Plot[edit | edit source]
Prelude[edit | edit source]
Following one of the Temple Legion’s missions, Fukuyama Jeanne Sachie and Kishimoto Lucia Raimu pray together at Maria’s Hill, where they both reminisce of their time with Kishimoto Maria Mirai, still grappling with the revelation that she was made into a Boosted Lily. Meanwhile, Amamiya Sophia Seren insists on becoming Kuroki Francisca Yuria’s Schwester, but the latter continues to refuse, nonchalantly dismissing Seren’s desire to become stronger. Yuria tells Seren that she had no choice but to undertake the Boosting procedure, but remarks on how strange it was that she had been suddenly ambushed by a large crowd of Huge the day it happened. In a flashback sequence, it is shown that Mirai was met with the same fate, being ambushed and subsequently overwhelmed by a swarm of Huge.
Prologue[edit | edit source]
Sachie and with Matsunaga Brigitta Kayo are surprised by the return of Tachibana Theresia Nagisa, who transferred back from Heimskringla Trädgård after hearing that Seto Veronica Ichika had suffered an injury in battle. Kayo explains that following their takedown of the previous Gigant-class, she, Ichika and Sano Matilda Kokoro encountered Saeki Julia Karen, Haneda Catalina Mei and Hasegawa Gabriella Tsugumi, who had gotten themselves lost and were on their way back to the Garden. As they fought off the Huge still in the Area, Ichika was heavily hurt when shielding Karen from a Large-class’ attack. Kayo is particularly stricken with guilt, blaming Ichika’s injury on her own reckless behavior during that battle, as her erratic movements disrupted the group's formation, and prevented Kokoro and Ichika from utilizing their Rare Skills effectively. Sachie and Nagisa reassure her that she has no reason to blame herself for an action Ichika took on her own. Nagisa, however, expresses her dissatisfaction of the Temple Legion’s captain being absent during this ordeal.
Instructors Izumi Rosa Rina and Kosaka Anastasia Ryoko hold another meeting with GEHENA, where they agree to proceed with their plans of pursuing Ichinomiya Michaela Himari. Still bothered by the events that transpired prior, Rina inquires GEHENA about Raimu, noting that she seems to attract the Huge’s presence just as Mirai used to even before she underwent the Boosting procedure. When they refuse to answer her, Rina declares that she will not continue aiding their experiments, and she is promptly reprimanded for it, causing her to leave the meeting halfway through.
The next morning, Seren finds Raimu training by herself, determined to make better use of the Asterion left behind by Mirai. Seren expresses her worry for Raimu after what she learned in their previous battle, but Raimu reassures her that she is alright, and that it was better for her to find out what happened to her sister. They are joined by Mei, Tsugumi and Karen, the latter revealing that she has paid daily visits to Ichika since her accident. Karen still sees herself in a level below the others, noting how Seren and Raimu had been chosen for the Temple Legion, and even Tsugumi was also known to be a competent fighter during junior high, pointing out that she immediately awakened to the Rare Skill Brave upon entering high school.
Hojo Monica Asahi and Narumi Clara Yuko appear soon after, and Asahi reveals that she had awakened to The Way of the World. Mocking Raimu’s cluelessness about Rare Skills, Asahi posits that she might be chosen for the Temple Legion in Seren’s place next, as they share both Rare Skill and combat position. This upsets Clara, who wonders if Asahi isn’t simply trying too hard to become her partner once again. Highly flustered, Asahi throws Seren a challenge, where the first to take the Schwester’s Oath with the strongest Lily they can find wins, which Seren accepts. After Asahi offhandedly insults Himari, Clara's own Schwester, she offers Asahi a challenge of her own, demanding that they duel, Asahi accepts, with the condition that Clara must annul her vows with Himari should she lose.
Meanwhile, Ichika, now walking with a crutch, talks with Amatsu Marei, telling her that she put herself in harm's way due to her own experience with her late Schwester, Nosaka Jacqueline Kazane. She tells her that while she once thought that she “would rather have died than having to lose the one to protect you”, she now understands why Kazane gave her life to protect her. Marei suggests that it's time Ichika finds her a Schwester of her own, but Ichika dismisses this, stating that she still has to dedicate herself to giving Sachie the support she needs.
Following Asahi's challenge, Seren once again asks Yuria to take the Schwester’s Oath with her, this time suggesting that they duel for it. But yet again, Yuria refuses, telling Seren that there is no possible way she could defeat her, as the only way to defeat a Boosted Lily is by killing them. The Cave alarm blares, and the pair leaves for battle. Instructor Ryoko approaches Karen, Mei and Tsugumi, but despite her efforts to deter them and have them join her “Cheering Squad”, they still leave into battle, as Karen wishes to do right by Ichika’s sacrifice.
First Battle[edit | edit source]
Arriving onto the battlefield, Kayo refuses to activate her Lunatic Trancer, not wishing to cause any further harm to her teammates, despite Himari and Nagisa's disapproval. As the selection of the Temple Legion members begins, Nagisa takes Kayo along, believing that she’ll also be chosen as usual. However, Tsugumi is appointed instead, and Kayo runs away from the fight. Nagisa attempts to go after her, but is stopped by Himari, which upsets the former. The two argue, as Nagisa suggests that Himari is still bound by Irma’s exceedingly pragmatic combat style, showing no care for her teammates. After making her pass during the Neunwelt Tactic, Nagisa leaves to search for Kayo anyway, much to Himari's displeasure.
Despite making a successful finishing shot, the Gigant-class is not defeated. As it prepares to attack the Temple Legion, it is interrupted by the appearance of Mirai, alive and brandishing a black Asterion. She unleashes her Rare Skill, Phase Transcendence, to divert the Gigant-class away from the Temple Legion members, devastating the surrounding area.
Sometime after, Rina and Ryoko report Mirai’s reappearance to GEHENA, who reveal themselves to be already aware that she was alive. Rina asks why Mirai refused to return to Ludvico, but receives no answer. After the battle had ended, Seren, Raimu and Sachie remain in shock, and they recall how right after reappearing, Mirai left the battlefield giving them no answers, which led the trio to pursue her. This, however, caused Mirai to suddenly attack them in animalistic anger, prompting Seren and Sachie to fight off the berserk Mirai as they pleaded with her to remember who she is, to no avail.
However, after glimpsing at Sachie’s Medalha, Mirai briefly regains her consciousness, and frantically begs the other three to stay away from her, as she is no longer who she used to be. Mirai briefly addresses the trio, expressing her happiness that Sachie is finally moving on, that Seren is fulfilling her promise of protecting Raimu, and that Raimu is safe. However, despite their pleas, Mirai leaves Sachie, Raimu and Seren once again, telling them that should they encounter her again, they must kill her with no hesitation.
Interlude[edit | edit source]
Kokoro approaches Kayo, who had since skipped training for five days and was nowhere to be found. Kokoro tells her of how important it is for them to persist with their efforts in spite of how tough the situations they face can be, citing how it was Kayo's genuine efforts that led her to be chosen for the Temple Legion until that point, and that the best thing they can do for Ichika is continue to give their all, so that Ichika can focus on recovering without worries and return to the Temple Legion soon. Kokoro mentions how her own efforts paid off by unlocking her the Subskill Stealth, and this inspires Kayo, as she figures that if she can awaken to a Subskill herself, then she'll be able to fight without needing to use Lunatic Trancer. Kayo leaves to further research Subskills, while Kokoro is approached by Mei, whom in her admiration for ninjas, wishes to become Kokoro's pupil after witnessing her stealth abilities in action.
Himari is approached by Yuria, telling the former that she does not wish for her to turn out as Mirai did. She mentions how, hailing from the Duelist generation, Mirai possessed a highly individualistic fighting style, often engaging the Huge without a Legion despite her odd tendency to attract them, which likely led her to being more easily targeted. Because of this, Yuria advises Himari not to act on her own in the name of her own ideal fighting style, as she currently has the highest Skiller Value in the Garden, something that leaves her vulnerable to being ambushed like Mirai and Yuria herself was. Meanwhile, Rina explains to Ryoko of how Mirai’s ever increasing power also meant she had increasingly less control over it, and it was GEHENA who offered her a way to gain control over her abilities. While making her way to their lab, however, she was ambushed by a Cave that went undetected by any searchers, which caused her to be overwhelmed by the Huge, and eventually, captured by GEHENA. Fearing that the same may happen to Raimu, Rina grows increasingly disillusioned with her participation in GEHENA’s schemes.
Himari and Yuria are approached by Nagase Marta Nonoka and Hanaoka Angela Moe, who tell them that Clara and Asahi had begun their duel. Asahi initially has the advantage, as she is particularly experienced with Dueling techniques. However, Clara, manages to overtake her, revealing that because she always longed to surpass Asahi during their time in junior high, she became very familiar with her former partner's fighting style. Clara successfully knocks Asahi down, and their duel is deemed finished by Yuria and Himari, the latter admonishing the pair for undertaking an activity against the Garden’s rules, though assuring them the administration won’t be made aware of this occurrence. Asahi notices Clara still carries around her bear, Kumama, just as she used to, revealing to the other Lilies present that it was her who gifted it to Clara. Asahi and Clara reconcile just before the Cave alarm blares again, and the Lilies leave for battle.
Second Battle[edit | edit source]
Surrounded by a large group of Huge, Yuria is rescued by Marei, who presents her a custom CHARM, the Adelring, built with Ichika’s aid. Marei tells Yuria that it was a CHARM originally developed for her by GEHENA, with functionalities that would negatively impact her body, which she took the liberty of removing. The Temple Legion is appointed, and Tsugumi is once again selected, this causes her to panic, wondering if she is truly worthy to be among all the others, as she believes her fighting style is not up to the level of her teammates. Karen, Mei, Moe and Nonoka reassure her, promising to cheer her on as she fights.
The Temple Legion assembles, immediately beginning a Neunwelt Tactic. However, Kayo is still absent despite being selected this time. Himari orders the Temple Legion to carry on, once again angering Nagisa. However, she also orders Tsugumi to go and search for Kayo, who promptly sets off as the remaining members begin combat. Tsugumi finds Kayo, who claims she’s still unfit to fight and thus cannot return to the others. Tsugumi reveals that she had always admired Kayo’s fighting style, which is so unlike her meek and reserved self, and had always wished to share the battlefield with her. She offers Kayo her Medalha, but Kayo is skeptical that anyone would wish to become Schwesters with someone like herself. Tsugumi reassures her intentions, remarking that her Rare Skill, Brave, is capable of bringing Lunatic Trancer under control. Finally, Kayo agrees, and the pair exchange their Medalhas, officially taking the Schwester’s Oath.
Kayo and Tsugumi return to the battlefield and the Temple Legion resumes their Neunwelt. However, before Raimu can take the finishing shot, all the Huge suddenly retreat as Mirai reappears before the group. She once again attacks the other Lilies, managing to overpower all of Temple Legion. Yuria attempts to lethally strike Mirai, but fails, as she also possesses the Regenerator skill. Yuria theorizes that the Huge cells in Mirai’s body have gone out of control, causing her to virtually become herself a Huge, which was likely the result of undergoing a second Boosting procedure after the battle where she was presumed dead. With little of what was once Mirai remaining, Yuria tells Raimu that she must shoot her with the Magisphere, as it is the only way of bringing Mirai back to the human she used to be. Sachie and Seren continue to push back against Mirai, also urging Raimu to use the Magisphere on her sister. Raimu briefly sees a vision of Mirai, once again asking her what kind of Lily she wished to become, to which Raimu repeats the answer she had given her before: "A Lily just like you". Tearfully, Raimu takes the shot, and as the Magie destroys the Huge cells in her body, Mirai regains her consciousness one final time, mustering her final strength to tell Seren that she had done well, and, holding her younger sister in her arms, Mirai assures Raimu that she'll surely become an outstanding Lily of her own as her life fades away for a second time.
Epilogue[edit | edit source]
In the aftermath of the battle, Rina and Ryoko discuss Mirai’s circumstances, particularly, hers and Raimu’s tendency to attract Huge even without any Boosting procedures, pinpointing it as the reason of GEHENA’s interest in the pair. Determined to keep Raimu safe, Rina remarks that she too must join her students’ battle. Seren approaches Yuria once again, and the latter finally agrees to become her Schwester, as she also wishes for Seren to become stronger than Mirai ever was, so that her death may not go in vain. After exchanging their Medalhas, Seren asks Yuria to personally train her.
Later, Kayo speaks with Nagisa and Kokoro of how during her research into Subskills, she learned that the immense speed Raimu displays when performing the Neunwelt's finishing shot was not the Rare Skill Shukuchi, but actually its Subskill form “Invisible One”. Once again noting how Raimu's presence seems to increase her awareness of her teammates and of her own powers, Kayo concludes that Raimu’s Rare Skill is actually Charisma. Later, Nagisa and Himari finally talk, and the former reveals that she was upset because as she was previously the captain of Ludvico's middle school Legion, she had hoped to become the captain of the Temple Legion as well upon her return. Himari places her as the new vice-captain, acknowledging her strength, and the pair reconciles. Before leaving the Garden, Marei meets with Ichika, who reveals that in the wake of her injury, she began to consider becoming an Arsenal, having already started taking classes. While appreciating the thought, Marei advises her that it's best that she continues striving to recover as a proper Lily.
At Maria’s Hill, Raimu prays alone before being joined by Sachie, and the pair tearfully air their sorrows over Mirai’s unfortunate fate. Remarking that they face an even more formidable battle ahead, Sachie urges Raimu to stand up, reminding her of the strange power to inspire that she possesses. Raimu concurs, telling her Schwester that she too wishes to become even stronger. As they see off Mirai’s soul as it ascends into the skies, they vow to reclaim the world filled with life that she had dreamed of.
Differences from the original play[edit | edit source]
Though the revival introduces several changes to the play's structure and dialogue, listed below are some of the most notable differences:
- The opening scene has been largely reworked, with the original showing Seren finding Sachie alone at Maria’s Hill, and mainly discussing the promises the two of them had made to Mirai. The pair is then immediately summoned for a mission with the Temple Legion. Karen, Tsugumi and Yagami Catalina Mahiro meet Asahi, before taking to fighting in the woods, accompanied by Asahina Agnes Fuuka and Nishina Elizabeth Otoha. Asahi and Tsugumi are summoned to the Temple Legion, where they are immediately met with a Gigant-class, which they are able to defeat with the aid of Nagisa, who suddenly makes her appearance.
- The original play marks the first appearance of Hojo Monica Asahi, while the revival has her appear in Schwester's Prayer, though in a much more minor role.
- A selection of scenes were removed from the revival:
- A scene showing Nagisa meeting Himari immediately after transferring back to Ludvico was removed.
- A scene where Rina and Ryoko discuss the circumstances of Raimu’s continuous selection for the Temple Legion, in spite of her low combat capabilities was removed.
- A scene was cut where Sachie discusses with Raimu about feeling that she didn't truly know Mirai deep within. This scene likely serves as a setup for the ending of both versions of the play, where Sachie remarks that, when seeing Mirai’s final expressions, she felt that she finally saw her real self for the first time
- Much like the original Schwester’s Prayer's Suzushiro Catarina Miyabi and Natsume Elizabeth Ema, the original play had the completely different characters of Yagami Catarina Mahiro, Asahina Agnes Fuuka and Nishina Elizabeth Otoha, whose roles are replaced by Mei, Moe and Nonoka in the revival.
- Furthermore, Otoha and Fuuka's personalities and designs were used as the basis for Nonoka and Moe in the revivals, respectively.
- Akutsu Magdalena Maaya only appears in the 2016 original run, though this time, she exclusively appears in the interactive interlude between the play's acts, not bearing any impact in the story.
- Curiously, she now refers to herself with the middle name of "Lucifer", which would go on to be used for her later appearances.
- Ichika, and subsequently her subplot are completely absent from the original play. As such, Kayo’s hesitation to fight largely comes from being scolded by the Instructors and Himari after her performance during the Temple Legion's first mission. Likewise, Ichika's relationship with Saeki Julia Karen is not explored until the original White Resistance ~The Blade of Truth~.
- At the start of the original play, Yuria explains to Seren in much greater detail the events that led to her becoming a Boosted Lily. Said details were reused for Rina's dialogue explaining Mirai's circumstances in the revival.
- In the original, as Raimu prepares to take the finishing shot against the Gigant-class, it is said that the Huge begin to topple over, while in the revival, they’re only said to “suddenly retreat”
- Once again, Amatsu Marei's appearance is exclusive to the 2021 revival. As such, Yuria does not receive her Adelring until White Resistance ~The Promise's Path~ in the original series, where it is said to have been made by Ichika, with aid from Ludvico's Arsenal Department.

Trivia[edit | edit source]
- Clara’s Gungnir Carbine is now shown to have a small, pink bear resembling Kumama attached to its front grip.
- While only referring to Raimu as “Kishimoto” during Schwester’s Prayer, Clara begins to call her “Lucia” by the end of this play.
- Marei remarks that Ichika “tried to act tough by walking in front of the first years”, this likely seeks to correct the continuity error of Ichika being shown walking normally at the end of Schwester’s Prayer.
- In the original play, Kokoro finds Kayo playing “Huge Go”, a riff on the cellphone game “Pokémon Go”, which had been recently released at the time. In the revival, Kayo is playing Last Bullet, which she claimed to have developed herself.
- At the last showing of the 2021 revival, the revivals for White Resistance ~The Promise's Path~ and White Resistance ~The Blade of Truth~ were announced along with the release dates.
