Tsumaki Natsumi

Tsumaki Natsumi (妻木奈摘) is a second year Lily who attends Yurigaoka Girls' Academy. Her Schutzengel is Noda Ameri. Previously Natsumi was the president of the newspaper club and known for her dedication to journalism. Then, she stepped away from the club in order to become the head disciplinarian of Yurigaoka, succeeding Okada Kisara.

Personality

Natsumi is a highly educated individual, who has studied classical literature from an early age. She is also inquisitive while also being a stalwart advocate for the truth, as seen in her leading Yurigaoka's newspaper club through middle school and becoming its president in her first year of high school. In a way she could be considered akin to an old-style journalist. As she eventually went on to become Yurigaoka's head disciplinarian in her second year, Natsumi's sense of morals is quite strong.

Despite this, however, she has a strange quirk of being a little spacey or even airheaded at times. For example, she has been fooled by sample displays of food (as in, fakes) at the Garden cafeteria, saying, "O-Oh, so those aren't food? Aha, ahahaha...". Another time, a member of the newspaper club saw her peeling the nori seaweed off her senbei cracker. When asked why, she claimed it was delicious, so she was going to use it for musubi.

History

Though it hasn't been stated officially, Natsumi is likely Yurigaoka homegrown, meaning she started at Yurigaoka in kindergarten or early on in elementary. She's noted to have studied under Kojima Nadeshiko, meaning she likely attended Nadeshiko's "Salon Dianthus" to discuss classical Japanese and Chinese literature while Nadeshiko was still a teacher at Yurigaoka. Her nature then led her to join Yurigaoka's newspaper club in middle school, where she was a prominent figure, right up until she became its president in her first year of high school. This achievement was considered to be on par of Takegoshi Chihana becoming the Sigrun in her first year.

As is typical for the newspaper club, Natsumi did not join a legion all throughout her first year, instead acting entirely freelance. This is done to preserve the newspaper's image of fairness. She therefore deployed alongside many different legions, and also often joined up with Legion Sanngriðr during its formative era, contributing to it earning its SSS rating.

Also during her first year of high school, Yamamoto Kikyo transferred into Yurigaoka. As is custom for any Lily who joins Yurigaoka in middle school or later, Natsumi was assigned to be Kikyo's caretaker, helping her to get used to the school culture and acclimate to her surroundings. They got along very well, but Kikyo couldn't hack it at Yurigaoka and began to suffer mentally for it. In an attempt to get Kikyo to feel better, Natsumi suggested she take some classes at Tosei Preparatory School. This proved to be a mistake, as Kikyo, feeling the strain, was in a prime position to be sweet-talked by an (unnamed) Herensuge Lily she met while there to undergo boosting.

By that point Natsumi had printed numerous articles criticizing GEHENA, and she was convinced Kikyo had been tricked. Enraged, Natsumi began to dig into GEHENA, conducting a journalistic investigation and interrogating key figures. Before she could find anything however, GEHENA captured her and then subjected her to forced boosting experimentation via drugs. Natsumi only was freed from GEHENA due to timely intervention from Legion Rossweisse. She was taken to recover at the special dorms with the Sisters of Lyfjaberg.

Natsumi's suffering from the side-effects of boosting was primarily eased by Noda Ameri, whom Natsumi already had developed a friendship with when they fought together as freelancers for Sanngrithr. Though Natsumi still carried trauma from being kidnapped and tortured, she was only able to stand again thanks to Ameri. The two ultimately took the Schutzengel's Oath together.

Though Ameri was a member of Legion Ginnungagap and also Labyrinth, Natsumi chose not to join, despite still continuing as a freelancer. She did, however, become convinced of taking an anti-student council stance. Her opinions on the Ortlinde faction in particular (Hata Matsuri, et cetera) worsened, with Natsumi claiming they "lacked procedural legitimacy" (i.e., they didn't follow their own rules). Natsumi went on to become the head disciplinarian of Yurigaoka to obtain her own political power and oppose the student council in her own way.

Combat Style

Since early on, Natsumi trained herself to not rely on one side of her body, and this eventually developed into ambidexterity. She puts this on display by tossing her CHARM into the air in order to switch hands, which is her signature move.

Though her rare skill is Phantasm, Natsumi fights in the TZ, making her less of an attacker and more of a supporter and tactical style fighter. Combined with her high level of knowledge, which includes tactical knowledge, she has a singular fighting style unique to herself which is somewhere between a Phantasm-awakened and a Linker.

Her Odin's Eye aberration allows her to intuitively understand the mechanics behind any Huge special attack. On its own, this has little value, since for example it confers no ability to dodge from said attack. The Canceler function in her CHARM, however, makes full use of this ability to wipe magie effects from Huge near her. Even so, the trauma inflicted on her by her forced Boosting means she has yet to make use of the Canceler function in battle. (See: Sturm SC1.)

Relationships

From Yurigaoka Girls' Academy:

• Noda Ameri: Schutzengel. They grew close while fighting together during Sanngrithr's formative period, and ended up taking the Oath together. Ameri also supported Natsumi when she was suffering from the side effects of boosting. Their relationship is likened to that between Maki Wakana and Amano Soraha, where Ameri dotes on Natsumi.
• Takegoshi Chihana: Friends.
• Kondo Misaka: On good terms.
• Uchida Mayuri: Though their personalities are very different, they are both highly educated, and share the commonality of "not wanting to make waves" when it's something that should have waves made.
• Futagawa Fumi: Natsumi has in the past encouraged Fumi by acknowledging the both of them as journalists. Natsumi also reads all issues of Weekly Lily News, and finds it to be of exceptional value.
• Okada Kisara, Murakami Tokiwa, Tetsukawa Toa: Those who aid Natsumi when she's being particularly spacey.
• Takeda Mimi: At complete odds with each other; Natsumi has produced multiple articles criticizing Mimi.
• Natsumi has deep ties to the Sigrun faction of the Yurigaoka student council.

From Enoshima Maritime Girls' School:

• Yamamoto Kikyo: When Kikyo was at Yurigaoka, Natsumi was assigned as her caretaker. They got along well enough that before Kikyo transferred to Enoshima, they wanted to stay roommates "even after they moved up in grade." Even after the transfer, they remain in touch.

• Kojima Nadeshiko: Natsumi has an interest in ancient Japanese and Chinese literature and has ever since elementary, so she often studied under Nadeshiko.

• She is an intuitive-style Phantasm-awakened.
• Fumi has noted that, due to Natsumi's high level of refinement which is yet crossed with her spacey personality, she's quite similar to Kamigoori Marimo. This can be seen as humorous given Sasaki Yukari has played both characters on stage.
