Temple Legion

From Assault Lily Wiki

The Temple Legion (LGテンプルレギオン) is the Top Legion of Ludvico Private Girls' Academy. Historically one of the most proactive Legions of the Three Great Gardens of Tokyo, they are notorious for their variable lineup system, where the Lilies considered to be the Garden's strongest at the time of deployment are appointed to integrate it by a dedicated Instructor.

History

[edit | edit source]

The Temple Legion was the single active Legion of Ludvico for the majority of the Garden's history, and prior to the Odaiba Counteroffensive, they were one of the only Legions of Tokyo to actively deploy into the battlefront,[1] bolstering Ludvico's reputation amongst Tokyo's Gardens. Due to the outstanding proficiency in Duelist tactics displayed by their Lilies, Ludvico was considered the single strongest Garden in all of Tokyo during the Duelist era,[2] and subsequently, the Temple Legion stood amongst the Legions in Tokyo that very rarely saw defeat in combat.[3]

Due to the strength and effectiveness it displayed on the battlefield, the Temple Legion developed a prestigious reputation not only across Tokyo, but within Ludvico itself. Many of the Lilies that enrolled into Ludvico have done so out of admiration for the Garden's readiness to stand at the forefront of Tokyo's defensive lines.[4] Once admitted, Ludvico's Lilies undergo a training regimen with the sole purpose of forging their strength to a level where they can be selected for the Temple Legion. As such, becoming a member of the Temple Legion eventually turned into a symbol of status for Ludvico Lilies, with the unique jacket worn by the Legion members being regarded as a token of honor, and the number of times a Lily has been appointed becoming the basis of an informal social hierarchy among them.[5]

Furthermore, the Temple Legion's high status in Ludvico also gave rise to the Cheering Squad (応援団), a group of Lilies who will often accompany the Temple Legion into the battlefield for the sole purpose of cheering them on as they fight. Kosaka Anastasia Ryoko was a notorious member of the group during her time as a Lily, eventually becoming their leader upon retiring from active duty and becoming an Instructor.

The Temple Legion is noted to have taken part in the Makuhari Recapture and the Kiyosumi-Shirakawa Campus Defense of Irma Girls' High School for the Arts. Some of its now former members have also risen to prominence due to their participation in the Odaiba Counteroffensive.

Legion Ironside

In its most recent iteration, tensions arose amongst the Temple Legion members due to Ludvico's affiliations with GEHENA and the implications it held for the Legion, as they primarily act under the Garden's direct orders. This eventually caused a handful of the Temple Legion members to desert the Legion entirely, and, under the leadership of one Fukuyama Jeanne Sachie, form a completely independent Legion between themselves, titled Legion Ironside.

Despite Ludvico's administration being expressly against the existence of any other Legions apart from the Temple Legion, Ironside continued to operate regardless. This strongly impaired the Temple Legion, as many of Ironside's members were regular appointees of theirs, there were no longer enough strong Lilies in Ludvico in order for the Temple Legion to meet the minimum nine members required to perform the Neunwelt Tactic. As such, the Temple Legion became highly reliant on the aid of Ironside and even the Garden's Instructors during combat, which greatly impacted its effectiveness in the battlefield.

The Temple Legion would ultimately join Legion Ironside in their final confrontation with GEHENA's acolytes within Ludvico, and in the ensuing battle, GEHENA deployed a Great Cave directly within the premises of Ludvico's campus, allowing the Huge to directly attack the Garden and its Lilies, while simultaneously causing the Irregular Huge held as test subjects within GEHENA's Ludvico Labs to break free. While the two Legions emerged victorious, the Huge's attack left Ludvico's installations in ruins, and while the Garden's Lilies were successfully evacuated, most of its Instructors lost their lives in the battle.

As a result, Ludvico's high administration completely crumbled apart, and without a dedicated Instructor to appoint its members and relay it orders, the Temple Legion was left unable to continue operating in any official capacity.[6] As the only Legion able to remain active, Legion Ironside essentially took over the Temple Legion's role as Ludvico's representative in all subsequent matters pertaining to cross-Garden relations,[7] while the Temple Legion members joined the Ludvico Lilies in assisting the Legions sent out to exterminate the Huge now permeating cover Ludvico's territory.[8]

Nonetheless, the Temple Legion's current captain, Ichinomiya Michaela Himari, has expressed her desire to revive the Temple Legion in the future, with many of her teammates also showing their willingness to remain under her leadership.[9] While Ludvico has reportedly regained its functioning capabilities by the time of the Izu Oshima Nest Survey, it is not yet known if the Temple Legion has also resumed its operations.

Combat Style

[edit | edit source]
The Temple Legion's primary battle formation

The Temple Legion adopts a standard 3x3x3 formation,[10] which is greatly inspired by the one previously employed by the revolutionary First Generation Álfheimr.[11] Historically, most of the Lilies to integrate the Temple Legion had already awakened to their Rare Skill,[12] and though they primarily acted as a team, Ludvico's continuous adoption of the Duelist doctrine allowed for its most proficient Lilies to fight by themselves, as it was the case with Kishimoto Maria Mirai.

Under Ichinomiya Michaela Himari, the Temple Legion prioritized a "gallant and freeform" fighting style, which primarily sought to allow each member to fully exercise their uniqueness traits when in combat, as well as better adapt to changes in the battlefield. Himari's approach is greatly inspired by her experience as a member of the First Division during the Odaiba Counteroffensive, and is noted to greatly benefit from having a Phantasm user amongst its members, something that was eventually made possible by Hanaoka Angela Moe awakening to this Rare Skill.

Relationships

[edit | edit source]

As the two flagship Legions of Ludvico, The Temple Legion most often shares the battlefield with Legion Ironside. They are also held in very high regard by Irma Legions Irminshines and Hakolberand, as not only they provided Irma with invaluable help during the Kiyosumi-Shirakawa Campus defense, but their current captain, Himari, is herself a former student of Irma, and is very close friends with Lilies of both Legions.

Members

[edit | edit source]

The Temple Legion's most notorious feature is its variable lineup system, where apart from the roles of captain and vice captain, the Legion does not have any fixed members. Instead, the Lilies considered to be the Garden's strongest at the time of deployment are appointed to integrate the Legion by a dedicated Instructor just before leaving for battle. It is not yet known if this system remains in place in the wake of Ludvico's collapse.
