Taniguchi Hijiri

Taniguchi Hijiri (谷口聖) is a second year Lily who attends Yurigaoka Girls' Academy. She is a member of Legion Reginleif, and would very much like to tell you all about her darling Schild. Known for her easily approachable demeanor, Hijiri is called Yurigaoka's Girlfriend because she treats all her fellow Lilies like they've known each other forever.

Personality

Hijiri is amiable to everyone regardless of station. She doesn't care much for stuffy formality, yet navigates social situations with such intuitiveness that she can talk to nearly anyone and make them feel comfortable. This has earned her the nickname of "Yurigaoka's Girlfriend," since that's basically how it is.

However, anyone who knows her (or gives her even a moment's leeway) will know that she's also fiercely devoted to her Schild, Rokkaku Shiori. Hijiri will take up as much time as you allow her with stories of Shiori, delights in showing pictures of Shiori, and generally will make any conversation she's allowed to be about Shiori.

In truth however, much of this personality stems from bitter loss that Hijiri has suffered. She realizes that "now" is the only time she can be certain she can be the way she is, and so she lives for the now, letting neither the past haunt her nor the future worry her. So long as the now is comfortable, happy, and loving, then all is well.

History

When it came time to take entrance exams for elementary school, Hijiri's scholastic ability was already notably high, so much so that Hijiribashi University affiliate Garden offered her a slot which would be exempted from exams. She turned them down and instead went to Yurigaoka.

At present, Hijiri is known for being the greatest Phantasm user in all of history. She not only has the most accurate predictions of the future, but the scope to which she can predict is the largest, as well. Her style of Phantasm use is similar to Egawa Kusumi, being an "intuitive" style which projects the future in a "feeling" style as opposed to a tactical layout. For example, it allows passing a magiesphere during a Neunwelt Tactic without even looking, simply knowing where the other person is.

This power has earned Hijiri quite a bit of freedom in her life, but it hasn't prevented tragedy. She was part of the training camp being held at Yamanashi when the Koshu Withdrawal happened, and subsequently became a member of Legion Álfheimr (1st generation). That battle was brutal, with many lives lost, but the one that impacted Hijiri the most was the loss of Kawazoe Misuzu, the Schutzengel to Hijiri's then-roommate and also then-legionmate, Shirai Yuyu.

A year later, when the Second Defense of Oiso happened and Tsubaki Class from Yurigaoka were all but wiped out, Akashi Manaka instead went missing. As Hijiri and Manaka were close, close enough to be called partners, this event had a devastating effect on Hijiri's own mental state. With Yuyu also still unable to get over the loss of Misuzu, the two naturally drifted apart and were unable to continue living together. They both ended up in the special dorm in single units under the care of the Sisters of Lyfjaberg. This was notably after Alfheimr 1st had already broken up (which happened during the First Defense of Oiso).

It is currently unknown how Hijiri got back on her feet after this, but she and Rokkaku Shiori became Schutzengels right after Shiori entered high school.

Relationships

From Yurigaoka Girls' Academy:

• Rokkaku Shiori: They were friendly even while Shiori was in middle school, and Hijiri asked to be her Schutzengel shortly after Shiori entered high school.
• Niinomi Nodoka: Roommates. Nodoka is jealous of how Hijiri never seems to get fat.
• Akashi Manaka (missing): Close friends. Hijiri has stated that her goal as a Lily is to find Manaka.
• Shirai Yuyu: Hijiri and Yuyu were roommates in middle school and up through their first year in high school. They remain on good terms.
• Ishigami Mio: As both Phantasm-users, it's often said they're alike in their intuitiveness. However, the "take life as it comes" Hijiri and the "life is a series of setbacks" Mio have their differences for sure.
• Aoki Kaho: They fought over who got to make Shiori their Schild.
• Izumi Botan: Botan calls herself Hijiri's rival.
• Watanabe Akane: Friendly. They were both in Alfheimr 1st gen, and Hijiri often benefited from Akane's support in combat.
• Ban Kaya: On good terms. Kaya was Manaka's Schild candidate, so Hijiri looks after her.

From Odaiba Girls' School:

• Kawamura Yuzuriha: Friends. Fought together in the 1st Division at the Counteroffensive. When Yuzuriha attends Salon Hyacinth, Legion Lohengrin's tactics salon, she'll stay with other 1st Division Lilies, but usually with Hijiri.

From Irma Girls' High School for the Arts:

• Hibino Waku: Friends. 1st Division comrades. They're in touch even now, and get along famously.

From Ludvico Private Girls' Seminary:

• Fukuyama Jeanne Sachie: Friends. 1st Division comrades. Hijiri once recommended her to be scouted by Yurigaoka.
