Li Christina Susu

Li Christina Susu (李・クリスティーナ・思思) is a third year Lily who attends Ludvico Private Girls' Academy. She is a member of Legion Ironside, and a former member of the Garden's Top Legion, the Temple Legion, during the Duelist era, serving under the leadership of Kishimoto Maria Mirai. She is often together with Takatori Natalie Towa.

Personality

Susu is blunt and outspoken, never hesitating to voice her emotions in their rawest form. As such, Susu shows no restraint in expressing her dislike of others, and will often come out as sharp-tongued and rude. However, Susu's frankness also extends to her more vulnerable side, and as such, she will frequently be overtaken by feelings of anger or sadness. Because of this, she usually relies on the more level-headed Towa for emotional support.

Susu shows strong ties with her Chinese heritage. She holds a particular interest in traditional Chinese martial arts, and also incorporates elements of stereotypical Chinese fashion into her style. Susu speaks with a strong accent, and notably tends to end her sentences with the particle "aru" (アル).

History

At some point, Susu met and became close friends with Takatori Natalie Towa. While Towa was also a highly competent soldier, Susu in particular was a very skilled Duelist, as to her affinity for martial arts granted her a strong physical constitution. As such, they were eventually chosen to integrate Ludvico's Temple Legion, serving under the command of the prodigy Kishimoto Maria Mirai, as well as Nosaka Jacqueline Kazane. As the four of them grew to become very close, Mirai one day revealed to her Legion mates her desire to leave the Temple Legion and instead form a Legion of their own, hoping to one day be joined by her Schwester, Fukuyama Jeanne Sachie, her childhood friend, Amamiya Sophia Seren, and her younger sister, Kishimoto Lucia Raimu.

The Bond with the White Rose - First Half

Main article: Assault Lily: The Bond with the White Rose

When a Great Cave formed over Irma Girls' High School for the Arts' Kiyosumi-Shirakawa campus, the Temple Legion was dispatched to provide them with backup, as due to Irma's Top Legion, the Irminshines, not being present, their front lines consisted mostly of junior high and first-year Lilies, who had been driven to exhaustion by the time the Temple Legion arrived. As such, the Temple Legion, who were first years themselves at the time, took the lead in their counterattack, with Mirai, Kazane, Towa and Susu encouraging the junior Lilies to stand up and continue fighting for their Garden.

Though the Irma Lilies succeeded in destroying the Great Cave and driving away the remaining Huge thanks to the Temple Legion's help, Mirai was left particularly perturbed by the event, having witnessed so many young Lilies grieving the loss of their partners during the battle. And so, Mirai, Kazane, Towa and Susu made a pact among themselves, promising that if Ludvico ever suffers a similar attack, they should always prioritize saving the lives of the Garden's Lilies over saving the Garden itself.

The Makuhari Recapture

During their second year of high school, Susu, Towa Mirai and Kazane were among the Lilies elected to participate in the Makuhari Recapture, but while Mirai and Kazane participated in the preparations for the operation, the two of them would ultimately die in combat before the recapture properly began, leaving only Towa and Susu to participate in the ensuing battle.

White Resistance ~The Promise's Path~

Susu and Towa, now third year Lilies and no longer integrating the Temple Legion, learn from Sachie, Matsunaga Brigitta Kayo and Tachibana Theresia Nagisa that Mirai had been subjected twice to Boosting experiments after her apparent death prior to the Makuhari Recapture, which ultimately led her to her to completely lose her identity, mindlessly attack them before being killed by her own sister, Raimu. Susu is left particularly furious at the news.

Kayo suggests that Towa and Susu join them in training in order for them to rejoin the Temple Legion and keep close watch on GEHENA, but the third years refuse, as Towa argues that Temple Legion still acts on the Garden's orders, who were likely complicit with GEHENA in conducting experiments on Mirai. Instead, Towa proposes to Sachie that they form a completely independent Legion, telling her of how it had been a long held dream of Mirai's to form her own Legion with Sachie, Raimu and Seren, as well as Susu and herself. Sachie appears unsure, however, and Towa grants her time to think it over.

Ultimately, Sachie decides to move on with creating her own Legion after Ichinomiya Michaela Himari, the Temple Legion's current captain, is ambushed by a Cave created by GEHENA. Sachie talks with Susu and Towa, wondering if they could have Himari join their new Legion, but Towa is against it, arguing that as the captain of the Temple Legion, she's likely to suffer consequences if she attempts to rebel against the Garden. And so, they set off to recruit more members for their Legion, as they're currently short of the nine members required to perform the Neunwelt Tactic.

Legion Ironside is eventually joined by second year veteran Seto Veronica Ichika, who is soon followed by first year Saeki Julia Karen. Susu is particularly annoyed by Karen, deeming her as "completely useless" due to not yet having awakened her Rare Skill, but ultimately agrees on her joining the Legion, as they are desperate for new members. Ludvico receives reports of a Cave, and so, the new Legion assembles for their first deployment. Donning a unique jacket of their own, Sachie declares the name of their Legion as "Ironside". As they're still unable to perform the Neunwelt Tactic, however, Legion Ironside takes to keeping the surrounding Huge at bay while the Temple Legion performs their Neunwelt.

The Temple Legion's Neunwelt ultimately fails halfway through, causing half of its members to be depleted of their Magie. With Kuroki Francisca Yuria joining Legion Ironside, they perform their own Neunwelt, joined by the Temple Legion members with Magie still remaining, successfully managing to destroy the Huge.

White Resistance ~The Blade of Truth~

Legion Ironside remains active despite not being recognized by the Garden, deploying together with the Temple Legion while acting independently. However, due to Yuria abandoning the Temple Legion to join Ironside, neither Legion possesses the nine members required to perform the Neunwelt Tactic. And so, when faced with a Gigant-class Huge, Legion Ironside once again tasks themselves with clearing the battlefield, while the Temple Legion relies on the aid of Instructor Makabe Melania Sayoko in order to defeat the Gigant-class.

During this time, Susu continued to look down on Karen, frequently mocking her for her inability to fight, while being simultaneously annoyed at her uselessness as a Legion member. This contributed to Karen growing increasingly self-conscious, as she was among the few first-year Lilies yet to awaken her Rare Skill.

When Raimu and Seren return to the Kishimoto family's house in order to investigate Professor Kishimoto's old belongings, hoping to find any clues of his possible involvement in the murder of Seren's mother, they are suddenly targeted by a Cave created by GEHENA. In the meantime, the remaining members are prevented from reaching them due to being stuck fighting the large swaths of Small and Mid-class Huge pouring out of the Cave. Ironside is eventually able to meet with the Temple Legion members, who agree to hold off the Huge while they set off to find Raimu and Seren. With their aid, Legion Ironside succeeds in reaching the two first-years, rescuing them from a pair of Large-class Huge.

GEHENA sends out a Gigant-class Huge in course to Ludvico at the same time that Raimu, Seren and Kayo are attacked by Instructor Sayoko within the Garden. And so, Himari orders Sachie, Yuria, Karen and Hasegawa Gabriella Tsugumi to leave to their rescue, while the remaining Lilies of each Legion perform the Neunwelt Tactic as a single team. However, their Neunwelt is interrupted by the appearance of a resurrected Kazane, who steals the Magisphere and fires it against the Lilies, while the Gigant-class begins to flee. Ichika and Nagisa choose to stay behind and fight Kazane, while the remaining Lilies set off in pursuit of the Gigant-class.

The double-Legion team reunites with Sachie's, who succeeded in retrieving Raimu, Seren and Kayo. Towa tells Sachie of how they encountered Kazane, concluding that she had been subjected to the same experiments as Mirai after her death. While Sachie is heartbroken at the news, Towa urges her to focus on defeating the Gigant-class so they can return to Ichika and Nagisa's aid. The Lilies then work to hold their ground against the surrounding Huge while Sano Matilda Kokoro returns to the Garden campus to retrieve another Neunwelt bullet, and during this battle, Karen awakens to the Rare Skill Regista.

Kokoro quickly returns, and the two Legions begin a second Neunwelt. Karen and Hojo Monica Asahi are dispatched to find Ichika and Nagisa after making their passes, but the Legions are unable to take the finishing shot as the Gigant-class flees once more. They are cornered by Instructors Sayoko and Toride Suzanne Reika, acting on behalf of GEHENA, and after the Lilies refuse to comply with their demands, the Instructors disable the protective barrier surrounding Ludvico. Immediately after, a Great Cave forms over the Garden, and as the Huge pour out in large numbers and attack Ludvico's facilities, Susu and Towa join the Temple Legion in returning to Ludvico in order to rescue the Garden's Lilies, while the remaining Legion Ironside members stay behind to fight the two Instructors.

The Bond with the White Rose - Second Half

In the ensuing battle, Susu and Towa end up separated from the Temple Legion members while fighting on Ludvico's campus. Due to the high concentration of Negative Magie in the area, their communication devices cease to work, and so, the pair continue to fight by themselves, hoping to secure a safe evacuation path to Ludvico's Lilies amidst the multiple Irregular Huge that escaped from GEHENA's Ludvico Labs.

Susu and Towa are eventually met by an Irregular Gigant-class, and without any other Lilies present to perform the Neunwelt Tactic, they instead agree to draw the Huge away from Ludvico's facilities. However, the pair are nearly depleted of their Magie due to the incessant battles they faced, and after Susu injures herself, Towa proposes that they instead retreat for the time being. Susu is strongly against the idea, imploring to Towa that they stay, but Towa insists that they must survive in order to continue fighting for Ludvico.

Susu ultimately gives in, and the two begin to make their way out of the Gigant-class' sight, still fighting against the surrounding Huge as they move. However, due to their exhaustion, they are ultimately knocked down before they can leave, resigning themselves to their fate before being shortly rescued by Irma's Legion Irminshines. The Irma Legion takes over in fighting against the Gigant-class, allowing Towa and Susu to temporarily fall back in order to replenish their Magie.

Concluding that the Gigant-class possesses the Dominator Skill, the Lilies predict they'll need to perform two Neunwelts to defeat it. They are soon met by Irma's Legion Hakolberand, accompanied by Karen, Asahi, Narumi Clara Yuko and Hanaoka Angela Moe. Towa insists that the Ludvico Lilies take the lead in the first Neunwelt, but as they are still short of nine members, they are supplanted by Irminshines members Nishikawa Miharu, Nakabayashi Kaina, Miyamoto Komuku, Tejima Komachi and the Kusakabe Twins.

Miharu suggests that Towa serve as their tactician, but she refuses, instead proposing that Karen take the role, due to possessing the Rare Skill Regista. Karen, however, is very reluctant to take a leadership role over the many high profile Lilies of Irminshines, and the other Ludvico Lilies encourage her, with Susu remarking that, despite her many shortcomings, Karen is still "a good fellow", urging her to believe in her abilities. Karen eventually agrees, and they proceed with performing the Neunwelt, ultimately succeeding in disabling the Gigant-class' Dominator Skill. This allows Legion Hakolberand and remaining Irminshines Lilies, to successfully destroy the Huge.

Despite defeating the Gigant-class, the Great Cave looming over Ludvico still remains, and the Lilies are soon ambushed by its master, the burrowing Huge Sennen Mogura, the same type as the one which caused the Kiyosumi-Shirakawa campus invasion. After learning that the Sennen Mogura's paralyzing breath possesses a cooldown time, the Lilies devise a plan to force the Huge into using it so that it may be temporarily disabled. The first years of each Legion act as the lure, while the second and third years perform the Neunwelt Tactic in order to defeat it, but though their plan proceeds accordingly, they are unable to create a powerful enough Magisphere due to their exhaustion from the previous battles. Ludvico's first years ask that they join in as well, and Towa, recalling her and Susu's promise to Mirai, also asks Miharu that they continue.

Together, the six Ludvico Lilies pour all of their remaining Magie into the Magisphere, while the Irminshines and Hakolberand Lilies attempt to wear down the Sennen Mogura. They are soon overpowered by the Huge, however, with Towa being knocked down after failing to use the local Magie Intensity to boost the Magisphere's power. As the Sennen Mogura approaches the Lilies, it is stopped by Himari, who was able to reach Ludvico's premises after her battle with Kosaka Anastasia Ryoko. Together with Miharu, Komachi and Hibino Waku, Himari completes the Magisphere, and finally succeeds in killing the Sennen Mogura, causing the Cave looming over Ludvico to be destroyed.

Though their efforts succeeded in securing the evacuation of Ludvico's Lilies, the Garden facilities were left completely in ruins, causing Ludvico to lose all functionality as a Garden. The first years are heartbroken at the destruction of their Garden, but Towa and Susu are content, as they were able to keep their promise to Mirai and Kazane. With the Irregular Huge held in Ludvico Labs still roaming the Garden's vicinity, and the Temple Legion no longer existing in any official capacity, the Ludvico Lilies are ordered to aid the Legions sent out by other Gardens to cover Ludvico's territory while the Garden remains inoperative.

Trivia

• Susu's confirmation name, Christina, could reference one of three Catholic Saints who bear the name "Saint Christina", these are: Christina of Tyre, Christina of Persia and Christina the Astonishing.
• Susu's Medalha bears the commonly used "double happiness" Chinese character (囍), and is fashioned to resemble traditional Chinese seals. The character was also used for Susu's performance during the Neunwelt Tactic in White Resistance ~The Blade of Truth~
• In White Resistance ~The Promise's Path~, Susu's Magie was represented as a yellow dragon engulfed in flames. In Chinese folklore, the Yellow Emperor Huangdi was a mythical ruler, to whom many aspects of traditional Chinese culture are attributed to. Upon his death, he was said to have taken the form of a Yellow Dragon, named Huánglong, in order to ascend to Tian.
