continues to insist that she become her Schwester. Yuria attempts to convince her that she won't benefit from growing stronger within Ludvico, telling the first year of how her own strength led her to be suddenly ambushed by a Cave in the past, ultimately forcing her to undergo the Boosting procedure in order to survive.

The Temple Legion is deployed to destroy a Cave, and they promptly begin a Neunwelt Tactic shortly after arriving at the location. However, though their Neunwelt is successful, the Gigant-class is not defeated. As such, the Lilies are depleted of their Magie and unable to continue fighting when they are suddenly rescued by a still living Mirai, who uses her Rare Skill, Phase Transcendence, to divert the Huge away from the Lilies before leaving.

Afterwards, Yuria speaks with Himari, telling the now captain of the Temple Legion that she agrees with her methods, after Himari had previously argued with Tachibana Theresia Nagisa for prioritizing defeating the Huge over going after Kayo, who had left the battlefield by herself. However, Yuria also warns Himari that as she is the Lily with the highest Skiller Value in Ludvico, she'll likely be targeted by GEHENA eventually. The pair is interrupted by Hanaoka Angela Moe and Nagase Marta Nonoka, who tell them that Himari's Schwester, Clara, had begun a duel with Hojo Monica Asahi. The pair arrive at the scene and watch as Clara gains the upper hand against Asahi. In the heat of the moment, Clara attempts to attack Asahi after already knocking her down, but Yuria blocks her swing, declaring their battle finished.

The Cave alarm goes off, and the Lilies begin to leave for battle. Yuria finds herself surrounded by multiple Huge when she is approached by Marei, who presents her with the custom CHARM Adelring, capable of absorbing the Huge's attacks to a certain extent. Marei explains that it was CHARM originally made for her by GEHENA, with added functionalities that negatively impacted her body, which she was able to remove. The Temple Legion is assembles, and they begin a Neunwelt Tactic.

Before they can finish it, however, the Huge in the area retreat as they Mirai appears yet again, this time immediately attacking the other Lilies. The Temple Legion fights Mirai, but she consistently has the upper hand, and when Yuria attempts to lethally wound her, Mirai is able to recover. Yuria then surmises that after her presumed death, Mirai was made to undergo a second Boosting procedure, causing the Huge cells within her body to lose control, virtually turning Mirai herself into a Huge. Yuria presumes that the only way to permanently defeat Mirai is by shooting her with the Magisphere, and she urges Raimu to do so. As the Temple Legion works to restrain Mirai, Raimu reluctantly takes the shot, allowing Mirai to briefly regain her consciousness before passing away.

In the aftermath, Seren approaches Yuria yet again, and this time, she agrees to take the Schwester's Oath with the first year, pointing out that none of them were strong enough to save Mirai, and in order to not let her death be in vain, she'll personally ensure Seren becomes even stronger than she ever was.

White Resistance ~The Promise's Path~

During one of their routine training sessions, Yuria is unusually absent, as she reported "feeling ill" due to being hit on her arm during a previous mission. She talks with Ichika, revealing that while her Regenerator ability allows her to heal any wound, the pain still remains, and while she had paid it no mind until now, witnessing what happened to Mirai made her conscious of it once again, leading her to become fearful of losing control of her powers as Mirai did. Ichika advises Yuria to talk it over with Seren, and Yuria in turn tells Ichika, who had herself suffered an injury, that it's about time she returns to training.

Later, Yuria meets with Himari and Moe, who had been suddenly ambushed by a Cave while training outside the Garden. Yuria tells them that the Cave will not be reported to the Garden, and urges them to flee while she draws the Huge away from them. She is briefly met by the Temple Legion members, telling them to prioritize protecting Himari. Nagisa, however, stays behind, noticing that Yuria appears to be struggling to fight the Huge due to once again being aware of her pain. After the pair is joined by Ichika and the first-year Lilies, they move to regroup with Himari, arriving just as Moe awakens to the Rare Skill Phantasm, allowing them to completely repel the Huge.

When Sachie declares her departure from the Temple Legion in order to form a Legion of her own, Seren attempts to invite Yuria to join them. Yuria inquires Seren on why she so strongly wishes to protect Raimu, and Seren tells her of how, after her mother, a Lily, died in combat, she was taken in by the Kishimoto family, which she eventually came to see as her own, vowing to keep Raimu safe after her own mother also passed away. Yuria commends Seren for still wishing to become a Lily after her mother died as one, but ultimately refuses her offer, believing Seren to already be strong enough on her own, and that being near her would only put them in danger. Seren insists, remarking that she does not wish to be away from Yuria and risk losing her, but Yuria responds that she won't ever die, because she can't.

The Garden receives an alert of a Cave, and the Temple Legion is deployed to neutralize it. They are joined by Sachie's Legion, titled Ironside, who take to clearing the area while the Temple Legion performs a Neunwelt. However, they ultimately fail, as Moe, who had been selected for the first time, is unable to properly control the Magisphere, causing it to be lost. Yuria brings along a second Neunwelt bullet, appearing while wearing Legion Ironside's jacket, and joined by the Temple Legion members with Magie still remaining, Ironside performs their own Neunwelt, successfully destroying the Huge.

Later, Himari questions why Yuria decided to abandon the Temple Legion for Ironside, and she answers that given their position as an unofficial Legion, they don't need to abide by the Garden's orders, and as such, are free to come to Himari's aid whenever needed. Himari worries that Yuria might suffer retaliation for taking a stance against the Garden, but she assures Himari that she won't ever die so long as she has friends to protect.

White Resistance ~The Blade of Truth~

Having previously learned that Raimu's father, Professor Kishimoto, might have been the one to kill her mother, Seren approaches Sano Matilda Kokoro and Haneda Catalina Mei for help in investigating the matter further, with Yuria providing Seren a large sum of money to offer them as compensation, which Kokoro refuses, though very begrudgingly. By Yuria and Sachie's request, Kokoro and Mei, as well as Kayo, take to searching for information within the Garden, while Raimu and Seren return to the Kishimoto family house in order to look for any possible information within Professor Kishimoto's old belongings.

While on their trip, Seren and Raimu are ambushed by a Cave created by GEHENA, and are stuck fighting the Huge while the Temple Legion and Ironside attempt to reach them. Yuria joins the pair as they are faced with three Large-class Huge, and chooses to fight two of them by herself, but after Seren is knocked down while fighting the remaining Large-class, Yuria immediately moves in to shield her Schwester from an incoming attack, causing her to be severely injured. Ironside arrives at the scene, promptly defeating the Large-class, and though her wounds immediately heal, Yuria passes out in Sachie's arms, with the latter tearfully thanking her for keeping Raimu and Seren safe.

Later, Yuria and Sachie talk, with Yuria revealing that she so desperately protected Seren because she noticed the Huge had been particularly targeting her. Sachie worries that GEHENA might want to make Seren into a Boosted Lily as well, and Yuria vows that she'll keep Seren safe, telling Sachie to do the same for Raimu.

When a Gigant-class Huge appears near Ludvico, both the Temple Legion and Ironside assemble to defeat it. However, they're told by Kokoro that Kayo, Seren and Raimu were trapped fighting against Instructor Makabe Melania Sayoko within the Garden. Under Himari's orders, Sachie, Yuria, Karen and Hasegawa Gabriella Tsugumi set off to rescue them, while the remaining Lilies perform the Neunwelt Tactic. Yuria's group reunites with Kayo's just before they spot the Gigant-class Huge fleeing, after the mixed-Legion team's Neunwelt Tactic had been interrupted by a resurrected Nosaka Jacqueline Kazane. Regrouping with Himari's team, the Lilies hold their ground against the Huge while Kokoro returns to the Garden to retrieve another Neunwelt bullet.

After Kokoro returns, the Lilies begin a second Neunwelt, but the Gigant-class once again leaves before they can finish it. They are ambushed by Instructors Sayoko and Toride Suzanne Reika, revealing that they intended to drain the Lilies of their Magie in order to retrieve Raimu on behalf of GEHENA. After Himari and Seren refuse to comply with the Instructors, they disable the protective barrier surrounding Ludvico's campus, allowing the Huge to pour in numbers and directly attack the Garden. The Temple Legion members (minus Himari and Nagisa) then leave to protect the Lilies still present in Ludvico, while Ironside and Himari fight against the Instructors.

The Lilies are overpowered by the Instructors, however, as one of them is also a Boosted Lily. Instructors Izumi Rosa Rina and Kosaka Anastasia Ryoko come to the Lilies' aid, but to their shock, the latter viciously murders Sayoko and Reika, revealing themselves to be Seren's father, Professor Amamiya, who had fused his consciousness with Ryoko's in order to monitor Raimu in secret, revealing that due to the experiments conducted on her mother while she was pregnant, Raimu was born a Boosted Lily. Rina and the Lilies attempt to fight Ryoko, but are once again overwhelmed, as she is also a Boosted Lily, having undergone a special procedure granting her a near limitless output of Magie.

Due to possessing a unique bond with the Huge, Raimu is eventually able to to prompt the Gigant-class Huge into attacking Ryoko, and seizing the opportunity, Seren tries to hold her in place so she can be hit. However, Ryoko breaks free of Seren's grasp and lethally wounds her. Yuria rushes to her Schwester's side, holding Seren in her arms as she says her goodbyes to Raimu, believing she will not be able to survive. Seren then fires at the Gigant-class Huge in order to provoke it into attacking, while she and Yuria once again hold Ryoko in place, causing all three to be hit. Though Ryoko is only knocked out, the attack injured her enough to allow Sachie to kill her, while Himari was able to use the Magisphere to finally destroy the Gigant-class

In the aftermath of the battle, Raimu, believing Seren to have died, tells Sachie that she no longer has any will to fight. Sachie and Yuria argue against it, telling her that giving up would mean that all the sacrifices made for her would be in vain, and reminding Raimu of her promise to fulfill the dreams Mirai had left her with. Encouraged by the pair's words, Raimu decided to keep on being a Lily, and Yuria reveals to Raimu that Seren had survived the battle, recalling her promise to keep her Schwester safe.

The Fateful Gift

Though the Lilies were victorious in their battle against GEHENA, the Huge's assault on the Garden caused Ludvico to suffer severe casualties, with many of its Instructors losing their lives, as well as its facilities being heavily destroyed by the Huge. As such, the Garden completely ceased to function in any official capacity, with other nearby Gardens sending its own Legions to cover Ludvico's territory. As the incident caused a large-scale breakout of the Irregular Huge held as test subjects in GEHENA's Ludvico Labs, Legion Ironside leads the defensive efforts against the Huge infestation in the now inoperative Temple Legion's stead.

Receiving reports of a Gigant-class in the area, Legion Ironside are joined by Funada Ui and Funada Kiito of Odaiba Girls' School's Legion Hronesnæsse, as well as Herensuge Girls' Academy's Legion Hervör. Under Sachie's guidance, the multi-Legion team attempt to make their way towards the Gigant-class, but are continuously surrounded by Huge. Hervör member Sasaki Ran is injured, and when Raimu attempts to help her up, the pair experiences an immense surge of Magie as their hands touch, allowing Ran to quickly destroy all the Huge in the area. Sachie learns that just like Raimu, Ran is never attacked by the Huge despite attracting their presence, and Raimu explains to the other Lilies how it is a result of her nature as a born Boosted Lily. Because of this, Sachie worries that Ran will be targeted by GEHENA just as Raimu has.

The Legions are met with yet another Gigant-class Huge, shortly before reuniting with Yurigaoka Girls' Academy's Team Hitotsuyanagi. By Shirai Yuyu's request, Team Hitotsuyanagi moves out to continue pursuing the previous Gigant-class, while under Sachie's command, the other Legions split into two teams, each of them performing a Neunwelt Tactic in case the second Gigant-class possesses a Magie Reflector. However, while they perform their Neunwelts, a third Gigant-class appears, much to the dismay of Toda Eulalia Kotohi, who had been previously informed by GEHENA that only two Gigant-class would be sent to the area.

Kotohi presumes that GEHENA intends to kill all the Lilies present in order to suppress their experiment, but Yuria assures her they will survive, telling the girl she will be questioned about her ties with GEHENA once they're done. With no other choice, the Legions resume their Neunwelts, however, only one of the Gigant-class is destroyed, with the other instead absorbing the Magisphere and firing it back at Raimu and Ran. Kotohi shields the pair from the blast, as she is herself a Boosted Lily possessing a Magie Reflector. The impact causes Kotohi to lose consciousness, and depleted of their Magie, the Lilies retreat in order to establish a plan to defeat the final Gigant-class.

After reuniting with Team Hitotsuyanagi, Kotohi tells them of how she had been secretly working in conjunction with GEHENA, aiding them in purposefully deploying Huge as part of their experiments and documenting the results. With the information disclosed by Kotohi, the Legions conclude that, due to the presence of three Charisma users: Raimu, Shiba Tomoshibi and Hitotsuyanagi Riri, they should be able to perform a Neunwelt with more than the standard 9 people, producing a supercharged Magisphere that should allow them to overpower the Gigant-class. While Kiito proposes that all Lilies participate, Sachie disagrees, as most of them were depleted of their reserves of Magie, and ultimately, they agree on 16 out of the 24 Lilies present to perform the Neunwelt, with the remaining Lilies, including Yuria, staying behind as backup.

Combat Style

Yuria's fighting style is said to be a combination of a glamorous, refined display of technique, and crude, brute force overpowering of her enemies. Like Ando Tazusa or Shiba Tomoshibi, Yuria seems to disregard her defenses due to possessing Regenerator, often allowing herself to be hit due to her injuries healing soon after. As such, Yuria will frequently use her own body to shield others as opposed to deflecting attacks.

Toyline

Yuria had two dolls released as part of the Assault Lily toyline, titled "Assault Lily Side Story No.54: Kuroki Francisca Yuria", both released in August 2020. The two dolls are virtually identical, their only differing factor being the hairpiece, with one featuring Yuria with a more ash gray tone to her hair, in accordance with her character design, while the other features Yuria with brown hair, matching the natural hair color of her primary actress, Umehara Saeri. Both dolls feature four swappable faceplates, and are adorned with the Temple Legion's jacket. The CHARM included in both versions is the Dainsleif Carbine.

• Yuria's confirmation name, "Francisca", is likely in reference to Catholic Saint Francesco d'Assisi, better known in English as Saint Francis.
• Yuria's existence as a character predates her presence in the Assault Lily universe. A character named "Kuroki Yuria" appeared in the 2015 play "Fukan Shoujo" by Ludvico Private Girls' Academy, where she was performed by Mihama Anri.
• The first two characters of Yuria's first same spell Yuri (百合), the Japanese word for "Lily".
• Yuria is Futagawa Fumi's favorite Lily from Ludvico Private Girls' Academy, with the Yurigaoka Lily often proclaiming Yuria to be an "unappreciated gem".
• Yuria's hobbies include playing the piano, ballet and making sweets.
• Yuria dislikes jokes, feelings of jealousy and crude things.
• Yuria's favorite food is macarons.
• Ando Haruka, Yuria's actress at the time of Assault Lily: White Resistance ~The Promise's Path~, retired from stage acting following that play. Producer Hayashi Shuji suggested to director and playwright Sakuragi Sayaka that Yuria should die at the end of The Promise's Path so that there would be no need to find a replacement actress, but because the thought of killing her made Sakuragi cry, they eventually decided against it.
