Suzuki Chinami

From Assault Lily Wiki

Suzuki Chinami (鈴木因) is a first-year Lily who attends Odaiba Girls' School. She is a member of Legion Heorot Saints. Chinami is a recurring character in the Odaiba series of stage plays, often appearing together with Kawanabe Nazuna and Takehisa Nakaba.

Personality

[edit | edit source]

Chinami is very cheerful and energetic, with these traits being even further emphasized whenever she is in the presence of the second year Hishida Haru, whom she is deeply infatuated with. Yearning for Haru's attention, Chinami will constantly follow her around and take every opportunity to be together with her, having once claimed that Haru "will be much better off with me by your side!".[1] However, because Haru will more often often dote on Nazuna instead, Chinami will engage in frequent spats with her over Haru's attention.[2]

Chinami is notably prone to jealousy, and is described as a tsundere.[3] Beyond their friction over Haru, Chinami also envies Nazuna for her speed-oriented fighting style, as she aspired to become a speed-focused Lily herself despite not being fast enough for it.[4][5] However, the pair nonetheless remains good friends, and Chinami shows genuine care for Nazuna, though she struggles to admit it upfront.[6][7] Because of this attitude, Chinami is often teased by her Legion mates.[8][9]

Contrasting her usual sunny personality, Chinami is very conscious of her shortcomings, and is easily upset by her failures in battle, eagerly seeking to compensate for them whenever the opportunity arises. Chinami will be particularly disheartened when her flaws prevent her from helping her allies, and is very quick to apologize whenever she sees herself as not being useful to them, even when the circumstacnes she is faced with are completely beyond her control.

History

[edit | edit source]

Chinami was a student of Odaiba Girls' School since at least junior high. During this period, she met and befriended Otake Sunao, and the pair became very close friends.[10] At an unknown point in time, Chinami became friends with Takehisa Nakaba and Kawanabe Nazuna, with her and Nazuna often training together.[7]

The Odaiba Counteroffensive

During their third year of junior high, Chinami and Sunao were among the Lilies present in Odaiba when the Nestless Ultra appeared. Though the pair found themselves stranded in Wakasu during the Soldier Ants' rampage, they were able to survive by shutting themselves inside one of Odaiba Girls' School's Arsenal development installations present in the area.[11][12]

After the Counteroffensive.

[edit | edit source]

Upon entering her first year of high school, Chinami awakened her Rare Skill, Charisma.[4] She, Sunao, Nazuna and Nakaba would later be selected to join the Heorot Saints.

Chinami and the Heorot Saints, as well as the newly formed Legion Hronesnæsse, departed to an Expedition to Niigata, Japan, following a request by Amatsu Marei that they aid Legion Álfheimr and Ryuto Girls' Academy in taking down the Fafnir, one of the Seven Great Ultra-class Huge which had made its Nest in Niigata in the year following the Odaiba Counteroffensive. The Saints and Hronesnæsse initially arrived at the neighbouring prefecture of Tochigi, where Ryuto's Legion Kólga was locked in combat against a horde of Huge that suddenly emerged from Lake Chuzenji.

After rescuing Legion Kólga, the Heorot Saints were tasked with accompanying Legion Dúfa in retaking Niigata's harbour from the Huge's control, as Ryuto hoped to have a clear path towards Niigata's Sado Island, where the Fafnir was located. As they fought the Huge prowling the port, they encountered the two-headed Gigant-class Orthus, and the two Legions agree to each perform a Neunwelt Tactic in order to destroy both of the Gigant's heads. Meanwhile, Legion Hronesnæsse had joined Legion Kólga in returning to Lake Chuzenji, where they learned that the master of the Nest in the Lake, the Gigant-class Cihuateteo, had since evolved into an Ultra-class, forcing them to retreat.

Now with two Ultra-class Huge to contend with, the Lilies devised the strategy called "Mission Drachentöter", which entailed separating their forces into two teams, as they ascertained that the Fafnir and the Cihuateteo would eventually converge, hence requiring them to be neutralized simultaneously. And so, with Legion Álfheimr and the leaders of Ryuto's Legions of the Nine continuing with their operation to neutralize the Fafnir, The Heorot Saints and Hronesnæsse were tasked with defeating the Cihuateteo together.

The Singular Ability

Main article: Assault Lily: The Singular Ability

While Legion Hronesnæsse is assigned with neutralizing a Cave in Odaiba, the Heorot Saints undertake an Expedition to Makuhari, in Chiba. However, in the absence of Hronesnæsse's aces Funada Kiito, Funada Ui and Shiba Tomoshibi, Saints captain Tsukioka Momiji orders Haru, Nazuna and Yokoyama Azusa to remain in Tokyo in order to assist them in their mission. Chinami, unhappy that Nazuna would be accompanying Haru, requests that she also stay behind, and as the Saints' trio moves to join Hronesnæsse, she begins tailing them. Chinami reaches her Saints teammates shortly after they meet with Hronesnæsse, quickly showing her dissaproval of Haru's friendliness towards Nazuna, as well as Imamura Yukari.

After learning from Yukari that another Cave in Shin-kiba had gone undetected, the two Legions quickly set out to neutralize it before it can grow. While on their way, they are able to regroup with Kiito, Ui, Tomoshibi and Kawamura Yuzuriha as they return from their Expedition. Ui notes that several of the Huge they encountered on their way back were similar to the Irregular types that escaped from Ludvico Private Girls' Seminary's GEHENA laboratory, leading the Lilies to conclude that the Caves they've encountered are possibly a product of one of GEHENA's experiments. Suddenly, the two Legions encounter a Gigant-class Huge, and they soon note it to be similar to the one Haru encountered a year prior during the Odaiba Counteroffensive, in a battle that ultimately led her to destroy Odaiba's Fujimi bridge, ultimately leaving all the civilians and junior Lilies who were yet to cross the bridge completely trapped with the Huge.

Haru, reliving her traumatic memories, sets off after the Gigant-class, with the Saints and Hronesnæsse following in pursuit. The enraged Haru continues to relentlessly fight her way through the horde of Huge, and in her unstable state of mind, she unleashes her Aberration, Divine Possession. Worried, Chinami attempts to use her Charisma to stabilize her, but just as she activates her Skill, she is hit directly by one of the Huge. Though Chinami is uninjured, she notices that she can no longer produce any Magie, and can no longer lift up her CHARM. Haru, having since returned to normal, notices that her CHARM was damaged in her rampage, and so, she and Chinami retreat from the battlefield together, much to Chinami's excitement

Haru and Chinami return to Odaiba's medical bay, where they meet Doctor Nakahara Mary Tomoyo. Examining Chinami's condition, Tomoyo diagnoses that she had her Magie output blocked by the Huge's attack, and instructs her to rest in one of the med bay's capsules, encouraging Haru to join her while she works on reparing her CHARM. Chinami recovers completely not long after, but as Tomoyo is yet to finish her repairs on Haru's CHARM, she provides her a temporary replacement, the Galateia.

Chinami and Haru rejoin the Saints and Hronesnæsse just as the two Legions succeed in tracking down the Gigant-class, which had since been identified as a variant of the Gravity Manipulator, one of the Irregular Gigant-class Huge that were present in the Odaiba Counteroffensive. With all members of both Legions present, they promptly begin a Neunwelt Tactic, and while making her passes, Chinami struggles to keep pace with Laplace user Tomoshibi. The Magisphere eventually makes it to Haru, and upon receiving it, she once again begins to break down as she recalls how Nazuna and Yukari were among the Lilies left trapped with the Huge after she chose to destroy Fujimi bridge. Though Haru attemps to continue fighting regardless, she very suddenly loses control of herself, once again unleashing her Divine Possession and setting off in a rampage.

Kiito and Ui chase after Haru, leaving the Saints and the remaining Hronesnæsse members to continue the Neunwelt Tactic in the meantime. Chinami is once again barely able to keep up with Tomoshibi, and after the latter is severely injured after shielding Nazuna from a stray attack, a disconcerted Chinami assures her that she will do her very best in her absense, as Tomoshibi retreats to the medical bay. The Lilies resume their Neunwelt, but Chinami struggles to properly counterract the effects of the Gravity Manipulator to the same degree that Tomoshibi was able to, leaving all the Lilies present greatly exhausted.

Nazuna, distraught by how severely Tomoshibi injured herself protecing her, attempts to continue fighting regardless, eager to prove herself. Chinami joins her, similarly saddened by not being able to perform as well as Tomoshibi. The pair continues to fight their hardest, with Chinami constantly using her Charisma to replenish Nazuna's Magie. Eventually, Chinami drops her CHARM after deflecting an attack directed at Nazuna, and as she notices another incoming attack, Chinami instead attempts to shield Nazuna with her own body. As she does so, Chinami suddenly emits a burst of Magie, which deflects the attack completely. The other Lilies note that their Magie is also being replenished, and Tomoshibi, returning to the battlefield, explains that Chinami's Charisma had evolved into Laplace, as her exposure to Tomoshibi's own Laplace helped it evolve. With their Magie reserves once again full, the Saints and Hronesnæsse resume their Neunwelt, and finally, Yukari receives the final pass and makes a successful finishing shot.

In the aftermath of the battle, Chinami and the other Saints members visit Haru in the medical bay after she had been successfully subdued by the Funada Twins, with Chinami excitedly telling Haru of how she had awakened to Laplace before, and eager to break the news to Momiji once she returns.

The Empathy Phenomenon

[edit | edit source]

Main article: Assault Lily: The Empathy Phenomenon

The Heorot Saints deploy to neutralize one of the several Caves that recently formed across Tokyo, and during their mission, they encounter a Gigant-class Huge. As they perform the Neunwelt Tactic, Chinami struggles with using her newly awakened Laplace to properly support their Lunatic Trancer user, Saigo Kurena, very quickly becoming exhausted. Though Chinami blames her fatigue on her own ineptitude at utilizing her newly awakened Rare Skill, the other Saints members instead surmise it to be the result of the Gigant-class possessing the Dominator Skill, which allows it to convert the ambient Magie into Negative Magie.

Because of the high concentration of Negative Magie, Kurena completely loses control of herself, attacking the other Saints members in a fit of rage. And so, while Momiji, Nazuna, Nakaba and Hayami Katsura continue the Neunwelt, the remaining Saints members attempt to subdue Kurena. Though still exhausted, Chinami tries to help them, but before she is able to, Hirose Minato and Kishida Hanabusa of Odaiba's Legion Coast Guard arrive, and Minato uses her Valkyrian Skirt Magie Reincarnation System to purify Kurena of Negative Magie, bringing her under control. While the Coast Guard pair takes Kurena away from the battlefield, the Saints members move to regroup with Momiji, though they only arrive in time to witness Kiito failing to finish off the Dominator Huge, ultimately allowing it to escape.

In the aftermath, Chinami attends the second years' mission review session held by Igusa Subaru. Already depressed due to her failure to properly support Kurena, Chinami is further disheartened after learning that the Gigant-class' Dominator ability renders her Laplace largely ineffective by nature. As the Lilies analyze the Dominator's traits, they conclude that Kurena's rampage was caused by her particular susceptibility to the effects of Negative Magie, being both a Boosted Lily and a Lunatic Trancer user. Kurena herself is absent from the meeting, and the Saints members reveal that the experience of attacking her own teammates left her incredibly depressed, and that she refused to join them in training ever since.

At a later point, the Saints hold a training session, and Chinami is determined to gain better control over her Laplace, in hopes that it will allow Kurena — who had been temporarily placed in Hronesnæsse to help her recover— to use her Lunatic Trancer without any fears once she returns.

Following the detection of another Cave, the Heorot Saints, Hronesnæsse, Minato and Hanabusa deploy together to neutralize it. Upon arriving, they encounter the Gigant-class Gigafloat, which possesses an energy shield that renders it invulnerable to regular attacks. As such, the two Legions decide to each perform a Neunwelt Tactic, with the Saints using their Magisphere to destroy the Gigafloat's energy shield while Hronesnæsse uses theirs to destroy its core. As their operation progresses, Nazuna, Sunao, Yukari and Kozue West are tasked of holding off the Gigafloat's light tentacles while the other Lilies make her passes. Inspired after watching the other first years fight, Chinami attempts to activate her Laplace, but finds herself unable to.

The Lilies notice that the Gigafloat is permeating the area with Negative Magie, and as Tomoshibi uses her own Laplace to counterract it, she berates Chinami, claiming it to be her fault that Kurena had since become overreliant on Kiito. Hayami Katsura interjects on Chinami's behalf, noting that Tomoshibi is acting out of the ordinary. Despite Tomoshibi and Chinami both repeatedly using their Laplace to curb the effects of the surrounding Negative Magie, the effect is still potent enough to affect Kurena and Maruyama Amane. The two Legions continue making their passes, but they also continue to struggle with the Gigafloat's light tentacles, and eventually, the Gigant-class is able to take Momiji and Yuzuriha captive, bringing the pair inside its shield.

Because Momiji had the Saints' Magisphere, the Lilies decide to instead use Hronesnæsse's Sphere to destroy the it in hopes of retrieving the pair, but with Momiji and Yuzuriha, as well as Kiito and Kurena absent, the Lilies are forced to make their passes closer to the Huge so that its Magie Intensity produces a powerful enough Magisphere to destroy the shield. And so, in spite of the high concentration of ambient Negative Magie, the Lilies eventually complete the Magisphere and destroy the Gigafloat's shield, allowing Momiji and Yuzuriha to escape. With the second Magisphere retrieved, the two Legions resume making their passes until Kiito, Kurena and Ui return. The trio is joined by Chinami and Tomoshibi, as well as Brave users Sunao and Nagasawa Yuki in making the final passes, and after quickly completing the Magisphere, Kiito and Ui take the finishing shot together, successfully destroying the Gigafloat.

The Battle to Overcome

[edit | edit source]

Main article: Assault Lily: The Battle to Overcome

During a joint mission by the Heorot Saints and Hronesnæsse, the two Legions note that the horde of Huge they're fighting against has several Soldier Ants among them. Kiito recognizes them as the very same species as the one they encountered two years ago, during the final battle of her junior high team, the Funada Reserve Corps. After the battle concludes, the first years hold a tea party, where they're told the events of that battle by Yuki. In learning of the Funada Reserve Corps' past, the first years muse over what would have happened had they never disbanded.

The Soldier Ants are later detected at Odaiba's Wakasu Park, and so, the Saints and Hronesnæsse swiftly deploy to intercept them. Shortly upon their arrival, they are joined by Kon Kanaho and Miyagawa Takane, both former members of the Reserve Corps who have since transferred to Kamba Girls' High School for the Fine Arts. The two Legions are immediately met by a Gigant-class Soldier Ant just as Odaiba's Light Walls are placed in full admission mode, and Kiito, hoping to settle their score with those Huge, proposes that instead of fighting as different Legions, they reassemble as the Reserve Corps for the final time. With all former members in agreement, the Reserve Corps takes charge of defeating the Gigant Soldier Ant, while the remaining Lilies fight off the remaining swarm of Huge.

Chinami, Nakaba and Nazuna watch as the Reserve Corps members make their passes, and while Nakaba and Chinami are in awe of their performance, Nazuna appears more absentminded. Nazuna tells the two that learning of her seniors' past led her to remember her own, reminiscing over her days of homelessness, as well as the intimate friendship she developed with Nakaba after enrolling in Odaiba. Hearing of Nazuna and Nakaba's time together, Chinami notes how she and Nazuna would also often practice together, appearing unusually flustered, and Nakaba points out that Chinami seems to "like Nazuna quite a bit."

The Reserve Corps' regroup as their Neunwelt nears its conclusion, but just as they do, they watch as the Gigant-class devours Odaiba Instructor Inaba Mayumi. As she appeared to allow herself to be consumed by the Huge, the Lilies presume her to be the one responsible for the current Soldier Ant outbreak, noting how Huge will sometimes eat their own in order to further boost their abilities. Suddenly, Mayumi speaks with the Lilies telepathically, her consciousness having merged with the Huge.

After a brief conversation, Mayumi's voice begins to break down, and the telepathic link suddenly breaks, leading the Lilies to conclude that the Gigant-class ultimately rejected her consciousness. With little else to do, the Reserve Corps resumes their Neunwelt while the other Lilies return to acting as their support, and they eventually succeed in killing the Gigant-class Soldier Ant. But as its accompanying swarm still remains, Kiito orders all the other Lilies to keep them at bay while her and Kiito move to destroy their Nest before the Light Walls' full admission mode reaches its time limit.

The Snowdrop

[edit | edit source]

Main article: Assault Lily: The Snowdrop

Following another successful joint mission by the Saints and Hronesnæsse, the first year Lily Komai Sumire transfers into Odaiba Girls' School from Ambrosia Ladies' Institute of Secondary Education, being placed in Legion Hronesnæsse as a temporary member. The Saints' and Hronesnæsse hold another tea party to welcome her, but unbeknownst to the others, Nakaba and Katsura had been tasked with extracting information from her by Momiji, who suspected Sumire's decision to transfer into Odaiba from a Garden of such high prestige as Ambrosia.

Their conversation eventually derails as Sumire expresses her curiosity in learning more about Legion Hronesnæsse's past, which the other first years indulge. Their conversation eventually turns to Odaiba's Blood Oath, and both Nazuna and Chinami express their desire to take the oath with Haru, prompting another spat between the pair. As the school bell rings, the tea party ends before Katsura and Nakaba can extract any pertinent information from Sumire, much to the disappointment of Momiji and the Saints' second years.

Later, the Heorot Saints and Hronesnæsse deploy together once again following the appearance of a Great Cave, and they are soon informed by Instructor Akira Blanton that the host of this Cave is the Cihuateteo, which was able to survive their previous encounter with it in Tochigi after consuming the core of the Huge known as Giant Zombie, consequently granting its Undead ability to every Huge spawned by the Cave. Seeking to avoid needlessly exhausting themselves by fighting the entire Horde, Kiito and Momiji agree to have their Legions rush straight towards the Cihuateteo and its immediate convoy.

The Lilies depart, with a strategy consisting of closing in on the Cihuateteo in pairs. Nazuna and Chinami once again bicker between themselves over which one gets to pair up with Haru before being stopped by Azusa, who proposes that both of them tag along with Haru as she'll also be joining them, technically making two pairs. Though Nazuna and Chinami are content with the solution, Haru remains flustered, unable to keep up with the pair's pace. The Lilies eventually regroup after successfully making past the horde of Huge, but Sumire and Tomoshibi are yet to arrive. Akira instructs the two Legions to perform a double Neunwelt Tactic, as the two Magispheres would cause enough damage to expose the Giant Zombie's core, which she would personally destroy. However, because the Cihuateteo possesses tentacles that can sap the Lilies of their Magie, they agree to carry out their Neunwelt further away and out of its reach.

The Saints and Hronesnæsse reassemble after successfully building up their Magispheres, but as they would now need to approach the Cihuateteo in order to make the final passes, they split the task of neutralizing its tentacles between the members of their two Legions. As Tomoshibi has still not returned, the Lilies manly rely on Chinami's Laplace in order to withstand the high concentration of Negative Magie, and though incredibly exhausted at this point, the Saints succeed in completing their Magisphere while fending off the tentacles, and Tomoshibi and Sumire return just in time to allow Hronesnæsse to complete theirs, allowing Kiito and Momiji to finally fire them against the Cihuateteo. The resulting explosion exposes its core as predicted, and Akira successfully destroys it.

Chapter Five

[edit | edit source]

Main article: Valkyries, Reunited by Fate

After Legion Sanngriðr and the Oshima Nest Survey Team successfully dispelled the Death Zone that permeated across the Izu Oshima island, several of Kanto's Gardens assembled a second task force, named "Oshima Nest Extermination Team", in order to destroy the Nests surrounding the island's perimeter, and among the Legions that integrated it was Legion Heorot Saints, which was tasked with neutralizing the Nest present in the Sagami seas. Haru, Chinami and Nazuna were dispatched early in order to scout the area, soon returning to meet Momiji, Yuzuriha and Kurena, who had since joined Legion Hronesnæsse, as well as Kamba's Legion Gran Eple, in fighting the Huge in the area, which included Soldier Ants.

Though Haru was unable to find the Gigant-class controlling the Nest, she points out the unusual presence of a air carrier in the ocean nearby. As they fend off the Soldier Ants, Gran Eple's Tamba Akari, who possesses an Aberration that allows her to see the colors of Magie, notes that the ship emanates "nasty, scary colors". With the Ants' numbers continuing to increase, the Lilies split themselves in two teams, with Haru, Kiito, Ui, Kanaho and Takane, as well as Homma Akehi and Shiozaki Suzume moving ahead to investigate the vessel, while the remaining Lilies continue to hold off against the Huge outside.

As the Saints, Hronesnæsse and Gran Eple continue fighting the Huge's swarm, Ishizuka Fujino notices that they appear unusually intent on protecting the ship. After Yokota Haruna deliberately fires directly at the ship, it begins to move, leading the Lilies to conclude that the Gigant-class they are looking for has assimilated the vessel itself onto its body. Having found the Soldier Ants' queen within the ship's enclosure, Kiito requests that the outside team keep the Gigant-class, nicknamed "Mary Celeste", restrained until they can exit it.

Kurena and Suzume eventually force the Soldier Ants' queen out of the Mary Celeste, leaving the Lilies on the outside to finish it off while the inside team takes down the Gigant-class with the Neunwelt Tactic. Both teams succeed in taking down their respective opponents, and with the Sagami Nest neutralized, they moved ahead to join Yurigaoka's Team Hitotsuyanagi and Legion Álfheimr in neutralizing the northernmost S-Rank undersea Nest still remaining in Izu Oshima, eventually leading them to confront the Ultra Class Huge Azhi Dahaka

Combat Style

[edit | edit source]

Chinami's most notable feature is her remarkable physical strength, which is described as herculean even by Odaiba Girls' School's standards.[13] As such, her fighting style is primarily centered around displays of raw, overwhelming power, with singular, heavy blows being a specialty of hers.[14][15] However, as a trade-off, she is not particularly fast.[4] Chinami is a remarkably skilled Duelist,[16] and has even gained notoriety for once firing a Neunwelt's finishing shot while in the midst of fighting a group of Small-class Huge.[17] She is noted to possess defensive capabilities comparable to those of Boosted Lilies as a product of her remarkably potent defensive barriers.[16]

During the Neunwelt Tactic, she will most often exchange passes with Nazuna,[18] and will primarily work to set up passes from her position in the TZ together with Kurena and Katsura. As such, she is considered a live marking as to where the Saints' formation switches from defense to offense.[16]

Owning to her incredible physical strength, Chinami will frequently engage Small-type Huge without her CHARM, be it by grabbing and hurling them with her bare hands, or by kicking them.[19]

Toyline

[edit | edit source]

Chinami's action doll, titled "Assault Lily Series No.72: Suzuki Chinami", was released in January 2024. Utilizing the Pico Neemo R's Type G doll body, it included four swappable faceplates and her unique variation of the Odaiba Girls' School uniform.[20]

Chinami's CHARM, the Kuruzzi, was not included with her doll, having been previously sold as a separate item as part of the "Assault Lily ARMS collection." It was released on August 2019.[21]

Trivia
