Hasegawa Gabriella Tsugumi
![]() | This article contains major spoilers for the Assault Lily stage plays. Unless you're confident that you know them already, read further at your own peril! |
Hasegawa Gabriella Tsugumi (長谷川・ガブリエラ・つぐみ) is a first-year Lily who attends Ludvico Private Girls' Academy. She is a member of Legion Ironside, and a former member of the Garden's Top Legion, the Temple Legion. She is the Schwester of Matsunaga Brigitta Kayo. Tsugumi is a recurring character in the Ludvico series of stage plays, playing a major role in Schwester's Secret.
Personality[edit | edit source]
Tsugumi's standout trait is her empathy, always maintaining an optimistic attitude whenever she or others are faced with adversity, despite the many struggles she faced during her upbringing. An earnest and hard worker,[1] Tsugumi became a well trusted figure by even her seniors since her time in junior high. Tsugumi earnestly believes in her friends' potential, often being the one to encourage and motivate them when they feel disheartened by their lack of growth, and becoming genuinely hurt when they consider giving up.
On the other hand, Tsugumi is very self conscious of the shortcomings in her own abilities. She'll refuse to join battles she believes herself unable to win, and appears to see her reserved and unassuming fighting style as inferior to those of the Garden's best Lilies, causing her to become greatly insecure when she was eventually selected to join them in the Temple Legion. Because of this, she came to greatly admire Kayo due to the power she displays, as well as her wildly unrestrained approach to battle.
History[edit | edit source]
Stage plays[edit | edit source]
Tsugumi was a student of Ludvico since junior high, where she met and became close friends with Saeki Julia Karen. She was noted to be a fairly competent Lily during this time, earning her the trust of her seniors. As a result, she awakened to the Rare Skill Brave not long after entering high school.
Schwester's Prayer[edit | edit source]

Tsugumi, Karen and Haneda Catalina Mei joined Kishimoto Lucia Raimu and Amamiya Sophia Seren in their Class B, being the first classmates to greet the pair, particularly as they were impressed by Seren passing the entrance exams at the very top of their class. During their first training session, Tsugumi was under the supervision of Seto Veronica Ichika, being shortly interrupted by Kayo's appearance, who wildly destroyed the surrounding dummy Huge under the influence of her Lunatic Trancer.
During Ludvico's Easter Festival, Tsugumi joined her fellow first years in egg hunting, though only finding eggs left by Instructor Kosaka Anastasia Ryoko. After learning that a Cave had materialized at Ludvico's cemetery, Maria's Hill, where Raimu was, the first years decide to help the Temple Legion fight the Huge. They are approached by Ryoko, however, who advises them against going into battle unprepared, and instead ask that they join her Cheering Squad. Believing them to be unable to face such a large amount of Huge by themselves, Tsugumi attempts to convince Karen and Mei to join Ryoko with her, but they refuse, not wishing to turn their backs to the battle at hand. Karen and Mei set off, promising to join Tsugumi soon after.
After the Temple Legion successfully defeated the Gigant-class Huge, Tsugumi leaves to search for Karen and Mei, who had gotten themselves lost in the woods, far away from the Garden. After finally finding the pair, Tsugumi remarks that she does not know the way back either.
Schwester's Secret[edit | edit source]

As Tsugumi, Karen and Mei make their way back to the Garden, they find themselves surrounded by Huge left over by the Cave. As they attempt to fend them off, Karen's CHARM shortly malfunctions, prompting Tsugumi to switch CHARMs with her, taking the lead as the other two provide her cover. The trio is joined by Kayo, Ichika and Sano Matilda Kokoro. Ichika tells Tsugumi to go ahead of them and bring reinforcements, meanwhile, Kayo fights the Huge in a frenzy, disrupting the other Lilies still present, and as Karen attempts to help them, Ichika is left heavily injured after protecting her from a Large-class' attack.
Later, Karen tells her classmates of how she had paid Ichika daily visits, overjoyed that she had remembered her name. While motivated to give her all in training, Karen remarks how she is still a level below the other first years, citing how Tsugumi was a well respected Lily in junior high, and that she already had awakened her Rare Skill, though they're left somewhat underwhelmed after learning that her Rare Skill is Brave.
Following the appearance of a Cave, Instructor Ryoko once again approaches the trio, attempting to convince them to join the Cheering Squad. This time, however, they choose to leave for battle. As they fight, Tsugumi is appointed to join the Temple Legion, but while Karen and Mei are impressed, Tsugumi is worried about leaving the two of them behind, remembering what had happened previously. The pair assure Tsugumi they'll be fine, and urge her to go and join the others.
Tsugumi joins the Temple Legion in performing the Neunwelt Tactic against a Gigant-class Huge, but while they succeed in landing their finishing shot, the Huge is not defeated. As the depleted Lilies are about to be attacked, Kishimoto Maria Mirai shows herself, using her Rare Skill, Phase Transcendence, to divert the Gigant-class away from them.
At a later time, the Temple Legion is dispatched to neutralize another Cave, and Tsugumi is once again selected. She is still insecure about joining the others, however, telling her classmates of how she believes her reserved fighting style is not up to the standards of the other members, and that she might be holding back even her fellow first years. Karen and Mei, as well as Nagase Marta Nonoka and Hanaoka Angela Moe tell Tsugumi they'll join Ryoko's Cheering Squad in order to motivate her during battle.
The Temple Legion assembles, but Kayo is absent despite being selected. Ordered to search for her by Ichinomiya Michaela Himari, Tsugumi finds Kayo away from the others, and is told by the second year that she can't rejoin them, as she fears that her frenzied fighting style might cause others to be hurt like Ichika was. Tsugumi reveals that she had always admired Kayo for always fearlessly fighting at the front, motivating her to shake off her own fears and face the battlefield. Kayo, however, does not believe that she could ever be an inspiration to anyone, prompting Tsugumi to offer her Medalha, showing her that she genuinely wishes to fight by her side. Kayo still does not believe someone could ever desire her company, and Tsugumi tells her of how her Rare Skill, Brave, is capable of bringing Lunatic Trancer under control. Kayo gives Tsugumi her own Medalha, and the pair take the Schwester's Oath.
Tsugumi and Kayo rejoin the Temple Legion, and they begin a Neunwelt Tactic yet again. However, Raimu is unable to fire the finishing shot as Mirai appears yet again, this time immediately attacking the Temple Legion. Tsugumi and the other first year members stand back as the second years fight against Mirai, working to restrain her so that Raimu can defeat her with the Magisphere.
Later, Tsugumi tells her classmates of how Kayo had told her that Raimu's Rare Skill was not Shukuchi as previously thought, but instead Charisma. Fearing that Raimu might once again be targeted by a Cave, Tsugumi encourages her classmates to become strong enough to fight by her side.
White Resistance ~The Promise's Path~[edit | edit source]

After the departure of Instructor Izumi Rosa Rina, the first years begin training under the supervision of newly arrived Instructors Kaido Beatrice Chiharu and Makabe Melania Sayoko. Now paired together with Kayo in training, Tsugumi is one of the few first years to perform well during their session, with her classmates mostly being scolded by their second year training partners. Despite Hojo Monica Asahi's mocking words, Tsugumi continuously tries to encourage the other first years, telling them that by continuing to practice, they will be ready to use their Rare Skills once they awaken them. Tsugumi then proposes they train by themselves after classes, with Karen, Raimu, Moe and Nonoka joining her.
During one of their practice sessions, Tsugumi, Karen and Raimu are met by Ichika, who advises Raimu on how to properly wield her Asterion. As they speak, they receive news that Himari and Moe were suddenly ambushed by an unreported Cave, and immediately set off to give them backup.
After Fukuyama Jeanne Sachie declares her intentions to form a new Legion, Raimu and Seren attempt to invite their classmates to join them, To which Tsugumi responds that she wants to consult with Kayo first. Karen and Mei are unsure if they would make useful additions to their Legion, but Tsugumi assures them that with their daily training, they'll surely become capable members.
When the Temple Legion is once again assembled to neutralize a Cave, Tsugumi finds Kayo conflicted, as her trust in the Garden had begun to erode after learning of their affiliation with GEHENA. Tsugumi tells her Schwester that she'll follow her wherever she goes, and while still unsure, Kayo decides to remain in the Temple Legion for the time being. Converging with Sachie's Legion, Ironside, the Temple Legion begins a Neunwelt Tactic while Ironside clears their path. However, they're unable to finish, as Moe is unable to properly handle the Magisphere, causing it to be lost. Depleted of Magie, Tsugumi steps back as the still capable Temple Legion members join Ironside in performing a second Neunwelt.
White Resistance ~The Blade of Truth~[edit | edit source]

Tsugumi joins the Temple Legion as they are deployed to neutralize a Gigant-class, but due to the formation of Legion Ironside, not enough Lilies in the Garden are powerful enough to integrate the Temple Legion. As such, they are joined by Instructor Sayoko in performing the Neunwelt Tactic.
Later, Tsugumi congratulates Mei in awakening to her Rare Skill, Zenon Paradoxa. Karen, on the other hand, continues to grow increasingly disheartened, as despite joining Legion Ironside, she feels that her lack of progress makes her a completely useless teammate to them. Karen wonders if it would be better for her to quit being a Lily altogether and instead become an Arsenal, but Tsugumi strongly rejects the idea, not wishing her longtime friend and sister in arms to throw everything away. Saddened, Tsugumi leaves in tears.
As the Temple Legion is dispatched for another battle, Tsugumi is unable to find Kayo, who was trapped fighting Instructor Sayoko together with Raimu and Seren. The Temple Legion meets with Ironside, and Himari orders Tsugumi to join Sachie, Yuria and Karen in searching for them while the remaining Lilies deal with the Gigant-class in the area. After Kayo, Raimu and Seren are rescued by Instructor Rina, they meet with Tsugumi's group, and immediately return to the other Lilies as they spot the Gigant-class Huge making an escape.
The two Legions once again reach the Gigant-class, immediately performing a second Neunwelt. But before they are able to finish it, they are ambushed by Instructors Sayoko and Toride Suzanne Reika, working under GEHENA's orders. The Instructors disable the protective barrier surrounding Ludvico, allowing the Huge to pour in large numbers and directly attack the Garden, and so, Tsugumi joins the Temple Legion (minus Himari and Nagisa) as they move out to defend the Lilies still in the Garden, together with Ironside members Takatori Natalie Towa and Li Christina Susu.
The Fateful Gift[edit | edit source]
Main article: Assault Lily: The Fateful Gift
After being continuously left disillusioned by Ludvico's inhumane practices at the instruction of GEHENA, Kayo eventually chooses to join Legion Ironside, with Tsugumi following suit. In the wake of the previous battle, Ludvico suffered severe casualties, with many of its Instructors losing their lives, as well as its facilities being heavily destroyed by the Huge. As such, the Garden completely ceased to function in any official capacity. Following the breakout of the Huge held as test subjects in GEHENA's Ludvico Labs, Legion Ironside is left as the only Legion capable of deployment, and as such they set out to curtail the advance of the large numbers of Huge permeating the Garden's territory, with Tsugumi replacing Kayo after she was forced to retreat from the front lines.
Receiving reports of a Gigant-class Huge in the area, Ironside joins the Funada Twins, from Odaiba Girls' School's Legion Hronesnæsse, as well as Herensuge Girls' Academy's Legion Hervör and Ludvico Lily Toda Eulalia Kotohi. They struggle to make their way to the Gigant-class as they are surrounded by Huge, many of them Irregulars, but eventually, Hervör's Sasaki Ran succeeds in destroying all the Huge after triggering a strange phenomenon by holding hands with Raimu. Attracted by the two Lilies' Magie, the multi-Legion group is once again surrounded by multiple Huge, which now includes a second Gigant-class.
Joined by Yurigaoka Girls' Academy's Team Hitotsuyanagi, the multi-Legion team agree to deal with the second Gigant-class, splitting themselves in two groups, each performing a Neunwelt in case the Huge possesses a Magie Reflector. However, they are soon met by a third Gigant-class, and with no other choice, the second team is forced to use their spare Magisphere. One of the Gigants is destroyed, but the other is able to absorb the Magisphere, which it attempts to use to kill Raimu and Ran.
Reunited, the Legions eventually surmise that, in order to destroy the final Gigant-class, they'll need to perform a Neunwelt with as many people as possible, however, as many of them were still depleted of their Magie, they agree on only 16 out of the 24 Lilies present to perform the final Neunwelt. As such, Tsugumi stands back, while Hervör's Hatsukano Yo, a fellow Brave user, takes her role of stabilizing the Funada Twins' Lunatic Trancer.
Combat Style[edit | edit source]
Tsugumi is usually very reserved when in the front lines, opting to support her Legion mates from the sidelines, and will most notably tightly hold her CHARM against her body when moving around in the battlefield. While she was a standout Lily during junior high, Tsugumi showed a lot less potential upon entering high school, and as such repeatedly cycled through the AZ, BZ and TZ positions, continuously trying to find her style.[1] This led her to become a highly versatile player, which coupled with her high sense for teamwork, makes her a valuable support when acting within a Legion. This level of versatility is greatly welcomed in her current primary position, BZ, as it is considered a staple of the Neunwelt Tactic's more modern iterations.[2]
